What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
First find out where playback stops: in the YouTube player, in OBS’s captured audio, or only in your headphones or speakers. Start the radio, switch away from OBS, and watch the relevant source meter in the OBS mixer. If it keeps moving, OBS is still receiving audio and the problem is likely the listening route. If it stops, check browser playback and OBS’s capture source or device.
Identify what “loses focus” means in your setup
There are three different arrangements that can look like the same problem:
- Ordinary browser playback: YouTube plays in Chrome, Brave, or another browser. OBS may not capture it at all.
- Captured browser or display: YouTube plays in a normal browser, while OBS uses Window Capture or Display Capture to capture it.
- OBS Browser Source: The YouTube player is embedded as a Browser Source in an OBS scene rather than playing in a separate browser window.
Identify which arrangement you use before changing settings. A browser that pauses or freezes, an OBS capture source that stops receiving sound, and a monitoring device that stops playing sound require different fixes.
Use the OBS mixer to locate the failure
- Start the YouTube radio stream.
- In OBS, find the mixer meter for the source that should carry its audio.
- Switch focus away from OBS and check whether that meter continues moving.
The mixer meter shows the source’s input level. OBS’s monitor control sends source audio through the monitoring device configured in OBS; it is a separate part of the route. OBS explains these controls in its audio monitoring documentation.

If the meter keeps moving but you hear silence
OBS is still receiving audio, so focus on the listening route rather than the capture source. Check which monitoring device OBS is set to use, then check the operating system’s sound output and volume. Also check the application’s individual volume: OBS notes that operating-system and per-application volume controls can affect what OBS hears. Test with the actual output device you expect to use.
If the meter stops moving
Check that the intended source is active and that OBS is capturing the correct device. OBS supports scene-level Audio Input Capture and Audio Output Capture on Windows and macOS; on Linux, the documented options include ALSA and PulseAudio capture. If you add a scene-specific audio capture source, do not also select the same device globally under Settings → Audio: OBS warns that capturing the same device in both places can cause echo. See the OBS Audio Sources guide for the available source types.

Check for a browser capture freeze only if the symptoms match
A narrow, unresolved report opened on June 13, 2026, describes Windows 11 with OBS 32.1.2 and Chrome or Brave using Window Capture or Display Capture. The reporter says playback froze after resizing the browser or bringing it forward. They reported avoiding the problem on their system by using a D3D9 ANGLE backend setting or capturing a different window. This is one user report, not an established or universal cause or fix; consider it only if your setup and symptoms closely match. Read the OBS issue report before changing browser graphics settings.
Keep Browser Source problems separate
If the player is an OBS Browser Source, a captured Chrome window is not the same setup. A separate report describes stuttering of Browser Source video or animations when OBS loses focus on Windows 11, and alleges process throttling. It does not establish that an audio-only YouTube stream has the same problem. Treat it as a separate reported issue, not as proof of the cause of your audio dropout. See the Browser Source issue report.

Common symptoms and next checks
| What you observe | What it suggests | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| OBS meter moves, but you cannot hear the stream | Audio reaches OBS; the local monitoring or listening route may be the problem. | OBS monitoring device, operating-system output, and OBS or browser application volume. |
| OBS meter stops when focus changes | The source signal or capture path may have stopped. | Whether the browser player is still playing, whether the capture source is active, and whether the correct device is selected. |
| Browser playback freezes after resize or refocus | May resemble the narrow Windows 11 capture report, but does not prove the same cause. | Compare OS, OBS version, browser, capture type, and trigger with the report; test cautiously rather than assuming its workaround applies. |
| Browser Source video or animation stutters | A separate reported Browser Source behavior; not evidence by itself of an audio-only failure. | Confirm that the source is an OBS Browser Source, not a captured browser window. |
| You hear echo after adding a scene audio source | The same device may be captured both globally and in the scene. | Check Settings → Audio and the scene’s audio capture sources; avoid selecting the same device in both. |
