TV Bro is the strongest lightweight sideloaded alternative, while BrowseHere is more appealing for web video, downloads, and advertised ad-blocking features. JioSphere and Browser TV are compatibility-dependent experiments rather than guaranteed replacements.
Check your exact model before installing anything. Traditional Fire OS devices can often run compatible Android-TV APKs, but Amazon’s newer Fire TV Stick 4K Select uses Vega OS according to an Amazon support-forum discussion; Android APK compatibility must not be assumed. Amazon’s device discussion also notes that alternative browsers may be unavailable on such hardware.
Firefox is not a current choice: Mozilla ended Fire TV support on April 30, 2021, and no longer provides Fire TV security updates. Mozilla’s support notice explains why old “best Firestick browser” lists are out of date.

“Works on Fire TV” can mean four different things: available in the Amazon Appstore, documented by the vendor for Fire TV, an Android-TV app that may run on Fire OS after sideloading, or an APK that merely installs without reliable compatibility. Treat those as separate levels of confidence.

1. Amazon Silk: best overall and safest default
What it does
Amazon describes Silk as its browser for Fire TV. It supports bookmarks, web video, downloads, private browsing, desktop/mobile site switching, and remote navigation. You can launch it by saying “Alexa, open Silk.” Amazon’s documentation calls the app Internet in the Fire TV interface. Amazon Silk overview and Amazon’s Fire TV instructions describe the controls and features.
Why it wins
- No third-party APK source or sideloading is needed on supported Fire TV devices.
- The directional pad and select button are the expected input method.
- Bookmarks and voice launch make occasional browsing practical.
- A connected Bluetooth keyboard can make long URLs and searches much easier.
Limits
Silk is optimized for a television, not full desktop productivity. Some websites reject TV/mobile browsers, require desktop-style controls, or use DRM and codecs unavailable on a particular Fire TV model. Private browsing removes local history after the private tab closes, but Amazon says activity can still be visible to your internet service provider and visited websites; downloads and bookmarks can remain.
Verdict: Start here unless you specifically need stronger page filtering, specialized download handling, or a different Android-TV browser.
2. TV Bro: best lightweight sideloaded browser
Features and availability
TV Bro is an open-source browser built for TV remotes. Its project lists tabs, bookmarks, voice search, shortcuts, history, user-agent switching, a download manager, and Android’s built-in web rendering engine. See the source repository and official project site.

The two official pages currently show different release information: the project site lists version 2.1.6 dated June 1, 2026, while GitHub lists version 2.1.5 dated May 3, 2026. Check the developer’s current release page rather than copying an old APK link.
Strengths
- Lean interface designed around D-pad navigation rather than touch gestures.
- User-agent switching can help when a website serves an unusable layout.
- Visible open-source development and release history.
- Recent releases list configurable ad-blocking-related options.
Trade-offs
TV Bro is an Android-TV application, not an Amazon-developed Fire TV browser. Amazon Appstore availability should not be assumed, and its Android rendering engine may share limitations with other WebView-based apps. Performance, video playback, and installation depend on the Fire TV model, Fire OS version, WebView components, and the website.
Verdict: The best alternative for technically confident Fire OS users who want a remote-first interface and accept sideloading.
3. BrowseHere TV Browser: best for web video and downloads
What the vendor claims
BrowseHere’s official site advertises Android TV, Google TV, Android-device, and Amazon Fire TV OS support, plus remote navigation, subtitles, voice search, an IPTV player, ad blocking, and downloads for APKs, videos, and images. Its Google Play listing identifies TCL Group as the developer, describes the app as free with no in-app purchases, and showed a July 3, 2026 update.

Where it fits
- A built-in video player may be convenient on video-heavy pages.
- Download progress and file handling are more prominent than in many TV browsers.
- Ad and pop-up filtering is a central selling point.
Important qualifications
“Ad blocking” is a vendor claim, not proof that every advertisement, tracker, redirect, or malicious page will be stopped. A site may work in the page but fail in the built-in player, or the reverse. IPTV functionality does not supply legal channels or subscriptions. Fire TV availability can vary by country and device, and installing an APK from a direct download is less controlled than using an app store.
Verdict: Choose BrowseHere when web video, downloads, and reduced pop-ups matter more than minimalism.
4. JioSphere: privacy-focused experiment
What is established
JioSphere’s official site lists Android TV and set-top-box availability alongside desktop and mobile versions. It claims to block privacy-invasive ads and trackers, restrict third-party data storage, resist browser fingerprinting, and upgrade connections to HTTPS where possible.
Why caution is needed
The available information does not establish Amazon Appstore distribution for every Fire TV Stick or compatibility with every Fire OS release. Android-TV availability does not prove support for each Fire TV model, and compatibility with Vega OS is particularly uncertain. The site’s incomplete FAQ also means exact language, extension, and VPN capabilities should not be inferred.

- Getting set up is easy – Plug in and connect to Wi-Fi for smooth streaming.
Verdict: An interesting privacy alternative only if you verify the model, operating system, build, and installation source first.
5. Browser TV and other experimental Android-TV browsers
Browser TV is an open-source Android-TV fork based on TV Bro and is licensed GPL-3.0-or-later. It may be useful when a different development direction solves a device-specific problem, but the project is less established than TV Bro and broad Fire TV compatibility is not demonstrated.
Verdict: Reserve it for advanced users willing to troubleshoot installation, input, updates, and website compatibility. There are not five equally mature, officially supported Fire TV browsers.

No supported current Fire TV version exists. Mozilla ended Firefox support for Amazon Fire TV on April 30, 2021; it can no longer be installed through the supported route and receives no Fire TV security updates. An old APK may be incompatible, abandoned, or unsafe for logins and sensitive browsing. Mozilla’s notice is the relevant current reference.

Before installing any browser
- Identify the device: open Fire TV settings and record the exact model; determine whether it uses Fire OS or Vega OS.
- Choose the support level: prefer an Appstore/first-party app, then a vendor-documented Fire TV build, then an Android-TV APK only when compatibility is clear.
- Use the official source: start with the developer’s site or official store listing. Avoid modified APKs, random mirrors, and unverified “Downloader codes.”
- Match the build: use the Android-TV package and correct CPU architecture, not a phone/tablet build.
- Limit permissions: enable installation permission only for the utility that needs it, then disable it after setup.
- Remove failures: uninstall an app that crashes, lacks remote support, or has no credible maintenance instead of trying unrelated mirror versions.
Fire TV menu labels vary by model and software version, so no single sideloading path is universal. A browser that installs on a Fire TV Stick 4K Max running Fire OS may not install on a newer Vega OS device.
How to install and use Silk
- From the Fire TV home screen, open Apps.
- Find Internet, or search for Silk with voice search.
- Select Download or Get if it is not installed.
- Open the app, move the cursor with the directional pad, and press the center button to activate links and fields.
- Bookmark frequently used sites; connect a Bluetooth keyboard for lengthy searches or URLs.
If Silk is missing, search for “Internet,” check the App Library, restart the device, install pending software updates, and confirm whether the hardware is a Fire OS or Vega OS model. Amazon’s support discussion covers this path: Amazon forum guidance.
Fixing common problems
The APK installs but will not open
- Wrong CPU architecture or Android API level.
- Phone build instead of Android-TV build.
- Fire OS/Vega OS mismatch.
- Missing WebView component, insufficient memory, storage, or a corrupted package.
Uninstall it, check the developer’s release notes, and try only the correct TV build. On Vega OS, stop assuming Android APK compatibility.
The browser opens but the remote is unusable
Touch-first phone apps often have tiny controls, off-screen buttons, or require a mouse cursor. Prefer Silk, TV Bro, or BrowseHere, or connect a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
Video works in one browser but not another
Different user-agent strings, WebView versions, DRM requirements, codecs, pop-up handling, and built-in players can all change the result. Browser compatibility is site-specific; no browser guarantees every live stream or subscription service.
Silk freezes or will not scroll
Amazon recommends clearing Silk’s data and cache, then restarting Fire TV. To restart with the remote, hold Select/OK and Play/Pause together for 10 seconds. For a nested scrollable section, hold Select/OK while pressing the directional pad. See Amazon’s troubleshooting instructions.
