Disney+ “language” problems have four possible causes: the audio track, subtitles or captions, audio description, or the profile’s app language. Start in the player: open Audio and Subtitles, select the desired tracks, and close the menu with the X or back arrow. Then confirm the correct profile is active. If the problem affects several titles, refresh the app and device; if it affects only one title, check whether that language is actually available in your region.
If Disney+ keeps changing language, first determine which language is changing: the spoken audio track, subtitles or captions, audio description, or the Disney+ app interface. These are separate controls. Start with the title that is currently playing, open Audio and Subtitles, choose the preferred audio and subtitle languages, and close the menu with the X or back arrow. Disney+ normally remembers the last-used playback choices for that profile when those languages are available.
If the language changes across several titles, check the active profile and its App Language, then work through app updates, a full restart, cache or data clearing, and—if necessary—a reinstall. A language that is missing from only one movie or episode may not be a technical fault: Disney+ language availability varies by title and country or region.
First, identify what is changing
| What you notice | Likely control to check |
|---|---|
| Characters are speaking a different language | In-player audio track |
| Text appears in a different language | Subtitles or captions |
| A narrator describes what is happening on screen | Audio description track |
| Menus, buttons, or profile text change language | Profile App Language |
Do not assume that changing the television, phone, or streaming device’s system language will change Disney+ playback language. Disney+ manages profile language and playback language separately.

1. Re-select the audio and subtitle language while the video is playing
This is the least disruptive fix and should be your first step. Do it from inside the Disney+ player rather than changing the general language of the device.
- Open the movie or episode that is playing in the wrong language.
- Pause if necessary and open the Audio and Subtitles menu. The control may appear as a keyboard, speech, or audio-and-subtitles icon.
- Select the preferred audio track.
- Select the preferred subtitle or caption language, or turn subtitles off if you do not want them.
- Close the menu with the X or back arrow.
- Resume playback and confirm that both the spoken audio and on-screen text are correct.
There may not be a separate Save button. On many versions of Disney+, leaving the menu with the X or back arrow applies the selection. Disney+ generally uses the last playback language choices for the next show or movie on that profile, but only when the selected languages are offered for that title and region.
Where is the language menu?
The location depends on the device and app version:
- Web browsers and mobile devices: the control is generally near the top-right of the player.
- TV-connected devices: it may be near the bottom-right or under a three-dot menu.
- Roku: press the asterisk (*) button on the remote while playback is active.
- Apple TV: use the swipe-down gesture on the remote to open playback options.
If the setting stays correct on the current title but changes on the next one, continue with the third fix below: the language may be unavailable for the second title.

Disney+ language preferences are associated with profiles. In a household where several people use one profile, one viewer’s choices can appear to overwrite another viewer’s preferences. First make sure the expected profile is active.

To change the profile’s interface language:
- Open the Disney+ profile menu.
- Select Edit Profiles or Edit Profile.
- Choose the profile being used for playback.
- Open App Language.
- Choose the desired language and save the profile.
The exact wording and location can differ slightly by app version and device. App Language controls the Disney+ interface, but it can also influence which localized version of a title is offered and may expose additional audio or subtitle choices.
This is not a guarantee that every movie or episode will play in the selected language. If that language does not have a matching version of the title in the viewer’s region, Disney+ may default to English or use another available version. If language preferences repeatedly conflict in a shared household, create separate profiles for the viewers rather than relying on one shared profile. Separate profiles can prevent preference confusion, but they do not by themselves repair an app defect.
3. Check whether the title and region actually support that language
Disney+ does not provide every audio, subtitle, or caption language for every title. Availability can differ between movies, episodes, countries, and regions. A language working on one documentary does not prove that it should be available on another.
Use this quick test:
- Open the title that keeps changing language.
- Check the Audio and Subtitles menu and note which languages are listed.
- Test the same preferred language on a second movie or episode.
- Compare the result on the original device and, if possible, another supported device or browser.
If only one title or episode is affected, the likely explanation is title-specific availability or incorrect title metadata rather than a profile setting. If many titles show the same behavior, continue with the profile and app troubleshooting steps.
Do not use a VPN as a language fix
A VPN or other IP anonymizer is not a dependable way to restore a missing Disney+ language. Disney+ identifies VPNs and IP anonymizers as possible causes of location errors, including error code 73. If you are seeing a location message, disable the VPN or anonymizer, reconnect to the normal network, and relaunch Disney+.

4. Check captions, accessibility, and audio description
Sometimes the spoken language has not changed at all. The perceived problem is caused by captions, closed captions, or an accessibility audio track.
Turn off or change audio description
Audio description is a separate audio track that adds spoken descriptions of visual details, such as actions, locations, or scene changes. It can sound like extra narration and may be mistaken for a language or audio problem.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Open the in-player Audio and Subtitles menu.
- Review the available audio tracks.
- Choose the ordinary audio track rather than one labeled Audio Description, AD, or a similar accessibility label.
- Close the menu and test playback again.
Audio-description availability varies by title, language, and country or region. If the audio-description option is not listed, it may not be available for that particular title.
Review subtitle and device accessibility settings
Check both Disney+’s in-player controls and the device’s accessibility settings. A device-level caption setting can affect how captions are displayed, while Disney+ controls determine the available playback language options. The menu path is not universal: iPhone and iPad, Android, Apple TV, Fire TV, Xbox, PlayStation, Roku, and smart-TV platforms use different accessibility menus.
As a diagnostic test, compare the behavior with another video. If captions or narration are wrong only on one title, availability or metadata is more likely than a device accessibility problem.

5. Update, restart, and refresh the Disney+ app
If Disney+ changes the language across multiple titles or resets it whenever the app is reopened, treat the problem as an app or device-state issue. Use the following sequence, stopping when the problem is resolved.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →- Fully close Disney+. Do not merely return to the device’s home screen if the platform leaves apps running in the background.
- Reopen Disney+ and test the same title.
- Install pending updates. Check for both a Disney+ app update and an operating-system or firmware update for the phone, computer, TV, console, or streaming device.
- Power-cycle the device. Shut it down or restart it, wait for it to complete the restart, and launch Disney+ again.
- Clear cache or app data. Use the platform’s application settings if that option is available.
- Reinstall Disney+. Uninstall the app, restart the device if practical, reinstall Disney+, sign in, and test the language setting again.
Temporary cached files can become corrupted. Clearing cache or data can remove that stale state, but the labels and steps vary by platform. Clearing app data or reinstalling may sign you out, so have the MyDisney login available before starting. A reinstall should be a later step, not the first response to a language preference that simply needs to be re-selected.
Browser users
On a computer, update the browser, close unnecessary Disney+ tabs, and clear the Disney+ site’s cached data or cookies using the browser’s privacy settings. Sign in again afterward if required. Test Disney+ in a supported browser to determine whether the problem belongs to the browser session or to the account and profile.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.6. Isolate the device, network, and account before contacting support
Cross-testing prevents you from repeating the same settings changes when the real problem is title-specific, device-specific, or account-related.
| Test | What the result suggests |
|---|---|
| Another title on the same device and profile | If it works, the original title may have different language availability or metadata. |
| The same title on another supported device or browser | If it works elsewhere, focus on the original app, device, or operating system. |
| Another profile on the same device | If only one profile is affected, review that profile’s App Language and playback choices. |
| Playback with a VPN or IP anonymizer disabled | If location errors disappear, the network-location setup was contributing to the problem. |
For a location message or error code 73, disable VPN and IP-anonymizing software, run the device’s internet connection test, restart the modem or router if appropriate, power-cycle the streaming device, and relaunch Disney+. A network problem generally does not change a language preference by itself, but an incorrect detected region can change which language versions Disney+ exposes.

What to give Disney+ support
Contact Disney+ support if the language still resets after you have reselected it, checked the profile, confirmed title and regional availability, reviewed accessibility settings, and completed the update/cache/reinstall sequence.
Include:
- The movie or series name and episode number, if applicable.
- The audio, subtitle, caption, or audio-description language you selected.
- The language Disney+ switches to.
- The active Disney+ profile.
- The device model and operating-system or firmware version.
- The Disney+ app version, if visible.
- Whether the issue occurs on other titles.
- Whether it occurs on another device or supported browser.
- Any location message or error code, especially error code 73.
- Whether a VPN, proxy, or IP anonymizer was enabled.
This information helps support distinguish a title-availability issue from a profile setting, corrupted app data, device compatibility problem, or location error.
Quick checklist
- Open the title while it is playing.
- Choose the correct audio track.
- Choose the correct subtitles or captions, or turn them off.
- Close the menu with the X or back arrow to apply the choice.
- Confirm that the correct Disney+ profile is active.
- Review Edit Profile > App Language.
- Test another title to check availability.
- Turn off audio description if extra narration is playing.
- Review the device’s accessibility settings.
- Close and reopen Disney+, update the app and device, then restart the device.
- Clear cache or data and reinstall only if the issue continues.
- Disable VPN or IP-anonymizing software if a location error appears.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I stop Disney+ from changing the audio language?
Open the movie or episode, open the Audio and Subtitles menu, select the preferred audio and subtitle languages, then close the menu with the X or back arrow. Disney+ generally remembers the selection for that profile when the language is available for the next title.
Why is my preferred language missing on Disney+?
No. Disney+ language availability varies by title and country or region. Test the language on another title. If it is missing only from one movie or episode, the issue may be title-specific rather than a broken setting.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhy is a narrator describing everything on Disney+?
Check the in-player audio tracks for an option labeled Audio Description or AD and choose the ordinary audio track. Also review the device’s accessibility settings, which vary between platforms.
How do I keep different Disney+ users’ language settings separate?
Use a separate profile, set its App Language, reselect the playback language while a title is playing, and then test another title. Separate profiles can prevent viewers’ preferences from becoming confused, but they cannot guarantee language availability or fix every software problem.
Can a VPN fix Disney+ language problems?
Disable the VPN or IP anonymizer, run an internet connection test, restart the device, and relaunch Disney+. Disney+ identifies VPNs and IP anonymizers as possible causes of location errors, including error code 73.
The Bottom Line
Most Disney+ language changes are resolved by reselecting the audio and subtitle tracks in the player and confirming the correct profile. If the language is missing from only one title, check title and regional availability before treating it as a bug. For repeated resets across titles, refresh the app and device, then give Disney+ support the title, profile, device, selected language, and troubleshooting results.
