How to Stream Pre-Recorded Videos to YouTube with Restream

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To schedule a pre-recorded video as a YouTube livestream with Restream, enable YouTube live streaming, prepare a compatible video file, then create a Pre-recorded livestream event in Restream and select YouTube. The event is designed to start automatically at its scheduled time; the main exception is an existing YouTube event with auto-start turned off, which requires you to click Go Live on YouTube.

Before you schedule: check the channel and video

Enable YouTube live streaming

Your YouTube channel must have live streaming enabled, and Restream’s YouTube connection requires authorization from the channel owner. For a first-time YouTube livestream, phone verification is required and activation may take 24 hours. Complete this ahead of your planned event. Restream’s YouTube connection guide explains the connection requirements.

Prepare a compatible video

Restream’s prerecorded-video requirements are MP4, MOV, M4V, or MKV; H.264 video; AAC audio; and a keyframe value of 2. It recommends 1080p at 30 or 60 FPS. If your file uses another format, convert it before uploading.

Restream also recommends constant bitrate (CBR). Variable-bitrate files may need re-encoding. Its guidance recommends adding 15–20 seconds of padding at the beginning and end so destination platforms have time to process the stream without cutting into important content. These are Restream’s published recommendations, not a guarantee that every file will work identically on every destination. See its video requirements.

  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Create a prerecorded event in Restream

  1. Open the event workflow. From the Restream home screen, choose Pre-recorded livestream, then choose Video.
  2. Select the recording. Choose a file already in Uploads or Recordings, or upload one from your computer or mobile device. If the file is near your account’s storage or size limit, check the limits shown in your account before proceeding.
  3. Enter the event details. Add a title, description, date, and time. Restream’s YouTube integration page lists a maximum title length of 100 characters and a maximum description length of 5,000 characters. Check Restream’s YouTube guidance for current integration details.
  4. Add a thumbnail if you want one. Restream’s guidance is 1280×720 pixels. Its event guide says thumbnails for free users display Restream branding.
  5. Choose YouTube as a destination. Toggle on the connected channel. During setup, you can set event privacy to public, private, or unlisted; channel settings may also include category and latency options.
  6. Optionally schedule an announcement. If you want an advance event post, select the checkbox while creating the event. Restream documents this option for YouTube and some other destinations; the option is selected during event creation.
  7. Create the event and verify its details. Review the event card, selected destination, date, time, and video before leaving the workflow. Restream’s standard prerecorded event is set to begin automatically at the scheduled time. You can open the event in Restream to monitor the stream and chat.

Restream’s current help page describes prerecorded events as available to all Restream users, while storage and video-size limits depend on the add-on tier. Its published table lists Premier with 2 hours of video library storage and a maximum of 1080p; Marathon with 4 hours and a maximum of 1080p; and Media with 12 hours and a maximum of 4K. Looping up to 10 times is listed for Marathon and Media. These are Restream’s published plan details accessed October 3, 2026, not a promise of current account entitlement; confirm the limits in your account before choosing a plan or scheduling a large file. See Restream’s prerecorded event guide.

If you already created the YouTube event

You can connect a prerecorded stream to an existing YouTube event rather than creating the event through Restream. Select the correct event in the Restream integration and check YouTube’s auto-start and auto-stop settings. If auto-start is disabled, start the stream in Restream and then manually click Go Live on YouTube. If auto-stop is disabled, you must end the stream on YouTube as well. Follow Restream’s instructions for an existing YouTube event.

Settings and YouTube policy checks

For the uploaded video itself, follow Restream’s file checklist: H.264, AAC, keyframe value 2, and one of the accepted containers. Its separate YouTube integration guidance describes YouTube streaming specs including H.264, CBR, resolution from 240p to 2160p, up to 60 FPS, bitrate that depends on resolution and frame rate, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval. Treat these general streaming specifications as distinct from the mandatory prerecorded-file checklist.

Before scheduling, make sure your channel has the rights to the video, music, and other material in the recording. YouTube’s livestreaming rules and copyright enforcement still apply when the footage was recorded earlier; scheduling it through Restream does not grant rights or guarantee monetization. For documentary channels in particular, verify permissions and licenses for archival footage, soundtrack, photographs, and third-party clips. Also consider whether a video that substantially reuses existing material complies with YouTube’s channel monetization policies; copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate questions.

When Restream is not the right fit for an always-on loop

Restream’s prerecorded event workflow is for scheduling a video event. If your goal instead is to keep a YouTube channel running continuously from uploaded recordings, a cloud looping service is a different workflow. StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It keeps the stream running without leaving your computer or home connection on, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.

Or let it run in the cloud

With StreamNeo, nothing has to stay on at home. Uploaded videos stream as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers. It includes 24/7 looping and playlists, 10 GB storage per slot pooled across active slots, and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, or start the free first day.
