For example, keep weekly documentary discussions separate from event livestreams. You can do this from a replay’s watch page or manage playlists in YouTube Studio; no extra software is needed.
Create a playlist for each livestream series
Use a distinct, accurate name for each collection, such as “Weekly Documentary Q&A Replays” or “Festival Livestreams.” A playlist is an organizational collection of videos; it does not create a replay or archive a livestream that is unavailable.
From a replay’s watch page on desktop
- Open the available livestream replay or highlights video on YouTube.
- Select More → Save → Create new playlist.
- Enter a title that clearly identifies the series, choose the playlist’s visibility, and create it. YouTube’s desktop help describes these controls: create and manage playlists.
- Check YouTube’s confirmation message to see which playlist received the video. If it went to the wrong collection, open Save again and select the correct playlist.
Add later replays to the right playlist
- Open the next replay for the same series.
- Select More → Save, then choose the existing playlist for that series.
- Check the confirmation message. Repeat with a different playlist for each distinct livestream series.
On Android
Open the video, select More → Save → New playlist, enter a name, and choose privacy. You can also create a playlist from the You tab. After saving, the app provides a way to change where the video was saved. Labels can vary as YouTube updates its app, so look for Save or Add to playlist if the wording differs. Choose who can see each playlist
Set visibility when you create the playlist, and check the setting before sharing it. Choose private for personal organization; for a collection you want others to access, choose a visibility setting that permits that access. Playlist visibility determines who can find or view the collection, so make sure it matches your intended audience. YouTube explains playlist privacy in its playlist help and privacy settings guidance.

Manage playlists in YouTube Studio
Channel owners can create and maintain collections from Studio instead of saving videos one at a time from watch pages.
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → New playlist.
- Set the title, description, visibility, and arrangement; add the relevant videos and create the playlist.
- To manage an existing collection, open Content, find the playlist, and edit its details or ordering. YouTube’s playlist management instructions for Studio cover these controls.
YouTube notes that channels have a daily limit on how many public playlists they can create, and access to advanced features can increase that limit. The help page does not state a fixed number. If you reach a limit, check the channel’s feature eligibility rather than assuming playlist creation is unavailable permanently.

Put videos in a useful order
On desktop, open the playlist and drag videos up or down to reorder them. You can also manage arrangement in YouTube Studio. For documentary series, a chronological order may help viewers follow events; for standalone streams, placing the newest replay first may make recent coverage easier to find. Choose an order that fits the collection.
When a livestream replay is missing
Find the replay or highlights video on the channel before trying to add it. A playlist can organize videos available on YouTube; it cannot restore a stream that was not captured. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. This is not a guarantee that every shorter stream will appear as a replay. YouTube recommends keeping a local backup: Archive live streams. A local recording can preserve a copy, but it does not automatically create or organize a YouTube playlist.

Ordinary playlists and official series playlists
Ordinary playlists are enough to keep separate livestream collections. For a recurring show whose videos are intended to be watched together, channel owners can optionally designate a playlist as an official series playlist. YouTube says videos in a series may be featured or recommended when a viewer watches another video in that series. The feature requires a verified account; a video can appear in only one series playlist; and the channel must have uploaded and have rights to each included video. See YouTube’s series playlist requirements.
Use titles and descriptions that accurately reflect the videos in each collection. YouTube prohibits misleading playlist titles or descriptions, and its Community Guidelines apply to playlists and their contents: YouTube playlist policies.
