In OBS, turn on Loop for a single Media Source, or use a VLC Video source with Loop Playlist enabled for several clips. If the video should play only once, prepare a separate holding or narration scene and switch to it before the clip ends. A media source finishing does not itself determine whether the YouTube broadcast ends; manage the broadcast separately in YouTube Live Control Room.
Choose what viewers should see when the story ends
Decide whether the video should repeat, move to another clip, or give way to a live or holding scene. Set that behavior in OBS before going live, then check the broadcast controls separately in YouTube Live Control Room.
Repeat one video
Add the file as an OBS Media Source and enable Loop. OBS documents support for common video formats including MP4, MOV, MKV, and WebM, as well as audio files. When playback reaches the end, the source starts the file again.
Cycle through several videos
Add a VLC Video source, build its playlist, and enable Loop Playlist. OBS requires VLC to be installed for this source. Choose whether the playlist should play in a fixed order or shuffle; for a children’s story session, a fixed order makes the sequence predictable.

Switch to a deliberate ending or pause
If repeating the story would feel abrupt or confusing, prepare another scene—for example, a storyteller reading live, a calm holding card, or a planned transition. OBS can hide a Media Source when playback ends, so do not rely on the clip’s final frame as the fallback. Switch scenes before playback finishes.
Set up the playback in OBS
- For one clip: in your scene, add a Media Source, select the video file, and enable Loop if you want it to repeat.
- For multiple clips: add a VLC Video source, add the files to its playlist, choose fixed order or shuffle, and enable Loop Playlist. Install VLC if it is not already installed.
- For a one-time clip: create the fallback scene in advance and decide when to switch to it. Do not assume the final frame will remain visible after playback ends.
- Before starting the stream: preview the scene or sequence and confirm that the selected source and intended end behavior are correct.
Keep the YouTube broadcast state separate
OBS media playback and the YouTube livestream are separate controls. YouTube Live Control Room provides controls for managing the live stream, including auto-start and auto-stop settings. Check those settings and verify the stream in Live Control Room; a clip reaching its end does not, by itself, tell you whether the broadcast should continue.

If you mean a video embedded in a page
For an embedded YouTube player rather than a local video played through OBS, Google’s IFrame Player API documents a loop parameter for repeating one video when the playlist parameter is set to that same video’s ID. This applies to the embedded player, not to OBS media-source or encoder settings.
Account for children’s audience rules
- YouTube says creators must be at least 16 to livestream.
- YouTube says streams featuring 13–15-year-olds who are not visibly accompanied by an adult may have live chat disabled, and the account may temporarily lose access to live chat or other features.
- For a stream designated made for kids, YouTube disables live chat and live chat replay. Personalized ads are disabled on live streams and Premieres, too. Plan interaction and monetization around those limits.
