Before you schedule: check YouTube eligibility and your video
Confirm the channel can livestream
YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Its getting-started guidance also says livestreamers must be at least 16. Check the channel’s eligibility before preparing an event: YouTube live-streaming tips and YouTube’s getting-started guidance.
Prepare a supported file
StreamYard’s prerecorded-stream guide specifies MP4 with H.264 video encoding and a maximum bitrate of 10 Mbps. Check the video’s format, file size, bitrate, and duration against the limits for your plan before uploading. The guide lists upload caps and maximum video lengths by plan below; these product limits may change, so confirm the current details in StreamYard’s Pre-recorded Streaming guide.
Schedule the prerecorded YouTube broadcast in StreamYard
- Open the prerecorded workflow. In StreamYard, select Create → Live Stream → Pre-recorded video.
- Choose the video. Select Upload to pick a file from your computer, or choose a past StreamYard broadcast or recording.
- Select YouTube. Choose the YouTube destination for the broadcast. If the channel is not connected, follow StreamYard’s prompts to connect it; destination setup is covered in StreamYard’s YouTube scheduling guide.
- Set event details. Enter the title and description, then choose the broadcast date and time. Review the time zone shown in the scheduling interface before creating the event.
- Decide whether to schedule an announcement post. Use this option if you want a YouTube watch-page link to share before the video starts. StreamYard says the link is created when the announcement post is scheduled. Without one, the watch-page link is not available until the prerecorded broadcast goes live.
- Create the broadcast and verify its status. Confirm the event appears as scheduled in StreamYard. It starts at the selected time without you being online to start it and ends when playback finishes.
Know what the automated broadcast can—and cannot—do
This workflow schedules playback of a completed file; it is not a live StreamYard studio session. StreamYard says viewers’ comments remain visible on the destination platform, but you cannot bring comments on-screen during the automated broadcast. You also cannot control overlays or other media assets during playback, and prerecorded streams are no longer automatically saved to the StreamYard library. Keep your own copy of the original file.

Check StreamYard’s plan limits before uploading
StreamYard’s current help guide lists the following limits for prerecorded broadcasts. Features and plan limits can change; check the guide when scheduling.

How this differs from streaming through a YouTube encoder
For a finished video that should play automatically at a chosen time, StreamYard’s Pre-recorded video workflow is the documented file-upload path. A YouTube encoder workflow instead sends an outgoing feed: YouTube instructs creators to enter the server URL and stream key in their encoder, start the encoder, and check the preview in Live Control Room. Follow YouTube’s encoder instructions when you need to send an encoder feed; a stream key is not part of the StreamYard prerecorded upload steps described above.
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, but warns that streams over 12 hours may not be captured at all. It recommends keeping a local recording as a backup. Do not rely on a YouTube archive as the only copy of a long broadcast; see YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance.

Troubleshooting a scheduled prerecorded stream
- You cannot start or schedule a YouTube broadcast: check that the channel is verified and eligible for livestreaming, including the restriction history requirement. If the channel has not previously enabled live streaming, activation may take time; consult YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- The upload is rejected: confirm the video is MP4 with H.264 video encoding, bitrate no higher than 10 Mbps, and within the file-size and duration limits for your StreamYard plan.
- You cannot share the watch link yet: if you did not schedule an announcement post, StreamYard says the watch-page link appears when the prerecorded stream goes live. For an earlier share link, schedule an announcement post.
- You expected overlays or on-screen comments: the automated prerecorded broadcast does not provide studio control for those elements. They cannot be added or changed during the scheduled playback.
- You expected the recording in your StreamYard library: prerecorded streams are no longer automatically saved there. Keep the source video and make a separate local archive if you need one.
- You need a YouTube archive of a long stream: YouTube’s automatic archive guidance covers streams under 12 hours; streams over 12 hours may not be captured. Keep a local recording rather than assuming the archive will be available.
