TikTok’s official LIVE guidance supports asking viewers questions, but does not document a native poll workflow, so check your current LIVE controls before promising an in-app poll.
Choose the poll method for your platform

Run a poll on Twitch
Twitch Help says, “The ability to create Polls is exclusive to monetized streamers.” If your channel has access, you can create a poll from the Dashboard or Creator Dashboard.
Start and manage the poll in the Dashboard
- Open the Twitch Dashboard. For your first poll, select Create a New Poll; for a later poll, select New Poll.
- In the new Creator Dashboard, add the Manage your poll quick action under Grow Your Community, if it is not already available. Then choose Manage Poll and New Poll.
- Enter the question as the title and add two to five choices. Keep the title within 60 characters and each choice within 25 characters.
- Set the duration before starting. If you enable Channel Points for additional votes, tell viewers before they vote that the extra votes cost points and spent points are non-refundable.
- Select Start Poll. Watch results in the poll panel and end the poll there when you are ready, or let its set duration finish.
Use chat commands or an on-stream overlay
A channel moderator or editor can create and manage a poll with /poll. Use /endpoll to end it or /deletepoll to delete it. Twitch’s finished-poll breakdown includes the final results and number of voters.
To show a poll graphic in your stream scene, add a browser source and use Twitch’s documented URL pattern https://www.twitch.tv/popout/yourusername/poll, replacing yourusername with your channel username.

Run a poll on YouTube
Create and close a live-chat poll
- During a live stream or Premiere, open the live chat window.
- At the bottom of chat, select Create a poll, enter the question and two to four answer options, then create the poll.
- To stop voting and see the results, select End poll in the banner at the top of chat.
Viewers cannot change a vote once they have cast it. A poll can remain open for up to 24 hours, but choose a shorter duration if that suits the pace of your segment. Live polls do not appear in live chat replays, so tell viewers who may watch the replay where you will share the outcome.
Mobile streams
YouTube also documents live poll stickers for mobile streaming. This is a separate interface path from creating a poll in the live chat window; use the controls for the setup you are streaming from.

Handle polls on TikTok LIVE carefully
TikTok’s LIVE Studio Help guidance recommends asking viewers about their day, their opinions, or the game being played, and greeting or acknowledging viewers. It does not establish a native poll feature, eligibility rules, or creation steps. Check the current LIVE interface for your account rather than assuming a poll control is available.
If you do not see one, ask a clear question and invite replies in chat—for example, “Type A for the first choice or B for the second.” Explain how you will count responses, then acknowledge the result. This is a chat-response method, not a platform poll.

Write a question viewers can answer quickly
- Ask one specific question. Make clear what the choice will affect, such as “Which topic should we cover next?” or “Which route should I take?”
- Keep labels concise. Twitch limits question and choice lengths; YouTube allows two to four answers. Short labels are easier to scan while watching.
- Explain the voting rules. Tell viewers how long they have, what each option means, and whether a paid-in-points extra-vote mechanism is enabled on Twitch.
- Introduce, wait, and close. Say the poll is open, leave viewers time to notice and vote, then close it and read the result. There is no universal ideal duration; fit it to the segment.
- Respond to the outcome. Acknowledge participation and explain what you will do with the result. If you use YouTube, remind replay viewers that the poll itself will not be in chat replay.
