The Blindspot cast and character guide starts with Jaimie Alexander as Jane Doe, the tattoo-covered woman at the center of the mystery, and Sullivan Stapleton as FBI agent Kurt Weller. Ashley Johnson, Rob Brown, Audrey Esparza, and later-season additions including Luke Mitchell and Archie Panjabi round out the principal cast.
Created by Martin Gero for NBC, Blindspot follows an FBI team as Jane’s tattoos reveal crimes and clues about her erased identity. The series ran for five seasons from 2015 to 2020 and avoids making every guest performer look like a main cast member; the guide below focuses on the actors viewers are most likely trying to recognize.
Key takeaways
- Jaimie Alexander leads Blindspot as Jane Doe and may be most familiar from Marvel’s Lady Sif or Kyle XY.
- Sullivan Stapleton is FBI agent Kurt Weller, a recognizable action lead from Strike Back and 300: Rise of an Empire.
- Ashley Johnson, who plays Patterson, also performed the voice and motion-capture role of Ellie in the The Last of Us video game.
- Luke Mitchell, Michelle Hurd, Archie Panjabi, Ennis Esmer, and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio become important later-season additions or recurring standouts.
- Blindspot ran for five seasons from 2015 through 2020; Netflix’s July 2025 editorial guide lists all five seasons as available, while Amazon’s U.S. listing identifies a five-season title available for purchase.
What is Blindspot about?
Blindspot is a crime, action, and mystery thriller about Jane Doe, an unidentified woman found inside a travel bag in Times Square with her body covered in elaborate tattoos. FBI agent Kurt Weller and his team treat the tattoos as clues to crimes and to Jane’s hidden identity, turning each case into part of a larger conspiracy.
The series was created by Martin Gero for NBC and ran from 2015 through 2020. The show is complete with five seasons. Netflix’s official editorial guide, published in July 2025, says all five seasons are available on Netflix; availability can change by country and over time.

Jane Doe — Jaimie Alexander
Jaimie Alexander plays Jane Doe, the mysterious woman whose tattoos provide the FBI with a map of criminal investigations. Jane is physically capable, psychologically unsettled, and constantly forced to confront identities and memories she cannot initially explain. The role requires Alexander to move between action, procedural mystery, and shifting personal history without giving away the show’s major revelations.
Many viewers first recognize Alexander as Lady Sif from Marvel’s Thor and Thor: The Dark World, as well as from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Another strong recognition point is Jessi, the superhuman character she played on Kyle XY. NBC’s Jane Doe character page also lists her work in Nurse Jackie, The Brink, Love and Other Drugs, The Last Stand, and Savannah.
Alexander’s earlier action roles help explain why she is such a natural fit for Blindspot: Jane must be convincing both as an FBI field operative and as a woman whose identity is still being reconstructed. The Television Academy’s profile of Alexander also identifies Kyle XY, Thor, and Thor: The Dark World as important parts of her action-star profile.
Kurt Weller — Sullivan Stapleton
Sullivan Stapleton plays FBI Special Agent Kurt Weller, the hardened investigator assigned to interpret Jane’s tattoos and lead the field team. Weller is the procedural anchor of the series: he has to turn visual clues into cases while deciding how much he can trust Jane, the evidence, and his own connection to the mystery.
Australian viewers may know Stapleton from The Secret Life of Us, but the clearest international recognition points are the military-action series Strike Back and the film 300: Rise of an Empire, in which he played Themistocles. A Seven West Media press release about Blindspot specifically highlighted Stapleton’s Strike Back and 300: Rise of an Empire credentials when presenting the series.
Patterson — Ashley Johnson
Ashley Johnson plays Patterson, the team’s forensic and technical specialist. Patterson translates Jane’s tattoos into usable investigative leads, making her one of the characters who most directly converts the show’s unusual premise into weekly cases.

The most distinctive answer to “where have I seen Ashley Johnson before?” is often not a film or television credit. Johnson performed the voice and motion-capture role of Ellie in Naughty Dog and PlayStation’s The Last of Us video game. PlayStation’s official interview with Johnson discusses how she helped bring Ellie to life. This credit refers to the game, not Ellie’s actor in the HBO television adaptation.
Television and film viewers may also recognize Johnson from The Killing, Masters of Sex, Private Practice, The Help, The Avengers, and Much Ado About Nothing. NBC’s Patterson biography lists those credits alongside her Blindspot role.
Edgar Reade — Rob Brown
Rob Brown plays FBI Special Agent Edgar Reade, one of Weller’s original team members. Reade functions as an emotional counterweight when the group is tempted to accept Jane’s story—or reject it—too quickly.
Brown’s clearest recognition hook is Jamal Wallace in Finding Forrester, where he appeared opposite Sean Connery. He also played significant roles in Coach Carter, Take the Lead, Stop-Loss, Live!, The Express, Don Jon, and the HBO series Treme. The USA Network biography for Edgar Reade identifies Finding Forrester as Brown’s breakthrough and lists much of that résumé. Brown also appeared in The Dark Knight Rises.
Tasha Zapata — Audrey Esparza
Audrey Esparza plays FBI agent Tasha Zapata, a member of Weller’s team whose storyline combines field investigation, personal history, and later changes in allegiance. Esparza’s strongest recognition point is Power, where she had recurring work.
Viewers may also know Esparza from Public Morals, Black Box, Blue Bloods, The Following, The Americans, Golden Boy, or Madam Secretary. NBC’s official Tasha Zapata biography provides those earlier television credits.

Dr. Robert Borden — Ukweli Roach
Ukweli Roach plays Dr. Robert Borden, the FBI-affiliated psychiatrist who helps Jane explore her memories and psychological history. The series later introduces an identity complication involving the character; that detail is best left unexplained for viewers who have not finished the show.
Roach may be familiar from the science-fiction series Humans or the drama The Royals. Dance-film viewers may recognize him from StreetDance 3D. His other listed credits include Eternal Law, Starlings, and the crime drama Annika. TV Insider’s biography of Ukweli Roach covers his work as an actor, dancer, and choreographer.
Bethany Mayfair — Marianne Jean-Baptiste
Marianne Jean-Baptiste plays Bethany Mayfair, a senior FBI figure who anchors much of the show’s early institutional conflict. Mayfair gives the story a perspective beyond Weller’s field team and makes Jane’s arrival a matter of organizational risk as well as personal mystery.
Jean-Baptiste’s major film recognition point is Hortense in Mike Leigh’s Secrets & Lies. Many American television viewers know her as FBI agent Vivian Johnson on CBS’s Without a Trace, making Mayfair a particularly recognizable variation on the experienced federal-investigator role. She also appeared in Homecoming. The Festival de Cannes biography of Marianne Jean-Baptiste documents her connection with Secrets & Lies.

Alexander and Mitchell share a Marvel television connection through Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but they played different characters and were not connected there. That distinction is useful for recognition without implying a crossover between their Marvel roles.
Ellen “Shepherd” Briggs — Michelle Hurd
Michelle Hurd plays Ellen “Shepherd” Briggs, one of the show’s principal antagonistic forces and a crucial figure in Jane and Roman’s backstory. The character’s importance is best described without explaining the later plot twists that surround her.

Nas Kamal — Archie Panjabi
Archie Panjabi plays Nas Kamal, a senior intelligence figure who joins the FBI-centered story in a later season. The most immediate recognition answer is Kalinda Sharma from The Good Wife; Nas occupies a different professional world but has a similarly investigative presence.
Panjabi’s other notable credits include Life on Mars, The Fall, and Departure. The Television Academy biography of Archie Panjabi provides a further reference point for her career.
Rich Dotcom — Ennis Esmer
Ennis Esmer plays Rich Dotcom, also identified as Gord Enver, a recurring hacker whose comic energy gradually becomes a practical asset to the FBI. His strongest earlier television recognition point is The Listener; science-fiction viewers may know him from Dark Matter. He also appeared in Red Oaks and Private Eyes. The TV Guide cast listing confirms the character’s two names.

Madeline Burke — Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio
Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio plays Madeline Burke, a powerful antagonist introduced in the later seasons. Her casting is a particularly strong “where have you seen her before?” moment for viewers who recognize major 1980s and 1990s films.
Mastrantonio played Gina in Brian De Palma’s Scarface and Carmen in Martin Scorsese’s The Color of Money, for which she received an Academy Award nomination. Her film résumé also includes The Abyss, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, and The Perfect Storm. The biographical listing for Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio records those film credits.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which recurring Blindspot actors may you recognize?
The recurring cast includes several familiar performers who are important to individual storylines without belonging to the core team. Aaron Abrams plays Matthew Weitz, Trieste Kelly Dunn plays Allison Knight, François Arnaud plays Oscar, Josh Dean plays Boston Arliss Crab, Tori Anderson plays Blake Crawford, and Lou Diamond Phillips plays Saúl Guerrero. The full cast listing is the best place to check those supporting character names.
These performers are kept separate from the main cast because Blindspot has a large rotating set of investigators, officials, allies, and adversaries. Treating every guest performer as a principal cast member makes it harder to identify the actors viewers are most likely trying to place.

Where can you watch or buy Blindspot?

This Blindspot cast guide avoids major identity twists, deaths, and the final outcome. Alternate character names are included only when they help explain a cast listing, and later-season descriptions identify the actors’ importance without unpacking the revelations behind their relationships.
