Yes, but not universally. In India, a Samsung TV can show live television without a conventional set-top box through Samsung TV Plus, supported TVKey Cloud services, or a compatible antenna/tuner installation. TV Plus is free, ad-supported internet streaming. TVKey Cloud carries paid DishTV or GTPL television into selected Samsung models, but still needs the operator’s DTH antenna or cable feed, internet authentication and an active subscription.
What “without a set-top box” actually means
Removing the box does not remove every connection or service. Depending on the method, you may still need Wi-Fi or Ethernet, a coaxial cable, a satellite antenna, a Samsung account, operator activation and a paid plan.

These are separate technologies. A live stream in an OTT app is not the same as receiving your DTH operator’s complete channel package.
Samsung TV Plus: the easiest free option
Samsung TV Plus delivers a changing selection of free, advertising-supported channels over the internet. Samsung’s current India support guide lists TVs, projectors and monitors released in 2019 and later, although the exact model, software and region still determine availability. Open TV Plus from the Smart Hub or the TV Plus app on a supported device, sign in to Smart Hub when prompted and connect the TV to the internet. No DTH dish, cable subscription or external receiver is needed. Samsung describes the service as free, but it is a curated streaming lineup rather than a replacement for a full Tata Play, Airtel Digital TV or local-cable package.
Channel availability changes. Check Samsung’s current India channel list rather than relying on an old channel count. Samsung’s account requirements are explained in its Smart Hub support article.
TVKey Cloud: paid television without the physical receiver
TVKey Cloud, developed by Samsung and NAGRAVISION, lets an approved operator authenticate and decrypt television inside the TV. Samsung’s India support page currently documents two partners:

TVKey Cloud is not a universal Samsung feature. The TV still needs internet for authentication, a DTH antenna for DishTV or a cable feed for GTPL, a Samsung account and operator activation. - Finish the Samsung TV’s initial setup.
- Open the GTPL TVKey Cloud prompt, or install the GTPL TVKey Cloud app from the Samsung app store.
- Record the displayed TVKey ID.
- Contact GTPL for installation and activation. Samsung’s support page lists 9727633633; confirm the current number before calling.
- After GTPL creates the profile, connect the cable feed directly to the TV and use its TV interface.
GTPL’s terms require an active GTPL cable-TV subscription. Its advertised plans currently show FTA ₹160, Prime ₹270, Power Plus ₹385, Royal ₹450 and Royal HD ₹525 per month, inclusive of GST, but prices and availability vary by city and these figures are not guaranteed TVKey-specific rates. Check GTPL’s cable plans, consumer offerings and its Cloud TV Key terms.
DishTV activation
- Complete out-of-box setup.
- Open the DishTV Smart+ prompt, or install DishTV Smart+ from the Samsung app store.
- Note the TVKey ID shown by the app.
- Contact DishTV for installation and activation; Samsung lists 18003157189 on its support page.
- Connect the DTH antenna feed directly to the television after activation.
DishTV’s Smart+ TV Key page advertises a promotional month with 230+ channels and 19 OTT apps, while an FAQ on the same page refers to 16 apps. Treat both as promotional claims that can change. The page also says installation and activation are free, but an outdoor antenna may cost ₹500, and later recharges can be discounted by up to 48% depending on the chosen plan.

Using the TV’s tuner or CAM
Some Samsung models marketed as IDTVs can scan compatible terrestrial, cable or satellite signals, and supported CAM/View Card arrangements may provide conditional access. A satellite connector alone does not make every DTH service compatible: encryption, operator approval, CAM support, regional infrastructure and the exact model all matter. Scan an antenna or cable feed
- Connect the coaxial feed to the TV or One Connect Box.
- Set the source to TV or Live TV.
- Go to Settings → All Settings → General & Privacy → Broadcasting → Auto Program.
- Select Start and follow the on-screen choices. Some models call this Auto Tuning.
If the Broadcasting menu is unavailable, the TV may be using an HDMI set-top box or another external source. Samsung’s current channel instructions are at Auto Program/Auto Tuning support. Put the TV in Home mode, check the coaxial connection and confirm that the feed actually carries compatible channels. Samsung’s external-device guide explains source selection at this page.

Samsung’s current published India TVKey Cloud documentation names only DishTV and GTPL. It does not list Tata Play, Airtel Digital TV, Sun Direct or every local cable operator as TVKey Cloud partners. Those services may still work through their approved set-top box, an official Smart TV app or another supported arrangement, but that is not evidence of box-free TVKey compatibility.

Before ordering, verify the exact Samsung model number, the operator’s current supported-device list, service availability at the installation address, the required antenna or cable, and the plan’s recurring recharge terms.

- TV Plus: no TV subscription or DTH/cable feed, but reliable internet and a supported Samsung device are necessary.
- TVKey Cloud: continuing operator subscription, broadband for authentication, the physical DTH or cable feed and possible installation charges remain.
- Buying a TV: do not choose a Samsung model solely by screen size or brand; confirm TVKey Cloud support first.
- Promotions: introductory channel, app, installation or recharge offers are time-sensitive and should be checked on the operator’s live page.
Samsung’s announcement discusses potential savings, but figures such as ₹2,750 or ₹2,800 are promotional estimates, not guaranteed savings for every household. See Samsung’s announcement for the original context.
Common problems and the right fix
The TVKey app or prompt is missing
Check the exact model, India region, software updates and Smart Hub sign-in. An app appearing in the store still does not guarantee operator activation in your area.

The TVKey ID is not displayed
Finish initial setup, sign in to the Samsung account and reopen the operator app. If the ID remains absent, contact Samsung or the operator with the model number.
There is no picture after connecting the feed
Confirm that DishTV has a usable dish signal or GTPL has activated the cable connection, then check the coaxial connector and operator account. Internet authentication and the broadcast feed are separate requirements.
TV Plus will not open
Test internet access, complete Smart Hub sign-in and confirm that the device is a supported India model. The available channel catalogue can change without a TV software fault.
No channels are found during Auto Program
Use TV/Live TV as the source, leave Retail/Demo mode, reseat the coaxial cable and verify that the antenna or cable service is compatible. Auto Program cannot scan channels being delivered through an HDMI set-top box.
Which option should you choose?
- Choose TV Plus if free, ad-supported curated channels meet your needs and you have dependable broadband.
- Choose TVKey Cloud if you need paid linear channels, live in a supported DishTV or GTPL area, own a compatible Samsung model and accept the ongoing plan and installation requirements.
- Keep a conventional set-top box if your operator is not documented as a TVKey partner, your TV is unsupported, internet reliability is poor or you need a specific package unavailable through TVKey Cloud.
A Samsung TV can therefore replace the physical box in selected Indian setups, not replace every DTH or cable service. Confirm the model, operator, signal connection and current commercial terms before switching.
