If Streamlabs Desktop will not start your broadcast, first note the exact error and whether the failure happens on one platform or only when multistreaming. Then work through the account, app, and connection checks below. These are steps documented by Streamlabs; they are not guaranteed fixes, and the cause depends on your platform and setup.
First identify the failure
Write down the exact error message, if one appears. Also check whether Streamlabs fails when sending to a single platform or only when sending to multiple platforms. Use the general checks for a single-platform failure; reserve the multistream-specific network and bitrate checks for a problem that occurs only while multistreaming.
- Visible connection error: Match its wording to the connection-settings section below, especially if it says “Invalid Path or Connection URL.”
- No useful error: Start with the general checks, then check the platform-specific workflow and collect a Diagnostic Report if the problem continues.
- Possible service outage: The available Streamlabs guidance does not establish whether YouTube, Twitch, or Streamlabs is experiencing an outage when you encounter a failure. Check the relevant platform’s official status channel.
Run Streamlabs’ general checks
Try these vendor-documented checks before changing network settings. They are not proof that any one item caused the failure.
- Install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables for 2022 and restart your PC. This is the runtime version specified by Streamlabs’ going-live troubleshooting page.
- Sign out, restart Streamlabs Desktop as administrator, then sign back in. Close the app, launch it with administrator privileges, and log back into your account.
- Verify your stream key. Check that Streamlabs has the correct key for the intended account and destination. Do not share the key; treat it like a password.
- Check encoder selection in Advanced Output Mode. If you use NVENC or AMD encoding, Streamlabs says to ensure the GPU is set to “0.”
- If streaming to Twitch, run Auto-Optimizer and check account 2FA. Find Auto-Optimizer in General Settings and make sure two-factor authentication is enabled on the Twitch account.
Streamlabs’ getting-started guidance also recommends updating Windows and graphics drivers and allowing Streamlabs Desktop through firewall and antivirus controls. That guide refers to Visual C++ 2017 redistributables, while the going-live troubleshooting page specifies 2022; for this particular failure, use the version named on the going-live page rather than treating those references as interchangeable.

Fix “Invalid Path or Connection URL” and server errors
Try Bind to IP for the named error
- In Streamlabs Desktop, open Settings > Advanced.
- Scroll to Bind to IP.
- Change Default to a local machine address, such as a 192.168.x.x or 10.0.x.x address, as Streamlabs directs.
- Retry going live. If the error remains, restore or test another appropriate setting rather than assuming the address change is a universal fix.
Reload the ingest-server selection for a persistent general error
- Open Stream settings and choose Custom Ingest.
- Select a different service, then select the service you actually intend to use again. Streamlabs says this reloads the server list.
- Choose a server manually instead of leaving it on Auto, then try going live again.
If you are streaming to YouTube
Streamlabs documents two ways to handle the YouTube live event. Pick the one that matches whether you have already created an event in YouTube Studio.
Let Streamlabs create the event
- Connect or sign in to Streamlabs Desktop with the YouTube account you intend to stream from.
- Use Go Live in Streamlabs. In this workflow, Streamlabs creates the event automatically.
Select an event created in YouTube first
- Create the live event in YouTube’s dashboard.
- Open Streamlabs’ Go Live window and select that event.
- Confirm the selection and proceed with going live.
If you created an event in YouTube but Streamlabs is expecting to create one, use the second flow and select the existing event rather than assuming the two workflows are the same.

If the failure happens only while multistreaming
Streamlabs’ multistreaming guidance is specific to sending to multiple destinations. Do not apply its multi-destination bitrate advice as a universal requirement for a single-platform broadcast.
- Check firewall and antivirus access. Confirm they are not blocking Streamlabs Desktop.
- Look for network or encoding interference. VPNs and software bundled with a PC can interfere; temporarily test without them where safe and permitted.
- Review Bind to IP and IPv6-related settings. Streamlabs discusses these in its multistream guidance; use the setting that matches your network rather than changing it blindly.
- Keep bitrate within every destination’s ceiling. When destinations differ, the strictest applicable limit governs the shared stream settings. Check the current official limit for each platform; figures can change.
- Set the keyframe interval to 2. This is the setting Streamlabs’ multistreaming guide calls out for that scenario.
Collect a Diagnostic Report and contact support
If Streamlabs still will not go live, its Diagnostic Report can give support useful context. The report can include the app version and bundle, connected platforms and usernames, recent stream-error logs, crash times, Streamlabs settings, active scene collection and source settings, operating system, CPU, memory, GPU and driver details, administrator status, display details, and available audio/video devices.
