Which payment methods can you use from India?
Hetzner says payment options vary by country. Its general payment overview lists the methods below, but it does not establish which ones a new account with an Indian billing address will actually be offered. Check the payment methods shown in your Hetzner account before choosing a server.

Choose the account currency before creating it
Hetzner allows a new account to be set up in EUR or USD. It says the currency cannot be changed after account creation; changing it requires creating a new account and transferring products. Select the currency you intend to use before registering, and consider how your bank or card provider handles foreign-currency payments.

Understand invoices, payment timing and VAT
Hetzner bills retrospectively: it issues an invoice after use, says the invoice is due immediately, and requires payment within 10 days. Card payments are charged automatically after invoice issue, except UnionPay; bank transfer and PayPal require manual payment. Plan to review invoices and pay promptly, particularly if you choose a manual method.
Hetzner states that customers in countries outside the EU receive invoices without VAT. That describes Hetzner’s invoice treatment; it does not determine whether you have separate Indian tax or reporting obligations. Check with a qualified tax adviser if those obligations affect your purchase.

What you need for a YouTube Live stream from a server
A Hetzner server supplies computing and network resources; it does not automatically capture a camera, provide a media source, or configure a broadcast. You need a source for the video or audio and an encoder or relay configured to send the stream to YouTube. YouTube explains that an encoder converts video into a digital format for streaming, and supports encoder-based broadcasts.
- Media source: Decide whether you are encoding a live camera or other live input, or relaying already encoded media. A server does not create the source.
- Encoder and stream destination: Configure software or hardware that can send a supported stream to YouTube. YouTube documents RTMP/RTMPS ingestion and H.264, H.265 and AV1 video.
- Capacity and operations: Match the server and network capacity to the encoding workload and chosen quality. You remain responsible for managing and securing a Hetzner root or cloud server.
If this is your first time enabling YouTube Live, YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours. Enable it and verify access before a scheduled broadcast.

Set encoder quality to match a sustainable connection
YouTube recommends choosing quality based on a reliable connection and testing with audio and representative motion before going live. For H.264, its recommended bitrates include:

These are YouTube recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular Hetzner server, route or encoder will sustain the stream. YouTube recommends CBR encoding and a two-second keyframe frequency, with keyframes no more than four seconds apart. Use the settings supported by your encoder, then test the entire path—source, encoder, server and YouTube ingest—with the intended resolution, frame rate, audio and motion.

Check server suitability before relying on it
Compare candidate server options against the actual work you will run, rather than assuming any VPS can handle any broadcast. Consider:
- Workload: Whether the server only relays an already encoded stream or performs encoding, which adds processing demand.
- Stream settings: Resolution, frame rate, bitrate and codec for the planned broadcast.
- Network and location: Sustained capacity and latency between the source, server and YouTube ingest point.
- Operations: Your ability to configure, monitor, secure and recover a server-based streaming setup.
- Cost and billing currency: Server charges, transfer or conversion costs from your payment provider, and your selected Hetzner account currency.
Hetzner’s terms state an annual average network availability target of 99.9% at its data centers, describing economically reasonable efforts. This is a stated target, not a promise of uninterrupted performance for an individual live stream. Hetzner also assigns customers responsibility for managing and securing root and cloud servers. Review its terms and conditions and test the full stream before an important broadcast.
Payment and setup checklist
- Create the Hetzner account in EUR or USD only after deciding which currency you want; it cannot later be changed on that account.
- Open the account’s billing or payment area and confirm which methods are available for your Indian billing details.
- If paying by card, check international and recurring-payment settings with your issuer. If paying by transfer, include your Hetzner customer ID and confirm bank fees and conversion costs.
- After ordering, monitor invoices. Hetzner says invoices are issued after use, due immediately and payable within 10 days.
- Separately enable YouTube Live if needed, configure a media source and encoder, and test the complete stream at the intended quality before scheduling a broadcast.
Common problems and what to do
- A payment method you expected is missing: Hetzner says availability differs by country. Use a method actually displayed in the account, or contact Hetzner support to clarify eligibility.
- A card charge fails: Check with the card issuer for international online or recurring-payment restrictions, then confirm the card details and account payment options. The documentation does not establish a specific Indian-card failure rule for Hetzner.
- A bank transfer is hard to match: Include the Hetzner customer ID in the payment reference and retain the transfer confirmation. Allow for your bank’s processing time and charges.
- YouTube does not accept the stream: Confirm live-stream access is enabled, the encoder is configured for YouTube’s ingestion settings, and the stream key and destination are correct in the encoder. Test before the event.
- The stream buffers or drops: Reduce output quality if the connection cannot sustain the selected bitrate, check server and source network stability, and run a representative test. A server rental and Hetzner’s availability target do not guarantee a continuous broadcast.
- The server has no camera or program feed: Connect and configure a media source or use a relay input. A rented server does not capture live video by itself.
