Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →You can loop a compatible 4K 60fps file to YouTube Live with FFmpeg without locally decoding and re-encoding it: use -stream_loop -1 before the input and -c copy for the output. That avoids an extra local encode, but it does not stop YouTube from processing the incoming live stream into playback formats for viewers.
What “without re-encoding” means
FFmpeg streamcopy sends the file’s already encoded audio and video packets instead of decoding them and encoding them again. FFmpeg’s documentation says, “Since there is no decoding or encoding, it is very fast and there is no quality loss.” That describes the local streamcopy step, not a guarantee that every file is compatible with YouTube’s ingest requirements.
YouTube separately processes live input for playback. Its guidance says, “YouTube will automatically transcode your live stream to create many different output formats so that all of your viewers across many devices and networks can watch.” Streamcopy can avoid another encode on the computer sending the stream; it cannot prevent YouTube-side transcoding.
Check whether your file is suitable for streamcopy
-c copy preserves the input’s encoded streams. It does not convert codecs, alter frame rate, change bitrate, apply filters, scale the picture, or add overlays. Whether it works depends on the file’s codecs, stream structure, timestamps, and compatibility with the selected output and YouTube ingest path.

- 【Support Mic-in for Commentary】Rybozen capture card has microphone input and you can use it to add external commentary when playing a game. Please note: it only accepts 3.5mm TRS standard microphone headset.
- Check the video and audio codecs, frame rate, resolution, and stream structure in your media inspection tool of choice.
- Compare the file’s codecs and output requirements with YouTube’s current encoder guidance. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, supports frame rates up to 60 fps, and accepts RTMP/RTMPS ingest.
- Check that the source’s keyframe interval and other ingest characteristics meet the current guidance. A source bitrate alone is not a reason to re-encode.
- Use YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health feedback during a private or unlisted setup if you want to check ingest before a public broadcast.
If the source does not meet the required format or streamcopy fails, you may need to remux it or transcode it. Remuxing changes the container without re-encoding the streams when their codecs are compatible with the destination; transcoding decodes and encodes again, enabling changes such as scaling or overlays but using compute and potentially adding generation loss.
Loop the file to YouTube with FFmpeg
- Get your YouTube ingest details. In YouTube Studio, create or open the live stream in Live Control Room and copy the server URL and stream key shown for the encoder setup. Keep the key private: anyone with it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
- Set the URL and key as shell variables. In a shell, use the exact server URL YouTube provides and your stream key. For example:
YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL='rtmps://server-url-from-youtube'andSTREAM_KEY='your-private-stream-key'. These are placeholders; do not broadcast with them literally. - Run the streamcopy loop. Replace
input.mp4with your file and use the server URL and key from YouTube:ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i input.mp4 -c copy -f flv "$YOUTUBE_INGEST_URL/$STREAM_KEY"This is an illustrative template, not a tested, universal command.
-stream_loop -1is an input option, so it appears before-i; it requests indefinite repetition.-rereads at native rate, which is useful for live output timing.-c copyis an output option. The FLV output format is commonly used with RTMP-family ingest, but the source streams still need to be compatible. - Confirm the ingest is healthy. Watch FFmpeg’s output for stream mapping or compatibility errors, and check YouTube Live Control Room’s stream-health indicators. A running FFmpeg process alone does not prove viewers are receiving a healthy stream.
YouTube’s encoder setup instructions explain where to enter the server URL and stream key in an encoder. See Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder. Do not share or publish the stream key.

Use YouTube’s current 4K60 ingest settings as a check
YouTube’s English UK encoder guidance, accessed 2026-10-03, lists these ingest bitrate figures for 2160p at 60 fps. Regional language versions have shown inconsistent table values, so confirm the live YouTube Help table for your region before configuring a stream.
| Video codec | Recommended bitrate at 2160p60 | Minimum bitrate at 2160p60 |
|---|---|---|
| H.264 | 50 Mbps | 14 Mbps |
| AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 35 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
The recommended encoder settings also specify CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, which should not exceed four seconds. For streamcopy, FFmpeg is not changing those values: they come from the source file. If the source does not meet the ingest requirements, changing a bitrate option alone is not a streamcopy fix; changing the encoded bitrate generally requires encoding again.

YouTube recommends RTMPS as the secure ingest option. Its guidance also says 2160p streams do not offer the low-latency setting and use normal latency. See Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the current encoder and bitrate guidance.

| Need | Streamcopy | Transcoding |
|---|---|---|
| Preserve the existing encoded video and audio | Copies the encoded streams without a local decode/encode step, when compatible. | Creates newly encoded streams and can introduce another generation of encoding loss. |
| Change codec, bitrate, resolution, or frame rate | Does not make these changes. | Can make these changes, subject to encoder settings and available compute. |
| Add filters, scale, or overlay graphics | Cannot filter or transform decoded frames. | Normally required because the video must be decoded and encoded again. |
| Avoid YouTube playback processing | Does not do this; YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats. | Does not do this either; YouTube’s playback processing is separate from your local encoding choice. |
Use streamcopy when preserving the source streams matters and the file fits the ingest path. Choose a transcode when you need to change the streams or streamcopy is incompatible.

Troubleshooting a failed or unstable loop
- FFmpeg reports that it cannot copy a stream or write the output. The input streams may not be compatible with the selected output or ingest path. Check the stream mapping and codec information; remux if the streams are suitable but the container needs changing, or transcode if the encoded streams must change.
- YouTube reports an ingest or stream-health problem. Compare the source codec, frame rate, keyframe interval, and bitrate against the current YouTube encoder guidance. For 2160p60, use the regional table as the reference rather than assuming one bitrate target applies everywhere.
- The loop runs but playback is not smooth. Check FFmpeg’s output and YouTube’s stream-health feedback, as well as the timestamps and structure of the source file.
-rereads input at native rate; it does not repair a malformed or incompatible source. - You need a different bitrate or an overlay. Streamcopy cannot apply those changes. Use a compatible transcode workflow and account for the additional local encoding load, or omit the transformation.
- The live broadcast ends or the archive is missing. A looping input does not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast or an indefinite archive. YouTube says live streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume an archive for longer streams. See YouTube’s live stream archive guidance.
Copyright and channel-policy checks still apply
Looping a file does not grant permission to broadcast its contents. Confirm that you have the rights needed for the video, music, and other material, and review YouTube’s rules before going live. Reusing a recording also does not guarantee monetization: follow the platform’s channel monetization policies rather than treating a technical loop as an exception. You can use this copyright safety checklist to review rights-related questions before streaming.
