Choose the streaming architecture first
The main distinction is between running your own encoder on a VM and using a managed media service. A VM can run an encoder that pushes one stream to YouTube. Managed services can add encoding, transcoding, packaging, or delivery functions, which may be useful for more involved workflows but bring additional configuration and cost components.
VM plus encoder
This is the direct route for a continuous music feed: create a Linux VM, install and configure an encoder, and provide YouTube with the resulting live feed. The VM hosts the process; it does not make the broadcast inherently uninterrupted. You remain responsible for starting the encoder, monitoring it, and handling interruptions.

Managed media pipeline
AWS documents a workflow using MediaLive for real-time encoding, MediaPackage or MediaStore for outputs, and CloudFront for distribution. Google Cloud Live Stream API transcodes live linear video into delivery formats. These are broader media-processing options than simply pushing one encoder feed to YouTube; choose them when their processing and output capabilities suit your workflow, not just because the stream should run all day.
Google documents an important lifecycle constraint: a Live Stream API channel that remains active for 24 hours may be restarted. Design around that behavior rather than treating the service as a perpetual channel that needs no intervention.
Compare the relevant services
The VM choices below are general-purpose infrastructure candidates, not tested rankings. The managed services are separate architectural options, not interchangeable VM brands.

A 24/7 stream keeps infrastructure in use continuously, so estimate the exact configuration in the region you plan to use before committing. No single monthly total is meaningful without a specified VM, region, video workload, and reliability design.
- Include VM compute time, storage, public IP charges where applicable, and data transfer.
- Add monitoring and any managed-media components in a pipeline design.
- Check current provider calculators and pricing pages for the chosen region and configuration. AWS bills on-demand instance usage by time consumed; Google VM pricing varies by machine type and region; Azure notes standard egress charges.
- Do not treat a small example VM price as proof that the configuration can handle your encoder workload, and do not use old illustrative hourly estimates as current quotes.
Plan the encoder and YouTube connection
Meet YouTube’s live-stream requirements
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-stream restriction during the preceding 90 days to enable live streaming. Encoder streaming is intended for setups that use overlays, graphics, and production equipment; it is one available method, not a requirement for every music channel. Check eligibility in YouTube Studio before configuring cloud infrastructure.

Use the ingestion method your workflow supports
YouTube documents RTMP as a common ingestion path and HLS as an option for compatible encoders. For either path, configure the encoder with the YouTube stream credentials and a stable, properly tested output. Protect the stream key as a credential: anyone who obtains it may be able to send video to your channel.
HLS is not necessary for every meditation stream. It uses HTTPS ingestion, a rolling playlist, and specific segment settings; because it sends segments rather than a continuous stream, it has higher latency than RTMP. Choose HLS only when your encoder and delivery requirements call for it, and follow YouTube’s current HLS configuration guidance rather than applying RTMP assumptions.
Make continuity an operating plan
A cloud VM alone does not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast. Before launch, decide how the encoder will restart after a crash, how you will detect a stalled or disconnected feed, and how you will restore service after a host or network interruption. Test the recovery process, including stream-key handling and any required YouTube restart steps. For Google’s managed Live Stream API, include the documented possible restart after 24 hours of active channel time in that plan.

Clear music rights before going live
Cloud hosting does not change YouTube’s rights requirements. YouTube’s livestream terms say: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.”
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. A detected match can cause the stream to be replaced by a placeholder, interrupted, or terminated if the material remains or a copyright or Community Guidelines strike applies. For licensed third-party music, YouTube instructs creators to ask the rights holder to add the channel to its Content ID allowlist; having a license alone may not prevent an interruption.
- Confirm that your license covers livestreaming, the territories where the stream is available, archives or replays, and your intended monetization.
- Keep the license and permissions documentation accessible.
- Ask the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting for your channel before relying on the music.
These are practical precautions, not legal advice; review the actual license and resolve rights questions with the rights holder.
