Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →“Something went wrong” is a generic Disney+ failure, not a single diagnosis. First note the full message and any code, then test another title, another device, and—if possible—another network. That pattern usually tells you whether the fault is Disney+, your account, home internet, the app, the browser, or the TV connection.
Disney associates Error 83 (“Something went wrong. Please try again…”) mainly with compatibility or connection problems. Other codes require different remedies, so do not apply an Error 83 fix automatically.
Identify the exact Disney+ failure
Write down the wording and code before changing anything. Note where it occurs: before sign-in, after entering credentials, at profile selection, when opening a title, or after playback starts.
| What you observe | What it suggests | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| Error 83 | Broad compatibility or connection problem, according to Disney | Use the supported-device, software, and network steps below |
| “Something went wrong” with no code | Could be app, browser, account, network, title, or service-side trouble | Run the cross-device and cross-network tests |
| Error 14, 91, 92, or 93 during sign-in | Credential, throttling, or suspicious-activity issue | Use Disney’s error-code index |
| Error 73 | Content-location or regional availability issue | Check location, VPN, and travel status |
| Error 42, 43, 75, 1026, or 142 | Different authorization, playback, or app conditions | Follow the matching Disney code article rather than the Error 83 procedure |

Use three tests to isolate the fault
- Try another title. If one movie or episode fails while others play, the problem may be title-specific, regional, or related to content delivery.
- Try another device on the same Wi-Fi. Use a phone, computer at DisneyPlus.com, console, or another TV.
- Try another network. Test cellular data or a hotspot briefly, without treating the hotspot as a permanent solution.
Use the results as a diagnostic pattern:
| Result | More likely explanation |
|---|---|
| Fails on every device and another network | Account or Disney+ service-side problem |
| Fails on every device on home Wi-Fi but works on cellular | Router, ISP, DNS, or home-network path |
| Fails on one device only | App, cache, operating system, compatibility, or that device’s network path |
| Only one title fails | Title-specific playback, rights, regional, or delivery issue |
| Other streaming services also fail | General internet, router, or device problem |
This pattern cannot prove that Disney’s servers are down. The official help pages provide troubleshooting and contact routes, not a real-time outage confirmation.
Try the least-disruptive fixes first
Force-close Disney+
Fully exit the app instead of leaving it behind the Home button. Reopen Disney+ and retry the same title. Disney recommends completely exiting Disney+ and other background programs before reopening: streaming troubleshooting.
Restart the device
Restart the TV, streaming stick, phone, tablet, console, or computer. A restart clears a hung process; it does not clear app data or reinstall Disney+.
Update everything
Install the newest Disney+ version from the device’s official app store and apply pending TV, streaming-device, console, phone, or computer updates. On a computer, update the browser as well.

Refresh a computer browser
Reload DisneyPlus.com, close and reopen the browser, and try another supported browser if the page remains stuck. Disney supports the latest Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Opera on Windows 10 or newer; on macOS 11 or newer it supports the latest Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari. ChromeOS users should use the latest Chrome version: computer browser requirements.
Power-cycle the internet connection
Disney lists unstable or slow connections, router distance, many connected devices, modem/router faults, and ISP outages among possible contributors. A speed test alone does not rule out packet loss, congestion, Wi-Fi interference, DNS failure, or intermittent drops.
- Turn off the Disney+ device.
- Unplug or power off the modem and router.
- Wait briefly for both to shut down.
- Restart the modem and wait for its connection.
- Restart the router and wait for Wi-Fi or Ethernet to return.
- Restart the Disney+ device and test again.
- Move a Wi-Fi device closer to the router.
- Pause large downloads and other streams.
- Try Ethernet if available.
- Use a hotspot only to compare networks.
See Disney’s guidance at Disney+ streaming issues.
Clear Disney+ cache or data
Clear cache removes temporary files and is usually least disruptive. Clear data or storage resets local app information and normally requires signing in again. Browser site-data clearing can also remove preferences and sign you out.

Reinstall the app
- Uninstall Disney+.
- Restart the device.
- Reinstall Disney+ from the official app store.
- Sign in again and test the title that failed.
Reinstallation obtains a fresh app copy, but it cannot repair an outage, unsupported hardware, or an account restriction. It may remove downloads and local sign-in state. Disney recommends this sequence in its streaming troubleshooting.
Fix Disney+ in a web browser
- Use a current supported browser and operating system.
- Ensure JavaScript and cookies are enabled; Disney calls for both when viewing in a browser.
- Temporarily disable ad blockers, privacy tools, script blockers, and content filters.
- Try a private/incognito window as a diagnostic. If it works there, cookies or an extension may be involved.
- Sign out, clear Disney+ site data, sign back in, and test another supported browser.
Browser requirements are listed at Disney’s computer browser page; browser settings guidance is in Disney’s streaming article.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Check compatibility and Android requirements
Error 83 is commonly associated with unsupported devices or access methods. Use the Disney+ app where your platform supports one, avoid unofficial app packages, and install pending system updates. Compatibility varies by model, operating system, country, and app availability; there is no single universal TV list.
For a concrete U.S. example, Disney’s Android mobile page requires Android 6.0 or later: supported Android mobile devices. Verify your exact model against Disney’s current support pages before replacing hardware.

When playback fails on a TV or external display
HDMI/HDCP problems are most relevant when Disney+ opens but playback fails, especially while switching to 4K or HDR—not when a basic login page cannot load.
- Reseat both HDMI ends.
- Try another HDMI port.
- Connect the streaming device directly to the TV, bypassing an AV receiver or HDMI switch.
- Update TV and receiver firmware.
- Test another HDMI cable.
- Confirm that every component supports the required HDCP level. Disney specifies HDCP 2.2 for 4K Ultra HD and HDR external-display playback.
See the display guidance in Disney’s streaming troubleshooting.
Account, sign-in, and profile problems
If the message appears during login or profile selection, confirm the email address and password and try signing in through a supported browser. Reset the password only when credentials may be wrong or compromised. Check whether the account works on another device.
Do not repeatedly retry when Disney shows a throttling or suspicious-activity code. Error 14, 91, 92, and 93 have their own handling in the error-code index. Creating a new account is not a first-line fix and can create billing, profile, and entitlement complications.

Region, travel, VPN, and proxy checks
If the code is Error 73, Disney describes it as content unavailable in the viewer’s current location. Disable a VPN or proxy temporarily, check whether the network or device is misidentifying your location, and follow Disney’s regional guidance when traveling. Do not use a VPN as a universal workaround; it can introduce region, authentication, latency, or playback errors. Catalog availability and policies vary by country.
When to contact Disney+
Escalate when the error persists on multiple supported devices and on both Wi-Fi and cellular/hotspot testing; when the account cannot sign in anywhere; after a password, subscription, or household change; or when a code indicates throttling, suspicious activity, authorization, or region. If restarting, updating, clearing data, and reinstalling made no difference, support can check account and service-side conditions.
For U.S. subscribers, Disney offers virtual-assistant and chat support and lists 888-905-7888; local or international charges may apply: Disney+ contact page.
