Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteFirst, copy YouTube’s RTMPS server URL—not the default RTMP URL—from Live Control Room, then use that URL with your stream key. Check that the protocol and server are both rtmps; if the certificate error persists, set port 443. For a custom client, also verify that TLS Server Name Indication (SNI) uses the exact ingestion hostname.
Fix the endpoint in your encoder first
- Copy YouTube’s secure stream URL. Open YouTube Live Control Room, select an existing stream or schedule one, then open Stream settings. Use the lock control beside Stream URL to reveal the RTMPS URL and copy it. YouTube shows the ordinary RTMP URL by default, so do not assume the displayed address is secure. Copy the stream key from Live Control Room separately; the URL and key are distinct encoder settings. YouTube Help: Encrypt your stream using RTMPS.
- Use the assigned address exactly. Paste the RTMPS URL into your encoder’s server or URL field and the corresponding stream key into its key field. Check that both the protocol and server use
rtmps, notrtmp. Do not substitute a remembered or generic ingestion hostname for the address assigned to your stream. - Set port 443 if the error remains. If the secure URL appears correct but YouTube still reports an invalid SSL certificate, explicitly specify port
443in the URL or the encoder’s port setting. Keep YouTube’s assigned hostname and stream path intact; use the URL from Live Control Room rather than copying a generic example. - Reconnect and check the result. Save the server and key settings, then start or reconnect the stream. If it still fails, record the full error and proceed through the checks below rather than disabling certificate validation.
Why an SSL certificate error can happen
RTMPS is RTMP carried over TLS/SSL. Google’s developer guide explains that an invalid-certificate error may mean the client is attempting an SSL connection to a YouTube server that expects RTMP. That is a useful diagnostic possibility, not proof that every certificate error has the same cause: a wrong port or a client SSL library’s certificate handling can also be involved. Google for Developers: Delivering Live YouTube Content via RTMPS.
The practical distinction is where you configure the connection. With a standard encoder, confirm the RTMPS preset or assigned URL and port. With a custom or API client, verify the TLS socket, port, SNI hostname, and low-level certificate diagnostics.
If you use a custom or API client
Establish TLS to the assigned host on port 443
Google’s ingestion guidance calls for an SSL/TLS connection to port 443 at the server named in the ingestion URL. Use the exact hostname from that URL; once TLS is established, the RTMP client library uses the connection.

- Compact but Powerful Design: ZowieBox is smaller than a phone, featuring a tally light and LCD screen for streaming status. Capture console gameplay in up to 4K with zero-lag HDMI passthrough, while the built-in video encoder converts video for IP streaming. The IP stream can also be decoded back to a 4K HDMI signal.
- Standalone Game Streaming: Just plug and play—ZowieBox enables PC-free live gaming without affecting gameplay. As an RTMP hardware encoder and HDMI streamer, it delivers stable streaming directly from your source, making it ideal for gaming, live events, and professional broadcasting.
- NDI|HX3 Converter Technology: ZowieBox converts HDMI signals to NDI|HX3/HX2/HX, functioning as an NDI video encoder, or NDI Video Decoder for flexible IP workflows. Certified NDI technology enables low-latency gameplay streaming through OBS/vMix. Note: Encoder and decoder modes cannot run simultaneously; full NDI signals are not supported.
- UVC to HDMI Conversion: Supporting up to 4K@30fps and 1080p@60fps decoding, ZowieBox enables flexible conversion for webcam and video workflows. As a video decoder and HDMI to IP converter, it expands connectivity options for professional video devices. Note: USB capture card functionality is not currently supported.
- All-around Configuration Options: Control ZowieBox through its web UI on a PC, phone, or tablet. Manage connected PTZ cameras, tally light, video/audio, OSD, work mode, streams, network, and system settings. Support for VISCA over IP encoder workflows enables flexible PTZ control, while the dashboard provides video preview and system status.
Set SNI to the ingestion hostname
In the TLS handshake, send Server Name Indication (SNI) with the actual ingestion hostname. A client that omits SNI or sends a different server name can fail to receive or validate the certificate for the intended endpoint. Preserve normal certificate validation; do not treat turning it off as a fix.
Read the client’s TLS diagnostics
If the URL, port, and SNI are correct, inspect the detailed SSL/TLS error from the client and check whether its SSL library handles certificate validation correctly. The right next step depends on the client, operating system, library, and full error message; without those specifics, there is no reliable platform-independent certificate-store fix to prescribe.

Built-in OSD generator adds scrolling text, logos, or timestamps directly to the video stream — ideal for branding, event info, or security labeling. Backed by a 1-year warranty and 24/7 online technical support.
Check encoder support for RTMPS
Update the encoder and look for a built-in YouTube RTMPS preset. If it has none, enter the assigned RTMPS URL directly and configure port 443 if needed. If the connection still fails, confirm in the encoder’s documentation that its current version supports RTMPS; support for ordinary RTMP alone does not establish RTMPS support. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance recommends checking encoder support and its documentation. YouTube Help: Encrypt your stream using RTMPS.
Troubleshoot by symptom
| What you see | Likely check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Invalid certificate immediately after connecting | The encoder may be using the default RTMP address rather than the secure one. | Reveal and copy the RTMPS URL in Live Control Room; verify the URL’s protocol and server are rtmps. |
| The RTMPS URL looks right, but the error continues | The connection may be using the wrong port. | Set port 443 explicitly while preserving the assigned hostname and path. |
| A custom client reports a hostname or certificate mismatch | SNI may be missing or set to a different hostname. | Set SNI to the exact ingestion hostname from YouTube’s URL and inspect the client’s TLS diagnostics. |
| The endpoint, port, and SNI appear correct | The client’s SSL library or encoder may not handle RTMPS or certificate validation correctly. | Check the low-level TLS error, update the encoder or client, and consult its documentation for RTMPS support. Avoid disabling certificate checks. |
| The settings are accepted, but the stream does not connect | The URL and stream key are separate settings, or the encoder may not support the selected connection type. | Copy both values from the same stream in Live Control Room, verify each field, and confirm RTMPS support with the encoder’s documentation. |
