YouTube’s documented encoder workflow uses its server URL and stream key; the sources available here do not establish that you can paste a SHOUTcast URL into YouTube and relay it directly.
What you need before you start
- A computer that can play your SHOUTcast station feed and run OBS.
- The station’s playable stream URL and any player-specific settings you need to access it.
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so enable it ahead of your planned broadcast. See YouTube’s encoder instructions.
- A visual you are authorized to use, such as a station logo, still image, or text scene.
- The necessary rights and permissions for rebroadcasting the station’s music, spoken content, and artwork on YouTube.
OBS and an appropriate audio-capture source are enough for this workflow; the source material does not establish a need for dedicated hardware.
Set up the YouTube stream
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create or select an encoder stream.
- Copy YouTube’s stream server URL and stream key into your encoder configuration. Keep the key private: anyone with it may be able to send a signal to your stream.
- Use YouTube’s current encoder settings page to confirm the supported ingest protocol and recommendations for your broadcast. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Its stereo-audio recommendations include AAC or MP3, 44.1 kHz, and 128 Kbps. Treat these as YouTube recommendations, not guarantees that every station feed or OBS configuration will sound correct. See YouTube’s encoder settings guidance.
Build the OBS scene and capture the station audio
Add a visual scene
In OBS, create a scene and add a station-owned logo, still image, text, or other authorized visual. OBS supports image and text sources, as well as browser and media sources. This encoder workflow sends a video scene along with the radio audio; do not assume an audio-only encoder signal will satisfy the intended YouTube broadcast.
Play the SHOUTcast feed locally
Open the station feed in an audio player or browser on the production computer. Confirm that the expected station audio is audible before routing it into OBS. Keep the stream URL and any player-specific configuration available in case the player stops or needs to be reopened.

#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose an audio-capture method for your operating system
- Windows: OBS Application Audio Capture is supported on Windows 10 version 2004 or later and Windows 11. Add the source and select the player that is playing the station.
- macOS: OBS Studio 30 provides macOS Audio Capture on macOS 13 and later; OBS’s Screen Capture source can also capture audio. The exact source options depend on the installed OBS version and macOS version.
- Linux: Use an appropriate ALSA or PulseAudio capture source for the system’s audio routing.
- If application capture is unavailable: Capture desktop or output audio instead. Avoid capturing the station through both an application source and the same global Desktop Audio source, which can cause duplicate or echoing audio.
Watch the OBS audio mixer while the station plays. Its meter should move; check that the source is not muted and that the signal is not clipping. OBS documents its capture options in the Application Audio Capture Guide and Audio Sources guide.
Configure OBS, test the signal, and go live
- In OBS, choose YouTube integration or enter the server URL and stream key you obtained in Live Control Room. Do not put the SHOUTcast station URL in YouTube’s server URL field: YouTube’s documented encoder setup calls for YouTube’s ingest details, and the sources cited here do not document direct SHOUTcast URL ingest.
- Set the audio format and bitrate in line with YouTube’s current recommendations and the capabilities of the station signal. For stereo, YouTube recommends 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps; verify the current settings guidance rather than assuming an old preset remains current.
- Start the OBS output as required for the selected YouTube stream. Use a representative test with the station playing and the visual scene visible.
- Check YouTube’s Live Control Room preview and stream health. Confirm both the picture and audible station audio before making the broadcast public or promoting it.
- When the preview is ready, click Go Live in Live Control Room.
End the broadcast and check its archive
Stop the encoder and end the broadcast in Live Control Room when the scheduled stream is over. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Check the resulting archive and listen to it before sharing the replay; this is a useful way to catch audio routing, silence, or visual problems that were missed during the live preview.

Troubleshoot common problems
- YouTube shows no incoming signal: Check that OBS is sending, then confirm that the YouTube server URL and stream key are the ones for the selected stream. Do not substitute the SHOUTcast feed URL for YouTube’s ingest URL.
- The preview has video but no station audio: Confirm the feed still plays locally, the correct application or output source is selected, the OBS mixer meter moves, and the source is not muted.
- The audio echoes or sounds doubled: Check whether the same player is captured through both Application Audio Capture and Desktop Audio. Disable one route and test again.
- The audio is distorted: Look for clipping in the OBS mixer and reduce the captured level if needed. Recheck the result in YouTube’s preview rather than relying only on local playback.
- The stream is not available for a first broadcast: If live streaming has just been enabled, YouTube says initial activation may take up to 24 hours. Allow for that delay before the planned start.
- The station feed stops during the broadcast: Verify that the local player is still receiving the station and that OBS is still capturing it. The documented workflow here captures playback on the production computer; it does not establish a server-side relay from the SHOUTcast URL.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is a continuous YouTube stream of uploaded recordings rather than relaying a live SHOUTcast feed, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera or a SHOUTcast feed. Nothing has to stay on at home; each slot streams uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Start at StreamNeo’s free trial signup.
