The confirmed material establishes its Galaxy setting and the return of familiar characters, including Mario, Peach, Luigi, Bowser and Yoshi. How it compares with the 2023 film
The 2026 movie is a follow-up animated feature from the same broad Nintendo–Illumination partnership, with Universal Pictures again handling worldwide distribution. The clearest differences are its Galaxy-focused scope, its staged character reveals—including January’s Yoshi first look—and its 2026 release window. A complete, like-for-like critical comparison or plot comparison is not established by the available official announcements.
