Make sure you choose the documentary, not the scripted drama
Peacock currently carries two similarly named productions about Gacy:
| Title in Peacock’s catalog | What it is | How to identify it |
|---|---|---|
| John Wayne Gacy: Devil in Disguise | The 2021 documentary series | Six episodes, rated TV-14, listed as a documentary |
| Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy | A separate scripted limited drama | Eight episodes, rated TV-MA; premiered exclusively on Peacock on October 16, 2025 |
The documentary uses interviews, archival material, and Gacy’s own recorded words to examine the case, the victims, investigators, prosecutors, and the questions that continued after the crimes were uncovered. The scripted drama is a dramatization that also focuses on victims’ families, institutional failures, and missed opportunities. It is not the same production.
When searching, select the result labeled Documentary with six episodes and a TV-14 rating. Peacock’s official listings are the best source for distinguishing the two titles.

Where Peacock is available
Peacock’s service is available in the United States and certain U.S. territories, including American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The availability of this individual documentary outside those markets should not be assumed. Streaming catalogs are territory-specific and can change.
A U.S. JustWatch listing checked on July 26, 2026, also reported the documentary on Peacock Premium and Peacock Premium Plus and did not identify a free streaming option at that check. That is useful as a secondary availability check, but Peacock’s own catalog should take priority for the current U.S. listing. JustWatch did not establish international availability, a permanent free option, or a rental or purchase option.

Internet requirements and buffering fixes
Peacock recommends at least 3 Mbps for general streaming and at least 8 Mbps for certain high-quality live or ultra-high-definition content. Those figures are service recommendations, not a guarantee that every connection will play smoothly.
If playback buffers:
- Run a speed test on the device you plan to use.
- Pause other high-bandwidth activity, such as game downloads or large file transfers.
- Restart the Peacock app and, if necessary, the streaming device.
- Move closer to the Wi-Fi router or use a wired connection where practical.
- Install pending app, device, or operating-system updates.
- Try a different supported device or browser to determine whether the problem is device-specific.
For Peacock’s troubleshooting guidance, see its slow-loading and buffering help page.
