To rotate music genres by day on YouTube Live, schedule a separate live event for each day or genre edition in YouTube Studio. You can create new events or reuse earlier stream settings, but YouTube’s documented workflow does not provide an automatic weekday-to-genre rotation. Plan the weekly lineup yourself, then schedule and promote each event individually.
Plan the weekly genre rotation
Choose a pattern that fits your channel before opening YouTube Studio. You might assign one genre to each weekday, or repeat a smaller set of genres across the week. YouTube does not prescribe a schedule or establish that one cadence grows an audience better than another; the rotation is your programming choice.
Make a simple calendar of the day, genre, date, start time, and event title for each edition. A consistent schedule makes the lineup easy to understand, while distinct genre names help viewers choose the event that interests them.
Schedule each genre edition in YouTube Studio
- Open the scheduling workflow: In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live > Manage > Schedule Stream. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe this Live Control Room workflow.
- Create or reuse an event: Choose Create new for a fresh event, or Reuse settings to carry over settings from an earlier stream. Reusing settings saves re-entry, but review every field so the new edition has the right information.
- Set the event details: Enter the date and start time, then use a title and description that identify the genre and day. For example, “Jazz Tuesdays | Live session” is a clear editorial format, not a required YouTube title pattern. Check that the title, description, and scheduled time all refer to the same edition.
- Repeat for the rest of the week: Schedule a separate event for each planned day or genre edition. The documented workflow supports individual scheduled streams and reused settings; it does not establish automatic genre rotation.
- Copy and share each watch-page URL: Promote the relevant event using your channel’s usual surfaces. Scheduled events can appear as upcoming, and viewers may select Notify me on the event page.
Make the rotation easy to follow
Use clear, consistent event titles
Put the genre and day where viewers can spot them quickly. Keep the naming pattern consistent across the calendar, but make each edition distinguishable. A title such as “Classical Wednesdays | Live session” tells viewers more than a generic “Live music” title.

Use descriptions for useful context
Use the description to explain what that edition contains and include relevant details for viewers. If the stream includes music from others, do not treat a description, credit, or genre label as a substitute for the rights needed to broadcast it.
Do not rely on tags for discovery
YouTube describes tags as descriptive keywords and says they play a minimal role in discovery except when a video’s content is commonly misspelled. Use accurate tags where they help with misspellings, but prioritize a clear title, description, scheduled event, and direct promotion.

Clear music rights before scheduling a broadcast
Rights are a launch requirement, not an afterthought. YouTube says all live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content. If a match is identified, YouTube may replace the stream with a placeholder and warn the creator to stop using the content; continued use can lead to a temporary interruption or termination. A stream can also end after a copyright or Community Guidelines strike. See YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
If you have a license, confirm that it covers live streaming, the territories where the stream will be available, the relevant composition and recording rights, and any archived replay you intend to make available. YouTube notes that a rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; without that, a stream may still be interrupted even when the music is licensed or geographically restricted. Ask the licensor about allowlisting before the event. These are practical checks, not legal advice; license terms vary.

YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions put responsibility on the creator to have the necessary rights for live content, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Do not assume that permission to use a recording in one context also grants permission to broadcast it live worldwide.
Prepare and check each live event
YouTube recommends setting up an encoder at least two hours before an event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. Use that lead time to check the Live Control Room preview, confirm that the scheduled event is accessible, and monitor audio and video quality. YouTube’s live streaming tips describe these preparation steps.
