To loop a prerecorded sound bath in a YouTube Live broadcast, play the recording in OBS Studio as a Media Source, enable Loop in its properties, then send OBS’s output to YouTube through an encoder stream. The repeat happens in OBS before the feed reaches YouTube. YouTube’s player Loop command only repeats a regular video or playlist for an individual viewer; it does not make that content a live broadcast.
Choose the right kind of loop
| Method | Where the repetition happens | What viewers get |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube player Loop | In each viewer’s YouTube player | A regular video or playlist that repeats for that viewer |
| OBS Media Source Loop with a YouTube encoder stream | In OBS, before the feed is sent to YouTube | A live broadcast containing the repeated recording |
If your goal is simply to replay a sound bath while watching, use YouTube’s player Loop feature. To appear in YouTube Live, use an encoder workflow and loop the source in OBS.
What you need before going live
- A YouTube channel eligible for live streaming. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Check YouTube’s live-streaming requirements if you cannot start a broadcast.
- OBS Studio installed on a computer, plus a supported local sound-bath file. OBS Media Sources support local audio and video files; available properties can vary by OBS version. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
- Access to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room to create or select a stream and configure the encoder connection. Your stream key tells the encoder where to send its feed and allows YouTube to accept it. Keep the key private.
- A recording you have the rights to use. YouTube’s copyright rules still apply to live broadcasts; looping a recording does not change its rights status.
Set up the loop in OBS and connect YouTube Live
- Confirm channel eligibility. Sign in to the channel you intend to use and confirm live streaming is available. If the channel is not verified or has an active restriction, resolve that before planning the session.
- Create an OBS scene. In OBS, add a scene for the broadcast. Add the recording as a Media Source and select the sound-bath file in the source properties.
- Enable the repeat. In the Media Source properties, turn on Loop. The file should restart after playback finishes. Check the OBS preview and listen to the audio so you can catch an incorrect file, silence, clipping, or an unwanted gap before viewers join.
- Configure the YouTube encoder connection. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select a stream. Follow the setup instructions for the connection protocol you choose, then enter the stream key in OBS’s stream configuration. YouTube lists OBS among encoders for HLS output; HLS settings are protocol-specific, so use them only if you select HLS. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Check the Live Control Room preview before starting. Start the encoder feed and wait for YouTube’s preview. Confirm that the picture or audio is reaching YouTube, that the event is accessible as intended, and that the sound level is suitable. YouTube recommends setting up encoder streams in advance and monitoring audio and video quality during the event; see YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- Start the live broadcast and monitor it. Use the Live Control Room controls to start the event when the preview is ready. Keep an eye on both the OBS output and YouTube’s stream health and audio/video during the session.
- Plan the ending and archive. Decide when to stop the event rather than assuming it can run indefinitely. YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, recommends making a local archive backup, and warns that streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. Review YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance and make a local recording if preserving the full session matters.
What to check for a sound bath
Audio continuity
Listen through the point where the file restarts. A loop setting repeats the source, but it cannot remove a pause, abrupt ending, or level change already present in the recording. If the transition is distracting, edit the source file into a seamless loop before adding it to OBS.
Rights and audience expectations
Use audio and visuals you created, licensed, or otherwise have permission to broadcast. A recording being available online does not by itself grant permission to rebroadcast it. Describe the session accurately so viewers understand that the live event is a prerecorded recording being played on repeat.

Duration and preservation
For sessions approaching YouTube’s 12-hour archive caveat, arrange a local backup and confirm that your computer has enough available storage. If an uninterrupted recording is essential, do not rely solely on YouTube’s automatic archive.
Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The recording stops instead of restarting | Loop is not enabled on the Media Source, or the wrong source is playing | Open the source properties, verify Loop is enabled, and test playback through the end of the file. |
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed | Incorrect stream configuration, key, or protocol selection; the channel may also lack live-stream eligibility | Recheck the Live Control Room’s current encoder instructions and stream key, confirm the OBS connection protocol matches, and verify channel eligibility. |
| The preview is silent or the audio is distorted | The wrong media file or audio level is being sent, or the source itself has a problem | Play the source in OBS, inspect its audio meter, and listen to the preview before starting the event. |
| The live stream is not publicly accessible | The event’s visibility or access settings do not match the intended audience | Review the event settings in YouTube Studio and confirm access in the Live Control Room before announcing it. |
| The archived stream is incomplete or missing | The broadcast exceeded 12 hours or the archive was not captured as expected | Keep a local recording for sessions that must be preserved and consult YouTube’s archive guidance before a long broadcast. |
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a prerecorded sound bath to keep looping on YouTube without leaving a home computer running, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload the recording, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It plays uploaded videos rather than broadcasting from a camera. Your computer and home connection do not have to stay on; the stream can use the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, then Monthly is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, or start the free first day.
