For the U.S. weekend of through , the three clearest choices are Reacher Season 4 on Prime Video, Don’t Say Good Luck on Netflix, and Lanterns on HBO Max. Reacher technically premiered on Wednesday, but its three-episode launch makes it the weekend’s biggest catch-up option. Don’t Say Good Luck is the most straightforward new movie, while Lanterns is the major Sunday night premiere.
Families also have Camp Rock 3 on Disney+, Apple TV has new weekly drama to catch up on, and baseball fans can choose between Friday Night Baseball and the recent MLB Field of Dreams live event. The dates below prioritize U.S. listings; release timing, catalogs, subscription requirements, and sports rights can vary by country and region.
The three to watch first
| Title | Where | Weekend status | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reacher Season 4 | Prime Video | Three episodes premiered Wednesday, August 12 | Action-thriller viewers and franchise catch-up |
| Don’t Say Good Luck | Netflix | New Friday movie, August 14 | Older teens, families, and coming-of-age drama fans |
| Lanterns | HBO Max | New Sunday series premiere, August 16 | Superhero, science-fiction, and mystery audiences |
1. Reacher Season 4 — Prime Video
Reacher Season 4 premiered on Wednesday, August 12, with three episodes available at launch. New episodes then arrive weekly through September 16, making this a catch-up recommendation rather than a literal Friday-to-Sunday premiere.
The season adapts Lee Child’s 13th Jack Reacher novel, Gone Tomorrow. A chance encounter on a subway pulls Reacher into a dangerous conspiracy, giving the new season a contained urban mystery alongside the series’ established action-thriller format. Prime Video says the show is available in more than 240 countries and territories, and the first three seasons are also available for viewers who want to start earlier in the story.

Why watch this weekend: three episodes provide enough material for a substantial Saturday viewing session without waiting for the entire season. It is the best choice here if you want a returning action franchise rather than a one-off movie.
You do not need to read the novel to follow the adaptation, but the book makes a useful companion for viewers curious about how the season’s source material handles the subway encounter and conspiracy. For that purpose, see Lee Child’s Gone Tomorrow paperback. Affiliate disclosure: a qualifying purchase through the book link may support this publication, at no additional cost to you.
2. Don’t Say Good Luck — Netflix, Friday
Don’t Say Good Luck arrives on Netflix on Friday, August 14. Sunny Sandler plays Sophie Birenbaum, a high-school musical lead whose home life becomes more dramatic than her stage life. Julia Hart directs, with Melanie Lynskey, Max Greenfield, Jack Champion, Stephanie Beatriz, Bebe Neuwirth, and Steve Buscemi also starring.
Netflix describes the film as a family-centered coming-of-age story that combines comedy with emotional drama. That combination is the film’s clearest selling point: the high-school-performance setting supplies the immediate stakes, while the family story gives the movie more weight than a straightforward backstage comedy.
Why watch this weekend: it is the most accessible new movie choice on the list, particularly for families with older teenagers and viewers who want a single, self-contained watch. It is better approached as a coming-of-age dramatic comedy than as a broad, nonstop comedy.
3. Lanterns — HBO Max, Sunday
Lanterns premieres Sunday, August 16, on HBO Max. The DC Studios series follows new recruit John Stewart, played by Aaron Pierre, and veteran Lantern Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler, as they investigate a murder in the American heartland. The case has intergalactic and cosmic implications, connecting an earth-based mystery to the larger Green Lantern mythology.
Why watch this weekend: the premise points toward a detective story set inside a superhero universe, rather than a conventional effects-first comic-book adventure. That makes it the natural Sunday-night pick for viewers who like science fiction, police mysteries, and more grounded superhero storytelling.

Best family pick: Camp Rock 3
Camp Rock 3 — Disney+, Friday
Camp Rock 3 arrives on Disney+ on Friday, August 14. The film returns to the Camp Rock musical world, bringing back the Jonas Brothers alongside a new generation of campers.
For viewers choosing between the weekend’s two new Friday movies, this is the more direct musical-nostalgia option. It is the family counterprogramming choice to Don’t Say Good Luck, whose focus is a high-school performer dealing with family drama. Disney’s listing establishes the return to the Camp Rock setting and the Jonas Brothers’ involvement; more specific plot details should not be assumed beyond that official description.
Apple TV catch-up: two weekly shows
Apple TV’s strongest options this weekend are not new Friday releases. Both series follow weekly schedules, so the useful plan is to watch the latest available episode or catch up with the season rather than wait for a weekend drop.
Women in Blue Season 2 — Apple TV
The Spanish-language crime drama Women in Blue, also known as Las Azules, returned for its second season on Wednesday, August 12. Episodes arrive weekly through September 30.

That gives the season a serious, serialized shape: this is the pick for viewers who prefer an international crime drama with an unfolding institutional mystery rather than a quick weekend binge.

Ted Lasso Season 4 — Apple TV
Ted Lasso Season 4 premiered August 5 and releases one episode each Wednesday through October 7. Jason Sudeikis returns as Ted, who now faces the challenge of coaching a second-division women’s football team. Hannah Waddingham, Juno Temple, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, and Jeremy Swift also return.
The new women’s-football setting is the season’s clearest hook. It preserves the show’s familiar optimistic comedy-drama identity while placing Ted in a different coaching environment. By the August 14–16 weekend, the latest available episode should be the one released on the Wednesday schedule; there is no basis to present Ted Lasso as having a new Friday, Saturday, or Sunday episode.

MLB Field of Dreams 2026 — Netflix, Thursday bonus
The 2026 MLB at Field of Dreams game streamed live on Netflix on Thursday, August 13, from Dyersville, Iowa. The Minnesota Twins faced the Philadelphia Phillies, with Byron Buxton and Bryce Harper identified as featured stars.
Because the game took place before the August 14–16 weekend, it is not a new weekend release. It is worth mentioning as a bonus pick for baseball fans checking Netflix’s recent live-event lineup, especially viewers drawn to the Field of Dreams setting and its nostalgia value. If you missed the live broadcast, check Netflix’s current title page and local availability rather than assuming that a replay or replay rights are identical everywhere.

A simple weekend viewing plan
- Friday night: Choose between Don’t Say Good Luck for a new coming-of-age movie and Camp Rock 3 for musical family viewing. Check Apple TV’s local Friday Night Baseball schedule if you prefer live sports.
- Saturday: Use the largest block of time for Reacher Season 4. The three-episode launch makes it the most substantial catch-up option of the weekend. If you prefer a slower mystery, add the latest available episode of Women in Blue.
- Sunday: Make Lanterns the event premiere. Viewers looking for something lighter can continue Ted Lasso, keeping in mind that its episodes arrive on Wednesdays rather than during the weekend.
Not new this weekend, but available as a completed binge
The Five Star Weekend — Peacock
The Five Star Weekend premiered on Peacock on July 9 as an eight-episode binge. It is not an August 14–16 release, so it should not be confused with the weekend’s new arrivals. It remains a possible alternative for viewers who want a completed, summery ensemble drama and would rather start and finish a season in one weekend.
