You can manage a cloud-hosted YouTube livestream from a phone, but the phone is not necessarily sending the video. In an encoder or cloud-hosted setup, that service sends the feed; your phone can be used to configure the YouTube event, check its status and metrics, and manage chat. YouTube’s Live Control Room is the YouTube-side control point. The steps inside a cloud provider’s own dashboard depend on which provider you use.
First, decide what your phone is doing
YouTube treats mobile streaming and encoder-based streaming as separate ways to go live. A phone used for direct mobile streaming captures and sends the video. With an encoder or cloud-hosted stream, that system sends the video; the phone is a remote management device unless you deliberately use it as the camera too. See YouTube’s overview of live-streaming methods.
- Phone as camera and sender: Start a mobile livestream in YouTube’s mobile workflow. The phone captures video and audio and sends them to YouTube.
- Phone as manager: The cloud service or encoder sends the feed. Use YouTube Studio or Live Control Room on your phone for YouTube event controls and monitoring, and use the provider’s app or dashboard for its own controls.
- Phone as both: A mobile encoder app can capture and send video, while YouTube Studio or Live Control Room remains the place for YouTube-side event settings and monitoring. YouTube names Larix Broadcaster for iOS and Android as an encoder app example; its availability or compatibility with a particular cloud service is not guaranteed by that mention.
There is no single YouTube remote-control app that controls every third-party cloud provider. Check the provider’s current phone app or mobile-dashboard instructions for actions such as starting a cloud job, editing a playlist, or changing a scheduled run.
Check YouTube eligibility before configuring the event
For YouTube’s direct mobile livestream workflow, its current help page lists these requirements: at least 50 subscribers, channel verification, live streaming enabled, no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and a supported Android 8.0+ or iOS 8+ device. YouTube says enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours before it is available. Check the current mobile live-stream requirements, since platform requirements can change.

YouTube’s general live-stream guidance also requires channel verification and no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days for live streaming. Do not treat the mobile-only 50-subscriber rule as a universal requirement for every encoder or cloud-hosted workflow; confirm the requirements YouTube currently applies to your channel and chosen method in its general live-streaming guide. The India reference on YouTube’s mobile help page concerns Playables availability, not a separate India-specific live-stream eligibility rule.
Set up and manage an encoder or cloud-hosted stream
1. Create or schedule the YouTube event
Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room to create or schedule the event. Set the title, description, visibility, audience and other event details there. YouTube’s live settings guidance covers encoder and mobile streams; it does not apply to webcam streams in the same way. Review the available choices for comments and chat, latency, DVR and other stream settings in Manage live stream settings.

2. Find the server URL and stream key
In Live Control Room, get the YouTube server URL and stream key, then enter them in the encoder or cloud provider’s settings. YouTube describes the key as a password and address for the stream. Keep it private: do not share it in messages or show it in public screenshots. If it may have been exposed, an owner or manager can reset it in Live Control Room; update the encoder or provider with the new key before sending video. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup instructions and stream-key guidance.
3. Choose RTMPS when the sender supports it
YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP over TLS/SSL. If your encoder or provider supports RTMPS, choose the RTMPS server URL shown in Live Control Room and pair it with the stream key. The sender must support the protocol; selecting an RTMPS URL does not add support to software that lacks it. See YouTube’s RTMPS instructions.

4. Send the feed, preview it and go live
- Start the stream or scheduled broadcast in the provider’s dashboard, or start sending from your encoder.
- Wait for YouTube to receive the feed and show a preview in Live Control Room. Check that picture and audio are present before going live to viewers.
- Select Go live in Live Control Room when you are ready. Starting the sender and making the event public are distinct actions in this workflow.
- When finished, select End stream in YouTube, then stop the encoder or cloud job. If your provider documents a different shutdown order for its service, follow its instructions.
The phone can open YouTube’s controls, but the exact buttons and layout vary by browser, app and provider. Do not assume that the cloud provider’s start/stop controls appear inside YouTube Studio.
Monitor the stream from your phone
YouTube’s Android metrics guidance lists stream status and error guidance, concurrent viewers, duration, live chat messages and likes. Its computer guidance documents Live Control Room stream health and analytics including chat rate, views and average view duration. The exact metrics visible in a phone browser or app may differ from the desktop view; consult the relevant Android metrics help and computer metrics help.

- Use stream status and error guidance to spot a problem with the incoming feed.
- Watch chat and viewer metrics if you need to moderate or understand activity while live.
- For provider-specific information—such as whether a cloud job is still running—check the provider’s own dashboard. YouTube metrics do not replace the provider’s controls.
Troubleshoot common control and connection problems
- You cannot start a mobile stream: Check channel verification, whether live streaming is enabled, restrictions in the previous 90 days, the mobile subscriber threshold and supported phone OS. If you just enabled mobile streaming, YouTube says availability may take up to 24 hours.
- YouTube does not receive video: Confirm the cloud job or encoder is running and that it has the correct YouTube server URL and current stream key. Check the provider’s status and YouTube’s preview before selecting Go live.
- The stream stopped after a key reset: Replace the old key in the encoder or provider dashboard with the new one. A reset invalidates the old credential.
- You see a stream error on your phone: Use the stream status and error guidance available in YouTube’s mobile metrics view, then check the sender’s dashboard for its side of the connection. A phone view may not expose all desktop stream-health details.
- You cannot find a provider control in YouTube Studio: YouTube manages the YouTube event; the provider manages its cloud job. Open the provider’s documented app or dashboard for provider-specific controls.
