All Sony network channels were not permanently removed from Tata Play. No—not in the literal, platform-wide sense. Tata Play did remove Sony channels from selected subscriber-curated and bundled packs, first in August 2024 and again during a renewed commercial dispute reported in May 2025. However, Tata Play’s official channel inventory and broadcaster-pack documents dated March–April 2026 still list Sony entertainment, movie, sports, children’s, factual and regional channels.
The accurate explanation is that Sony channels were removed or downgraded from particular Tata Play packs—not permanently removed from the entire Indian DTH platform. Whether a channel is available to you depends on your current pack, account configuration, channel format and the latest broadcaster pricing.

August 2024: Sony channels removed from selected curated packs
On August 1–2, 2024, Tata Play announced that Sony Entertainment channels would be taken out of specially curated subscriber packs. Tata Play said its viewing data showed that customers were receiving more channels than they actively watched. The stated aim was to streamline packs and reduce prices rather than shut down Sony’s distribution across Tata Play.
Customers affected by the change could reportedly reinstate the removed channels through a missed-call process. Tata Play also maintained that subscribers could add Sony channels individually or choose a Sony broadcaster bouquet.
Sony Pictures Networks India challenged the change and reportedly sought an audit of Tata Play’s subscriber-management system. The disagreement therefore involved more than a programming decision: it concerned how channels were assigned to customer packs and whether the pack changes complied with the relevant distribution arrangements.
A later report said the companies reached an amicable resolution and that the channels were reintroduced across Tata Play packs. That outcome is important: the 2024 episode was a temporary, pack-level distribution dispute, not proof that Sony’s entire network had permanently disappeared from Tata Play.
May 2025: a renewed carriage-fee and pack dispute
In a report dated May 21, 2025, The Economic Times said Tata Play had again started removing SPNI channels from subscriber packs. The reported disagreement concerned Sony’s request for a 10–15% subscription-fee increase. Tata Play resisted the increase amid subscriber churn and stagnant average revenue per user.

Again, the reported change was described as pack downgrading rather than a complete technical blackout. Tata Play said affected customers could restore dropped channels and that the channels remained available à la carte. In practical terms, a customer could lose a Sony channel from a monthly package without Tata Play removing that channel from its platform.
Are Sony channels currently available on Tata Play?
As of the official Tata Play material dated August 12, 2026, yes. The available documents contradict the claim that all Sony network channels were removed.
Tata Play’s April 23, 2026 channel list includes Sony Max 1, Sony Pix in HD and SD, and multiple Sony Sports Ten channels. Its March 26, 2026 broadcaster-pack document also lists Sony-branded entertainment, movie, sports, children’s, factual and regional channels in active Sony Happy India packs.

Tata Play’s current Sony Happy India 2026 All HD page describes an eight-channel pack priced at ₹59.10 per month before any account-specific charges or later revisions. Tata Play’s April 1, 2026 platform-update notice also treats several Sony channels as receiving price revisions, not as permanently discontinued services. It separately identifies some Sony Happy India broadcaster packs as discontinued, showing why a discontinued bundle should not be confused with a discontinued channel.
Why did a Sony channel disappear from your pack?
Tata Play combines personalized packs, broadcaster packs and individual pay channels. A channel can therefore disappear from one customer’s monthly selection while remaining available to another customer—or available as an add-on to the same customer.

The most likely explanations are:
- Your curated pack was changed. Tata Play may have removed a channel that its viewing analysis suggested you rarely watched.
- Your pack was downgraded. The monthly price may fall because a broadcaster bundle or channel group was removed.
- The broadcaster changed its tariff. A commercial revision can alter the price or contents of an existing pack.
- The channel must be added à la carte. You may need to select the individual Sony channel instead of the previous bundle.
- The pack itself was discontinued. This does not necessarily mean that every channel in that pack was discontinued.
- You are checking a different service. A Tata Play Binge or app listing does not always represent the linear DTH channel lineup.
How to restore a missing Sony channel
- Open your Tata Play account or subscriber app. Check the active pack and the list of channels currently included in it.
- Search for the channel by name. Check both HD and SD versions, because they may be listed separately and have different prices.
- Review Sony broadcaster packs. Compare the cost of a Sony Happy India pack with adding only the channel you actually watch.
- Add the channel or pack through Tata Play’s account controls. The exact confirmation screen and price can vary according to your existing subscription.
- Refresh the set-top box. After an approved change, allow the account update to reach the box and rescan or refresh the channel list if Tata Play instructs you to do so.
- Contact Tata Play support if the channel is still absent. Keep your subscriber ID, the channel name, the pack name and the time of the change available when reporting the problem.
Older news reports may mention missed-call restoration procedures. Because those numbers and workflows can change, use the current instructions shown in your Tata Play account or supplied by Tata Play support rather than relying on an old video or social-media post.
Do TRAI rules mean Tata Play must carry the channel in your pack?
Not necessarily. The reported 2025 dispute referred to the continued à-la-carte availability of affected channels under applicable TRAI rules. That means a channel may need to remain selectable individually, subject to the rules and current tariff framework; it does not mean every subscriber must receive it automatically inside every personalized or discounted bundle.
This distinction explains much of the confusion. “Available on the platform,” “included in my pack” and “included at the previous price” are three different questions.

Linear Sony channels versus SonyLIV on Tata Play Binge
A separate Tata Play change concerns SonyLIV availability in Tata Play Binge plans. Tata Play’s SonyLIV help information says SonyLIV was removed from Tata Play Binge plans while the Binge plan price remained unchanged.
That is an OTT-bundle issue, not evidence that Sony’s linear DTH channels were removed from Tata Play. A missing SonyLIV tile in Binge and a missing Sony Sports Ten channel on a set-top box require different explanations and different support routes.
What Tata Play subscribers should verify
- The exact name of the missing Sony channel.
- Whether you previously received it through a curated pack, broadcaster pack or individual subscription.
- Whether the HD and SD versions are separate selections.
- The current channel number in Tata Play’s latest channel list.
- The current monthly price, including tax where shown.
- Whether the issue affects the DTH set-top box, the Tata Play app or Tata Play Binge.
- Whether the broadcaster pack was discontinued while its individual channels remained available.
Tata Play’s website uses dynamic account and pack pages, and channel inventories can change. The latest official channel list and broadcaster-pack document are more reliable for present availability than an older headline, user-uploaded video or cached pack comparison.
If the problem is your remote, not the channel
A broken or missing remote can make it difficult to open the channel list, inspect your pack or complete a restoration request. Tata Play documents separate HD/SD and Binge+ remote options, so subscribers can check the appropriate Tata Play replacement remote for their set-top-box setup through Tata Play’s official ordering or booking route.
A replacement remote can help you navigate the account and channel menu; it cannot restore a Sony channel that is no longer included in your pack.
