To earn recurring membership revenue, qualify for YouTube’s fan-funding tier of the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), pass its review and feature checks, accept the applicable terms, and switch memberships on in YouTube Studio. Then offer sustainable member benefits and make sure the stream—and any archive—uses content you have the rights to use.
How YouTube channel memberships generate revenue
Channel memberships let viewers make recurring monthly payments in exchange for channel perks, which can include badges, emoji, and other benefits. The creator chooses and delivers the perks; devotional extras such as an occasional members-only prayer or study session are ideas, not requirements set by YouTube. Memberships are one possible income source, not a promise of earnings. YouTube does not provide a typical conversion rate or income estimate for a devotional livestream.
For a 24/7 channel, the core stream can remain accessible to everyone while memberships offer a separate, clearly described benefit. Explain what joining supports and what members receive without making the devotional broadcast feel like a constant sales pitch.
Check eligibility before planning membership income
The lower YPP tier for fan funding
YouTube’s monetization help page, accessed October 3, 2026, documents a lower YPP tier for listed fan-funding features in eligible regions: 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the previous 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public long-form watch hours in the previous 365 days or 3 million qualified Shorts views in the previous 90 days. Memberships also have feature-specific conditions: the creator must be at least 18, live where memberships are available, accept the Commerce Product Module or applicable prior addendum, and meet YouTube’s channel-specific eligibility rules. YouTube reviews applications; reaching the thresholds alone does not guarantee acceptance. The higher threshold for ad revenue
The higher YPP tier documented on the same YouTube monetization page is 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 qualified public long-form watch hours in the previous 365 days or 10 million qualified Shorts views in the previous 90 days. This is associated with watch-page ads and other listed revenue features, subject to their own requirements. It is distinct from the lower fan-funding tier: do not assume you need the higher threshold just to pursue memberships, or that meeting the lower one unlocks every earning feature.
Availability and requirements can vary by region and feature. Check the Earn tab in YouTube Studio and YouTube’s current help pages for your channel before setting income expectations. The watch time of a continuous stream by itself does not ensure YPP eligibility or approval; qualifying activity, channel compliance, and review still matter.

Turn on memberships and make the offer sustainable
- Confirm your channel is eligible. In YouTube Studio, open the Earn tab and check the channel’s YPP and memberships status. Resolve any displayed eligibility or policy issues before planning a launch.
- Accept the applicable terms. Follow the Studio prompts for the Commerce Product Module or applicable prior addendum. Memberships require acceptance of the relevant terms.
- Create membership levels and perks. Set benefits you can deliver reliably. Examples for a devotional channel include member badges and emoji, a members-only community post, or an occasional guided devotional or study session.
- Describe the offer plainly. State the price and what each level includes in the membership details. Do not imply that joining is necessary to participate in the public devotional stream, or promise constant personal access if you cannot provide it.
- Introduce memberships gently. Use the stream description, a pinned message, scheduled announcements, or brief transitions rather than repeatedly interrupting prayer or worship. Keep the invitation consistent with the channel’s tone.
Keep a manageable fulfillment schedule. A benefit that happens occasionally and on a stated schedule is easier to sustain than an open-ended promise of continuous personal attention.
Other YouTube revenue options—and how they differ
YouTube lists several possible earning routes, but their availability and requirements are not identical. Check the Earn tab and applicable terms for each feature; none guarantees income.

Memberships differ from Super Chat and Super Stickers in their recurring-payment structure; live chat payments are viewer-initiated. Ads may be absent or interrupt the experience, while Shopping depends on eligible products and access. These are options to evaluate, not guaranteed earnings. Protect the stream’s archive, music rights, and monetization eligibility
Plan for the 12-hour archive limit
YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all and recommends keeping a local archive backup. A continuous 24/7 broadcast exceeds that duration, so do not rely on YouTube’s archive as a complete recording. Set up dependable local recording and storage if you need a full record. If persistent archives or smaller recordings matter, you can consider planned stream endings and restarts; that is an operational choice, not a YouTube requirement. Clear rights for both live and recorded use
YouTube’s livestream terms make the creator responsible for having the necessary rights to live content and archives, including music rights involving artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. A license for one use may not cover every territory, livestream, archive, or monetized use. Check the actual license grant with the rights holder before broadcasting. YouTube also requires necessary rights to audio and visual elements when enabling ads. Its livestream terms state: “The Live Content must comply with the YouTube Community Guidelines.” See YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions and YouTube Partner Program overview.
Show original value, not just permission
Copyright permission and monetization review are separate. YouTube’s policy applies to live streams as well as other content. On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed its “repetitious content” policy to “inauthentic content” and clarified that repetitive or mass-produced material is ineligible; YouTube said that material was already ineligible under its existing policy. Separately, reused-content review can affect monetization even where a creator has permission or no copyright claim is present. A loop is not automatically disallowed, but a channel built from repetitive or minimally changed material can carry monetization risk. Where appropriate, make the channel’s original contribution clear through original readings, commentary, teaching, curation, community interaction, or substantive production choices. Grow toward eligibility if memberships are not available yet
If the channel has not qualified for fan funding, focus on original, discoverable devotional videos and community activity while building toward the documented threshold. Do not treat continuous-stream watch time as a shortcut or assume every hour will count toward YPP. Review YouTube’s qualification rules, keep content rights in order, and check the Earn tab for channel-specific status and regional availability.
