Then verify and enable the YouTube channel, route a rights-cleared audio/video source into an encoder, test the stream and its recovery plan, and arrange ongoing monitoring. A continuous stream is an operational commitment as well as a technical setup: YouTube does not guarantee that one event will run or archive indefinitely.
Choose the kind of 24/7 channel you are building
A live Gurdwara broadcast and a continuous playlist are different productions. Be clear with viewers about which one you provide; do not present a prerecorded loop as a live view of a Gurdwara.
Live Gurdwara feed
Arrange permission to carry the venue’s audio and, if used, video. Identify a responsible person who can set up and monitor the computer or encoder and respond to faults. SikhNet’s live-broadcast requirements call for an audio output from the Gurdwara sound system and a person responsible for the broadcast.
Prerecorded programming
Obtain permission for each recording and performance, then schedule or loop the cleared material using an encoder or hosting service. A playlist can simplify scheduling, but it does not remove rights obligations or the need to monitor the stream.

SGPC publishes an official live kirtan page and has announced approval to broadcast Gurbani through its own web and social channels. That is an example of an organization broadcasting its own authorized programming, not permission for another channel to relay its recordings.
Check YouTube eligibility before launch
- Verify the YouTube channel and enable live streaming in YouTube Studio. YouTube says first-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do this before the planned launch.
- Confirm the account has no live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days.
- Choose who can access the channel and its stream settings. Restrict the stream key to trusted operators; it is a credential that lets an encoder send video to your channel.
Build the audio and video path
Take a clean feed from the venue
Use an output from the Gurdwara sound system as the audio source. Check the connector type and signal level, and confirm the stream feed can be taken without disrupting the in-house PA. Connect it directly if the existing output is suitable; add an audio interface or mixer only if needed to adapt connections, manage levels, or combine sources. A mixer is not a universal requirement.

If you include a camera, frame the scene respectfully and verify that the people and activities shown may be broadcast. Keep the capture and audio path simple enough that an operator can diagnose it quickly.
Choose an encoder you can support
You can use computer software or a standalone hardware encoder. Decide based on operator familiarity, support, and how the system will be restored if it fails. YouTube supports encoder workflows and describes professional-grade hardware encoders as an option for higher-production setups; neither category guarantees unattended reliability.

Create the YouTube stream and connect the encoder
- In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live stream and open its encoder or stream settings.
- Copy the server URL and stream key shown for that stream into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Keep the key private, and do not publish it or share it outside the trusted operating team.
- Set the encoder to use the intended audio and video sources. Start the encoder, then check the incoming preview and stream health in YouTube Live Control Room before making the watch page public.
- When appropriate, test using a private or unlisted stream first. Open the watch page on a separate device and network, confirm that the sound is audible and the picture is moving as expected, and verify any local recording if you intend to keep one.
Set video, audio and network settings
YouTube’s encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265 and AV1 for video ingestion, AAC or MP3 for audio, and recommends a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Its bitrate recommendations vary by resolution, frame rate and codec. As one example, the guidance lists 10 Mbps video for H.264 at 1080p and 30 fps. Treat that as a starting value for that specific format, not a universal setting; consult YouTube’s current encoder settings for your chosen output.
- Choose a resolution and frame rate your source and encoder can sustain consistently.
- Use the bitrate recommendation for the selected resolution, frame rate and codec, then test the actual feed.
- Measure available upload bandwidth under realistic conditions. YouTube recommends bandwidth sufficient for the total stream bitrate plus 20% headroom. Shared networks can limit the bandwidth available to your stream.
- Use a reliable wired connection where available, and monitor stream health during testing and after launch.
Clear rights before you broadcast
YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content, including another live broadcast. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder or interrupt it; continued use may lead to a temporary interruption or termination, and a strike can also terminate a stream.

A license does not necessarily prevent an interruption. YouTube says a rights holder must add the channel to its Content ID allowlist for licensed third-party content to avoid this particular issue; even licensed streams can be interrupted if the channel is not allowlisted. Ask the relevant rights holder to allowlist the channel when required.
For each performance and recording, document who controls the recording and broadcast permissions, which platforms and territories are covered, and whether the rights holder will allowlist the channel. YouTube’s enforcement guidance does not determine the legal status of a particular Gurbani performance or recording. Ask rights holders and, where necessary, qualified counsel about the specific use and jurisdiction.

Plan monitoring, backup and archive handling
A 24/7 channel needs a named person or system to notice outages, restore the encoder and check the viewer-facing page. Before launch, document who controls the stream key, who responds after hours, what happens during power or internet failures, and how backup playback begins. Run a supervised burn-in and test the handoff before depending on unattended operation; platform guidance does not establish a single guaranteed architecture for continuous streaming.
Test recovery instead of assuming it works
YouTube recommends testing encoder failover by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet connection and checking that playback rolls over to the backup. Confirm the result from the viewer’s side, not only in the encoder interface. If no backup encoder or operator is available, record that limitation in the operating plan and decide how quickly someone can intervene.
Do not assume a 24/7 event will archive indefinitely
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its cited encoder guidance does not establish archive behavior for a continuous stream longer than that. If recordings matter, consider scheduling shorter events and test the archive behavior in your own Studio workflow; separately confirm that any local recording is being written and has enough storage.

Troubleshoot common failures
- Live streaming is unavailable: Verify the channel and enable live streaming in YouTube Studio in advance; first-time activation may take up to 24 hours. Check for a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days.
- YouTube receives no signal: Confirm the encoder is running, the correct stream URL and key are entered, and the selected audio/video sources are active. If needed, generate or select the intended stream settings again in Studio and update the encoder.
- Playback buffers or stream health is poor: Measure upload capacity while the stream is running, reduce the total stream bitrate if capacity is insufficient, and preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom. Check whether other devices or applications are using the shared connection.
- Audio is silent, distorted or too low: Check the venue output, selected encoder input, connector and signal level. Test the feed in the encoder preview and adjust the source or interface gain without disrupting the Gurdwara PA.
- Stream is interrupted over third-party content: Check YouTube’s live copyright notice and contact the rights holder. If you have permission, ask whether the channel must be added to the Content ID allowlist.
- Backup playback does not take over: Repeat the failure test and check backup encoder configuration, network connection and viewer-side playback. Assign an operator to intervene if automatic rollover is unavailable.
- No archive appears for a long event: YouTube documents automatic archiving for streams under 12 hours, not indefinite continuous events. Check Studio and use shorter scheduled events if archive handling is essential.
