The week’s biggest scripted return is The Pitt Season 2 on Crave, while Endless Cookie is the standout Canadian documentary pick. From Jan. 5 to 11, 2026, Canadian viewers can also find new seasons of Murdoch Mysteries, Saint-Pierre and Wild Cards on CBC Gem, the thriller His & Hers and the Emily Henry adaptation People We Meet on Vacation on Netflix, plus three major Prime Video arrivals.
This guide covers the services in the column’s usual scope. Although Apple TV+ is included in the broader title, this particular week’s researched lineup does not contain a substantive Apple TV+ featured release.

CBC Gem: five returning Canadian series
CBC Gem’s schedule is dominated by returning Canadian favourites rather than brand-new series. That makes it the week’s best destination for viewers looking for familiar casts, ongoing storylines and programming that is specifically rooted in Canadian television.
- Murdoch Mysteries, Season 19 — Jan. 5.
- Saint-Pierre, Season 2 — Jan. 5.
- Still Standing with Johnny Harris, Season 11 — Jan. 6.
- Allegiance, Season 3 — Jan. 7.
- Wild Cards, Season 3 — Jan. 7.
CBC Gem is available as a free, ad-supported service, with a Premium option advertised at $5.99 per month in the original week’s coverage. Because subscription prices and plan terms can change, treat that figure as historical to this Jan. 5–11, 2026 roundup rather than a guaranteed current price.

Crave: The Pitt returns, and Endless Cookie arrives
Endless Cookie — Jan. 5
The strongest documentary choice of the week is Endless Cookie, which premiered on Crave in Canada on Jan. 5. The film follows half-brothers Peter and Seth Scriver, whose family backgrounds include Cree and white heritage. The brothers directed the documentary themselves: Peter Scriver is from Shamattawa First Nation, while Seth Scriver is based in Toronto.
That personal connection is central to the film’s appeal. Rather than presenting the brothers’ family history through an outside narrator, Endless Cookie is shaped by the people whose lives and relationship it examines. It is the natural choice here for viewers seeking a Canadian documentary with an intimate, family-centred perspective.
The Pitt, Season 2 — Jan. 8
The Pitt is the week’s largest prestige-TV return. Season 2 premieres on Crave on Thursday, Jan. 8, at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, followed by new episodes weekly on Thursdays.
The 15-episode season is a Max Original, and its Canadian creator is R. Scott Gemmill. If you want a weekly drama rather than a complete season to binge in one sitting, this is Crave’s central appointment viewing for the week.

Industry, Season 4 — Jan. 11
Season 4 of Industry begins on Crave on Sunday, Jan. 11. The first episode and subsequent episodes arrive weekly on Sundays, giving Crave two major returning scripted series with different weekly rhythms: The Pitt on Thursdays and Industry on Sundays.
The original article listed Crave Premium at $22 per month and Crave Standard with Ads at $11.99 per month. Those were prices in the publication context and should be checked against Crave’s current Canadian plans before being used for a purchase decision.

Netflix: a thriller and a friends-to-lovers film
His & Hers — Jan. 8
His & Hers is a six-episode limited thriller that premiered on Netflix Canada on Jan. 8. Its central couple are estranged spouses on opposite sides of a murder investigation: one is a detective and the other is a news reporter. Each suspects the other, turning the investigation into both a crime mystery and a marital power struggle.
The series stars Tessa Thompson, Jon Bernthal and Pablo Schreiber. It is the week’s clearest Netflix choice for viewers who prefer a compact mystery with a defined episode count rather than a long-running series.

People We Meet on Vacation — Jan. 9
Netflix’s Jan. 9 film premiere, People We Meet on Vacation, adapts Emily Henry’s novel of the same name. It follows longtime friends Poppy and Alex, whose annual vacations eventually force them to reconsider what their relationship means.
The film is positioned as a friends-to-lovers travel romance, making it a tonal counterpoint to the darker His & Hers. Readers who like comparing adaptations with their source material may want to read Emily Henry’s People We Meet on Vacation novel before or after watching the film; the Netflix movie is directly based on that book.
The original roundup listed Netflix Canada at $7.99 per month for Standard with Ads, $18.99 for Standard and $23.99 for Premium. These figures are time-sensitive 2026 prices, not a current pricing guarantee.
Prime Video: Canadian sci-fi, Downton Abbey and a returning spy
The Copenhagen Test — Jan. 5
The Copenhagen Test begins on Jan. 5, with new episodes arriving on Mondays. In Canada, the sci-fi spy thriller is available through the StackTV channel within Prime Video, rather than necessarily being part of the base Prime Video catalogue.
The Toronto-filmed series has a notable Canadian connection in front of the camera. Its cast includes Simu Liu, who is from Mississauga, Ontario, and Mark O’Brien, who is from St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. The original publication listed StackTV at $14.99 per month; verify the current channel price before subscribing.

Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale — Jan. 10
Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale arrives on Prime Video on Jan. 10. The historical drama continues the television franchise’s story and features returning cast members including Hugh Bonneville, Michelle Dockery and Jim Carter. Julian Fellowes is the creator of the Downton Abbey franchise.
The film originally opened in theatres on Sept. 12, 2025. Its Prime Video arrival is therefore a home-viewing option for established fans of the Crawley family rather than a new television season.
The Night Manager, Season 2 — Jan. 11
The six-episode second season of The Night Manager premieres on Prime Video on Jan. 11. Tom Hiddleston returns as Jonathan Pine, alongside Hugh Laurie and Olivia Colman. The new season continues the espionage story with a plot centred on Colombia.

What you need to watch this week
You do not need a particular device to watch these titles. Compatible smart TVs, game consoles and other streaming players may support the relevant apps, depending on the service and device model. But viewers moving among CBC Gem, Crave, Netflix, Prime Video and a StackTV channel may prefer one dedicated living-room interface.
An Apple TV 4K streaming device supports 4K HDR, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, Wi‐Fi 6 and, on the 128GB Wi‐Fi + Ethernet configuration, a wired Ethernet connection. Apple’s Canadian documentation identifies third-generation Apple TV 4K models in 64GB Wi‐Fi and 128GB Wi‐Fi + Ethernet configurations. It is not required for any title in this guide; its practical advantage is consolidating supported streaming apps on one device and making it easier to switch between them.
For a 4K HDR television setup, also check whether you already have a suitable HDMI cable for Apple TV 4K. The cable is a setup accessory, not a separate streaming subscription, and compatibility should be confirmed with the television and Apple TV 4K specifications.

- Choose Crave first for the week’s biggest event viewing. Start with The Pitt Season 2 on Jan. 8, then add Industry Season 4 on Jan. 11.
- Choose Endless Cookie for the strongest documentary and Canadian-culture pick. Its focus on the Scriver brothers makes it the most distinctive nonfiction entry in the roundup.
- Choose CBC Gem for free Canadian programming. The five returning series are spread across Jan. 5–7, and the free ad-supported tier lowers the barrier to sampling them.
- Choose Netflix for a self-contained thriller or a romance. His & Hers has six episodes; People We Meet on Vacation is a single feature film.
- Choose Prime Video for spy stories and franchise continuation. The Copenhagen Test requires the StackTV channel in the original Canadian listing, while The Night Manager and Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale are the week’s other Prime Video highlights.
Apple TV+ note
Apple TV+ remains part of the weekly column’s overall service scope, but no Apple TV+ title is featured in the researched Jan. 5–11, 2026 issue. It would be misleading to add an Apple TV+ premiere here without separate Apple-supplied release information. The Apple TV 4K mention above concerns viewing hardware, not an Apple TV+ programming recommendation.
