Use YouTube Live Control Room to set the stream’s overall title and description. Those fields describe the broadcast, not each changing song. If viewers need to see the current track while the playlist runs, add a text graphic in your encoder or playout workflow and update it with each track. YouTube’s reviewed documentation does not describe a built-in per-track “now playing” ticker.
Choose where each kind of metadata belongs
There are three distinct jobs: identify the broadcast, localize stable video information, and show the changing song. Choose the text channel accordingly.
| Display approach | Best for | What it does not do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube Live Control Room title and description | Stable context for the whole broadcast, such as the radio stream’s language, genre, or schedule. | They are broadcast-level fields, not a documented track-by-track display. |
| Localized video title and description | Stable translations of the video’s title and description for viewers using other languages. | They do not provide dynamic localization of the currently playing song. YouTube’s localization guidance describes translated video metadata, not a live now-playing ticker. |
| Rendered on-video graphic | Keeping the current song visible in the video image as tracks change. | This requires an encoder or playout workflow; YouTube’s cited references do not endorse a specific overlay tool or guarantee its script rendering. |
| Live captions | Making spoken or sung audio accessible through captions. | Captions are not structured song credits. For the embedded 608/708 workflow described by YouTube, only one caption track is currently supported. See YouTube’s live-caption guidance. |
The practical setup for a radio stream is therefore a stable title and description in YouTube plus a changing on-video graphic if the current track must remain visible. Adding regional-language title information to a localized video field can help with stable video discovery, but it is not a substitute for a track display.
Decide what to show for each song
Keep the original regional-language title and artist spelling intact. A clear proposed order is song title, artist, then language or region. Add composer or label when known and useful. This is an editorial convention, not a YouTube-required template.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Preserve the original script and spelling rather than silently replacing them with a transliteration or translation.
- If helpful to your audience, show a transliteration or short translated gloss as an additional line, clearly separate from the original.
- Use consistent punctuation and ordering so viewers can identify the title and artist quickly.
YouTube’s Content Manager guidance lists title, artist, record label, and ISRC for sound recordings, and title and writer for compositions. That guidance concerns partner asset metadata; it does not require every field to appear on a public on-screen graphic. Read the Content Manager metadata guidance.
Set the broadcast’s overall title and description
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to enter Live Control Room.
- Set the broadcast title and description to explain the stream as a whole. Include stable details—such as its regional-language focus—rather than a song title that will become outdated when the playlist changes.
- Review the displayed text before the broadcast begins. YouTube says the broadcast title and description can be edited through Live Control Room. See YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance.
If a system must update the broadcast fields programmatically, YouTube’s Live Streaming API represents a broadcast as a YouTube video and exposes title and description in its liveBroadcast resource. Updating those fields requires OAuth authorization. The API is an option for broadcast metadata, but the cited documentation does not establish it as a native per-track ticker. Review the broadcast resource.

Use the API carefully if your workflow updates broadcast metadata
The API update request can set the title and description, but YouTube warns that fields omitted from an update request may be deleted if they already have values. Preserve every field you intend to keep when constructing the request. This matters especially if a track-change process modifies a broadcast field: an incomplete update could remove stable information.
- Authorize the application with OAuth for the channel and broadcast it needs to manage.
- Use the broadcast resource’s update method to set the intended title and description fields.
- Include existing values for fields you want retained; do not assume omitted fields remain unchanged.
- Test with a non-critical broadcast or workflow before relying on automatic changes during a live event.
See the API update method and its request behavior. If the goal is to keep changing song text visible inside the picture, a graphics layer in the encoder or playout workflow is the more direct implementation approach; verify the selected tool’s update support rather than assuming the API provides an overlay.

Add a changing on-video song graphic
A rendered graphic is an implementation choice, not a YouTube feature specified by the cited documentation. Choose an encoder or playout system that can display text over the video and change that text in step with the playlist. Confirm the product supports your intended workflow before building the full stream around it.
- Prepare a representative set of song records with the original title and artist spelling, plus any optional language, transliteration, composer, or label fields you plan to show.
- Build a graphic layout with a readable text area and a consistent order. Avoid forcing long titles into a single line if doing so makes the script difficult to read.
- Connect the playlist or operator workflow to the graphic so the displayed text changes at the intended track boundary. The reviewed YouTube references do not specify how an external tool should do this.
- Preview the exact regional script and fonts in the production encoder or graphics tool. Check that letter shaping, conjuncts, diacritics, punctuation, and line breaks appear as intended.
- Watch the preview on a phone and on a television-sized display. Confirm the text remains legible and is not cropped or obscured.
- Run several track changes, including a long title and a title with optional transliteration, before going live.
These checks are practical safeguards, not a guarantee from YouTube about the behavior of third-party software. Rendering support depends on the selected tool, its fonts, and the output workflow.

Keep video localization separate from now-playing text
YouTube’s video API supports language-keyed localized title and description values. YouTube says translated video titles and descriptions may appear in search for viewers who speak that language. Use localization for stable video-level information; the cited sources do not establish that it can display a different localized title for every currently playing track. See the video API localization fields.

Displaying the title, artist, composer, or label does not grant permission to stream the recording. YouTube’s live terms place responsibility on the provider to have the necessary worldwide rights, including music rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may interrupt a stream; even a licensed stream can be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel. Troubleshoot metadata that is missing or wrong
- The song graphic never changes: Check whether the playlist or operator workflow actually sends a track-change update to the graphics layer. Test multiple transitions before the event; the YouTube broadcast title and description do not automatically serve as a documented now-playing feed.
- Regional characters look incorrect: Check the font and script rendering in the actual encoder or playout output, not just in the text editor. Try a different supported font or layout and preview on the intended playback sizes.
- Text is clipped or hard to read: Test long titles and line breaks, then adjust the layout and preview at phone and television-sized playback.
- An API edit removes existing information: Inspect the update request. YouTube warns that fields omitted from an update may be deleted when they already have values; include values that should remain.
- A localized title does not change with the song: Localization applies to video title and description values, not a documented dynamic track display. Use a changing graphic for now-playing text.
- The stream is interrupted despite showing accurate credits: Metadata is not proof of streaming rights. Check the channel’s permissions and rights-owner arrangements; YouTube may scan and interrupt live streams.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube radio stream built from uploaded recordings, StreamNeo keeps the stream running from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays the uploaded videos; it does not go live from a camera. Its automatic recovery can restart the stream if YouTube drops it.
Every slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo pricing for other billing lengths and terms.
StreamNeo manages cloud playout, not your changing song graphic. If on-screen now-playing text is essential, use a verified graphics workflow and confirm it can receive track changes while the stream runs. Start your free StreamNeo day.
