You can keep a YouTube livestream running around the clock with Muvi Live by creating a Muvi stream, connecting an encoder to its stream URL and key, and routing the feed to YouTube. Before building the setup, confirm exactly how your Muvi account sends a stream to YouTube: Muvi documents encoder ingestion and separately advertises social integration and simulcasting, but its published material does not establish the current account-level steps for the YouTube route.
Before you start: confirm YouTube and Muvi are ready
Enable live streaming on the YouTube channel
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. First-time live activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the planned launch. Check the channel’s eligibility in YouTube Studio and Live Control Room rather than assuming an older setup is still enabled. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance explains the current requirements.
Establish the route from Muvi to YouTube
There are two distinct jobs: Muvi can accept an encoder feed at a Muvi stream URL/key, and the resulting video must reach YouTube as the audience-facing destination. Muvi’s setup documentation describes the first job; Muvi also advertises social-platform integration and simulcasting. The sources available do not specify the exact current account-level routing steps for YouTube, whether that route is available on every account, or how destinations are configured. Before proceeding, check the instructions in your Muvi dashboard or ask Muvi support which of these applies to your account:
- Your encoder sends video to Muvi, and Muvi distributes it to YouTube.
- Your encoder sends a feed directly to YouTube, with Muvi serving another role in the workflow.
- Your account uses another supported distribution path.
Do not paste a YouTube key into a Muvi destination field—or a Muvi key into YouTube—unless the current instructions for your chosen route explicitly call for it. The server URL and key must belong to the receiving service.

Set up the Muvi Live stream and encoder
- Create the stream in Muvi. In the Muvi dashboard, use the live-stream workflow to create a stream, add its metadata and options in the content library, then start the stream server. Muvi’s help documentation says stream information is available in the stream info area. The exact labels can change, so follow the current dashboard workflow. Muvi’s setup guide and Muvi’s encoder instructions describe the documented process.
- Copy the receiving server URL and stream key. Take the URL/key for the endpoint that will ingest your encoder feed. Keep them private; a stream key is a credential, not an ordinary setting.
- Configure an encoder. Muvi’s example uses OBS. Create a scene and add the appropriate video source, open the streaming settings, choose a custom service, and enter the Muvi server URL and stream key. Labels differ among encoder apps. Apply the settings, but begin streaming only after the receiving Muvi server is active.
- Configure the YouTube destination according to the route you verified. If Muvi’s current account workflow sends the feed to YouTube, set up that destination using its current instructions. If the encoder is configured to send directly to YouTube, select the relevant YouTube ingest server and enter the YouTube key in the encoder instead. Do not assume Muvi’s generic RTMP instructions alone complete YouTube distribution.
- Start the encoder and check the result. Confirm the feed appears in the expected Muvi view and in YouTube Live Control Room, as applicable to your route. Verify the watch page, picture, sound, stream health, and playback on a phone before making the stream public or relying on it continuously.
Choose YouTube-compatible video and audio settings
Use YouTube’s live encoder guidance as a baseline, then select settings that fit your format and sustained outbound bandwidth. Its current guidance recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and supported video and audio codecs. For H.264 at 1080p30, YouTube lists 10 Mbps as the recommended video bitrate; that figure is not a universal target for other resolutions, frame rates, or codecs. YouTube’s encoder settings guidance gives the supported combinations and recommendations.
- Protocol: Prefer RTMPS when the selected encoder and receiving route support it.
- Rate control: Set CBR, not a bitrate that varies unpredictably during the broadcast.
- Keyframes: Set the interval to two seconds.
- Video bitrate: Choose for the selected resolution, frame rate, and codec; treat 10 Mbps as YouTube’s H.264 1080p30 recommendation, not a blanket rule.
- Bandwidth: Test upload capacity under realistic conditions. YouTube recommends about 20% headroom above the combined stream bitrate, and the total bitrate must remain within available upload bandwidth. Prefer a reliable wired connection for a fixed encoder where practical; Ethernet is optional, not a required piece of Muvi or YouTube equipment. YouTube’s network tips explain bandwidth planning.
Test the continuous stream and its recovery plan
Run a private or otherwise non-public test before launch. Use representative movement and sound, not a static placeholder, and observe YouTube’s stream-health feedback while the stream is running. Check that your selected Muvi-to-YouTube route remains connected and that the watch page plays correctly on mobile as well as desktop.

A 24/7 setup also needs an explicit failure plan. Identify what you will do if the encoder, internet connection, Muvi service, or YouTube ingest drops. Test any backup encoder or network path you have actually configured; do not assume a backup exists merely because the main stream starts successfully. YouTube’s network recommendations emphasize testing and monitoring stream health.
Protect the YouTube stream key
YouTube describes a stream key as functioning like the stream’s password and address. Do not expose it in screenshots, public tutorials, or shared documents. If you believe it has been compromised, reset it in YouTube Live Control Room and update the encoder or destination that uses it. YouTube’s stream-key guidance covers key handling.

Plan recording and the cost of leaving the server active
Do not rely on a single automatic archive for a continuous broadcast
YouTube’s encoder help says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. A genuinely uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast does not fit that stated under-12-hour condition, so plan separate recording and video-on-demand needs rather than expecting one automatic archive to capture the entire run. Check current YouTube behavior before launch, since platform rules can change. YouTube’s encoder-stream help explains its archive guidance.
Check Muvi’s active-server charges
Muvi’s product FAQ lists a charge of $0.50 per hour while its dedicated live-streaming server is active, as stated on the page accessed October 3, 2026. That is a per-active-hour figure, not a complete estimate of your total plan or infrastructure bill; confirm current subscription terms, included usage, and any other charges directly with Muvi before leaving a server on continuously. Muvi’s product information is the place to verify current commercial terms.
