To promote a store’s Diwali sale on YouTube Live, first confirm the channel can stream, choose a phone, webcam, or encoder setup, schedule the event, and share its link at least 48 hours ahead. Plan a clear product sequence, verify every offer against current inventory and terms, test the stream, and explain how viewers can buy. YouTube Shopping product tags can help eligible stores, but availability depends on channel, store, product, rights, and viewer-region requirements.
1. Confirm the channel can go live
YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. The host must be at least 16 years old. Check eligibility in YouTube Studio before announcing the event; requirements do not establish whether a particular channel is eligible. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup guidance.
Choose the format that fits the sale rather than buying equipment by default:
- Mobile: useful for quick, phone-based updates and demonstrations. YouTube’s mobile live-streaming eligibility and setup requirements apply.
- Webcam: a straightforward computer-based presentation. This route requires a webcam.
- Encoder: appropriate when the production needs more control over cameras, audio, graphics, or scene changes. YouTube’s encoder instructions apply.
- Console: YouTube also lists console streaming, though it is not a natural fit for most store product demonstrations.
A webcam is necessary only for the webcam route; a phone or encoder is an alternative. YouTube documents the available routes on its start a live stream page.

2. Plan the sale’s run of show
Give the stream a defined beginning, middle, and end. YouTube’s live-shopping guidance recommends deciding the stream’s purpose, structure, pace, product count, and product order in advance. A practical sequence is:
- Welcome and orient viewers: identify the store, the sale period, and where viewers can find the offer details.
- Explain the terms: state the dates, exclusions, shipping regions, promo-code rules, and expiry time before presenting products.
- Show featured items in a deliberate order: demonstrate each product clearly, explain its price and discount, and compare options when that helps customers decide.
- Answer questions: assign a moderator if the presenter needs to focus on products and demonstrations.
- Close with a clear next step: tell viewers where and when to shop, and restate any conditions they need to act on.
Before going live, check each advertised price, inventory level, stock limit, shipping destination, code spelling, and end time against the store’s live offer details. Do not promise a discount or availability the store cannot honor.

3. Schedule the stream and promote it
- Schedule the event in YouTube Studio and prepare an accurate title, thumbnail, and description. Identify the store, sale period, and product categories; include material offer terms viewers should know.
- Share the scheduled stream link at least 48 hours before the event, as YouTube recommends. Include the date and time with a time zone, the products or offers planned, and how viewers can take part in chat. See YouTube’s live-stream promotion tips.
- If using YouTube Shopping tags, connect the store and get products approved in advance. YouTube says its own-store product approval can take up to five days, so do not assume a newly submitted product will be taggable by the sale date. Check the current status in YouTube Studio.
- If the promotion depends on a product drop with publish dates, YouTube recommends setting it up at least one week ahead as a best practice; product review usually takes several business days. Confirm timing and setup in the current product-drop guidance.
4. Test the production and connection
Test the setup before the event and check the preview in YouTube Live Control Room. For an encoder stream, YouTube’s tips say to set up the stream at least two hours in advance and start the encoder at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. Leave about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the total stream bitrate; upload speed, not just download speed, is the relevant connection measure. These are YouTube recommendations, not guarantees that a particular network will perform well. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- Check that the presenter’s voice is clear and product details are visible in the camera frame.
- Confirm lighting, framing, and any graphics or offer details on screen.
- Check that staff know who presents, monitors chat, and handles purchase questions.
- Test the route viewers will use to buy, including any landing page, checkout, and discount code.
- For encoder workflows, confirm the stream appears in the Live Control Room preview before the scheduled start.
5. Run the stream and handle product tags carefully
Open with a short welcome and explain the sequence. Show each featured item prominently, describe its offer and limitations, and respond to questions without implying that a limited quantity or deadline is guaranteed unless the store can honor it. A moderator can surface questions while the presenter demonstrates products.

YouTube Shopping can support tagging a store’s own products when the channel and store meet YouTube’s criteria. Shopify is among the integrations named in YouTube’s live-shopping guidance. Tagging other brands’ products is a separate eligibility route through YouTube’s Shopping affiliate program; check current eligibility and participating products in YouTube Studio. The reviewed guidance does not establish commission rates or program terms.
Tags are not guaranteed to appear for every viewer: availability depends on YouTube’s supported regions and whether the product can ship to that viewer. Claimed content or content marked made for kids can prevent tags from showing. YouTube also says tagged products must be meaningfully related to the stream, featured prominently, used safely, and supported by cleared content rights, including music rights. See YouTube’s product-tagging requirements.
