Short answer: The strongest current JioHotstar India movie picks span The Little Mermaid (1989), 10 Things I Hate About You, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Ocean’s Eleven, Kadaikutty Singam and Dhurandhar.
One important correction comes first: in India, Disney+ Hotstar is now JioHotstar. JioStar launched the combined service on February 14, 2025, after bringing together JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar. The legacy phrase remains in this article for search continuity, but the current app and catalogue are JioHotstar.
This is a curated set of excellent choices rather than a definitive ranking. Availability checked for JioHotstar India on August 13, 2026; titles and plans can change. Check the app before watching, especially because the underlying title listings were checked in late July and streaming rights vary by region.
Seven excellent movie picks on JioHotstar India
This is a curated, cross-genre shortlist rather than an objective ranking. It includes classic animation, romance, stylish comedy, family adventure, a heist movie, Tamil-language drama and current Indian action.

What happened to Disney Plus Hotstar in India?
In India, Disney+ Hotstar is now JioHotstar. JioStar launched the combined service on February 14, 2025, bringing together JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar. The older phrase remains useful when searching, but the current Indian service name and app are JioHotstar.
This guide is specifically for India. Availability checked for JioHotstar India on August 13, 2026; titles and plans can change. The individual title listings used for the shortlist were checked between July 27 and July 29, 2026, so confirm each film in the JioHotstar app immediately before watching. JustWatch is useful for discovery and cross-checking, but the app or an official title page should take priority if the listings disagree.
1. The Little Mermaid (1989): best classic animated musical
Choose it for: a family movie night, a classic Disney musical or a colourful animated fantasy.
The 1989 animated The Little Mermaid is the film intended here—not the 2023 live-action remake. It is a foundational Disney animated musical, built around a memorable undersea fantasy and the kind of song-driven storytelling that works for children while retaining considerable appeal for adults revisiting it.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesIts strongest advantage in this list is familiarity without being disposable. It is a good choice when viewers want a proper classic rather than a recent effects-heavy adventure, and its compact animated format makes it an easy film to share across generations.
Important listing check: JioHotstar’s catalogue may show separate pages for the 1989 animated film and the 2023 live-action version. The official Hotstar listing referenced during research was for the live-action film, while the India availability check for this recommendation concerned the 1989 animation. Make sure the year is correct before pressing play.
2. 10 Things I Hate About You (1999): best teen romantic comedy
Choose it for: a witty romance, a nostalgic rewatch or a movie that balances a high-school setting with an unusually strong central pairing.
The film follows Cameron, who wants to date Bianca but must first find a way for Bianca’s older sister Kat to date. That setup gives the story its comic engine while leaving room for the relationship at its centre to develop beyond a simple meet-cute.

10 Things I Hate About You is quick, accessible and full of the kind of supporting performances and sharp exchanges that make a romantic comedy easy to revisit. It is not being presented as a Disney-branded original; it is a catalogue title available through the current JioHotstar service.
The India listing was checked on July 27, 2026. Because third-party catalogue pages can lag behind platform changes, search for the exact title in JioHotstar if it does not appear immediately in a genre row.
3. The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014): best stylised comedy
Choose it for: precise visual design, eccentric characters, dry comedy and an ensemble-driven story.
Wes Anderson’s period caper follows a legendary hotel concierge and his protégé as they become entangled with a stolen painting, a family fortune and political upheaval. The plot moves like an elaborate mechanism, but the film’s real draw is the combination of its controlled colour palettes, symmetrical compositions, brisk humour and large cast of distinctive characters.

This is the list’s clearest cinephile or prestige-comedy option. It is a strong recommendation for viewers who enjoy filmmaking style as much as plot, although its deliberate presentation and deadpan tone will not suit everyone. If you want a visually authored movie rather than a conventional studio comedy, start here.
The Grand Budapest Hotel was listed on JioHotstar in India during the late-July 2026 availability check. Treat that as a time-specific catalogue result, not a permanent streaming guarantee.
4. The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023): best easy family spectacle
Choose it for: a bright, low-friction animated adventure, especially when children and adults want something straightforward and energetic.
Mario, Luigi, Peach and Bowser anchor an accessible adventure that prioritises colour, movement and recognisable game-world elements. It is the least demanding choice on this list in the best possible sense: you can put it on for a shared family session without needing to explain a complicated premise or follow a dense mythology.

- Up to 4K HDR with Dolby Vision delivers captivating, true-to-life detail[4]; and you can connect speakers that support Dolby Atmos for more immersive 3D sound
It is best approached as light spectacle rather than a serious reinvention of the characters. The film’s appeal comes from its momentum, playful references and broad audience accessibility.
Check before playing: age ratings, language tracks and subtitle options can vary by territory and can change on the platform. Confirm the current details in the JioHotstar app rather than assuming that a listing from another country or device interface applies in India.
The film was listed on JioHotstar India when checked on July 28, 2026.
5. Ocean’s Eleven (2001): best ensemble heist
Choose it for: a polished adult crowd-pleaser with a large cast, a clear objective and plenty of rewatch value.
Ocean’s Eleven follows Danny Ocean and a specialist crew as they plan a robbery targeting casinos. The pleasure is in watching the team assemble, learning what each member contributes and seeing the operation take shape. It is slick without becoming difficult to follow, which makes it a dependable choice when a group cannot agree on a more demanding film.
The movie also gives this shortlist a live-action, adult-oriented centre of gravity. It is not dependent on animation, superheroes or a romantic-comedy formula, and its ensemble structure makes it especially suitable for viewers who enjoy watching a plan unfold through several complementary personalities.
JioHotstar’s India listing was checked on July 28, 2026. As with the other Hollywood titles here, the plan attached to your account may affect access.
6. Kadaikutty Singam (2018): best Indian-language family drama
Choose it for: rural settings, multigenerational family conflict and Tamil-language cinema.
Rank #4

- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight
Kadaikutty Singam is the regional-cinema choice in this group: a Tamil family drama with a rural focus and a broad multigenerational perspective. Its appeal is less about a high-concept hook than about relationships, family identity and the tensions that emerge when several generations and expectations occupy the same social world.
Including it prevents a list of JioHotstar recommendations from becoming an all-Hollywood sampler. It is the right pick when the audience wants an Indian-language story with a family-drama centre rather than an animated title or international genre film.
JustWatch listed the film on JioHotstar in India, including an ad-supported option, when checked on July 29, 2026. Do not assume that subtitles or dubbed-language tracks are identical across every JioHotstar interface; check the current title page for the available audio and subtitle options.
7. Dhurandhar (2025): best current Indian action pick
Choose it for: a newer Indian action title and a film that feels connected to the platform’s current conversation.

It earns a place here as the current Indian action recommendation, complementing the older Hollywood choices with a more recent local release.
Be precise about the title. This entry is Dhurandhar (2025), not Dhurandhar The Revenge. They are separate films and should not be treated as interchangeable listings. JioStar reported that Dhurandhar The Revenge reached 50 million viewers during its opening weekend after arriving on JioHotstar in June 2026. That reported figure supports the sequel’s platform relevance; it is not evidence that either film is objectively better than every other movie on the service.
Search the complete title in the app, particularly if the service displays the two films together or promotes the sequel more prominently.
Which one should you watch first?
- For children and mixed-age families: start with The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Choose The Little Mermaid if you want a classic musical instead.
- For a romantic comedy: watch 10 Things I Hate About You.
- For stylish, unconventional filmmaking: choose The Grand Budapest Hotel.
- For a group movie night: Ocean’s Eleven is the safest live-action crowd-pleaser.
- For Tamil-language family drama: choose Kadaikutty Singam, then verify the subtitle options you need.
- For a newer Indian action option: choose Dhurandhar, taking care not to select the separate sequel by mistake.
Does your JioHotstar plan include these movies?
Your exact access may depend on your JioHotstar tier. The service’s January 2026 plan announcement describes Mobile, Super and Premium tiers, with monthly, quarterly and annual options. It says Hollywood content is included in Super and Premium, while Mobile users may need the Hollywood add-on.

That caveat matters for The Little Mermaid, 10 Things I Hate About You, The Grand Budapest Hotel, The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Ocean’s Eleven. Do not assume that a film listed in the catalogue is included with every plan, or that an ad-supported viewing option applies to every title. The plan structure, device limits and advertising experience can change, so check the current JioHotstar plan information before subscribing or upgrading. Prices have deliberately not been included because they are likely to change.
How to watch JioHotstar on your TV
JioHotstar’s current terms identify Android TVs, Chromecast, Apple TV, LG TVs, Fire TV and Samsung TVs among its compatible living-room viewing systems. Compatibility can change, and Full HD or 4K playback depends on the device, the television and HDCP requirements.
If your television does not have a compatible JioHotstar app or a reliable casting route, a generic 4K streaming device can be a practical way to add a modern streaming interface. Before buying one, confirm that the specific device supports JioHotstar in India, that your TV has the required HDMI and HDCP support, and that the device’s advertised resolution matches what you actually need. A 4K-capable device does not by itself guarantee that every JioHotstar title or plan will stream in 4K.
Why this is a curated list, not a permanent ranking
There is no stable, universally correct answer to the all-time best movies on Disney Plus Hotstar. JioHotstar’s catalogue changes, rights differ by country and some films move between services. Even the word “best” depends on whether the viewer wants animation, romance, spectacle, regional cinema, action or a more formally stylised film.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →The shortlist therefore means excellent choices that were listed for JioHotstar India around the stated research window. It does not claim that these are the service’s highest-rated films, that every title is a Disney production, or that the same selection is available worldwide. Search each film in the JioHotstar app before starting your movie night; if the app and a third-party availability guide disagree, trust the current app listing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Disney Plus Hotstar still available in India?
In India, Disney+ Hotstar became JioHotstar on February 14, 2025, after JioStar combined JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar. The older name may still help with search, but JioHotstar is the current service name.
Do all JioHotstar plans include these movies?
Not necessarily. JioHotstar’s January 2026 plan announcement says Hollywood content is included in Super and Premium, while Mobile users may need the Hollywood add-on. Confirm the current plan and title access in the app.
Is this list referring to the animated or live-action version of The Little Mermaid?
No. This guide means the 1989 animated film. The 2023 live-action remake is a separate title and should not be treated as confirmation that the animated version is available.
Is Dhurandhar the same movie as Dhurandhar The Revenge?
They are separate films. The recommendation is for Dhurandhar (2025), while Dhurandhar The Revenge is the sequel. Search the complete title before starting the film.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: For a classic, choose The Little Mermaid; for romance, 10 Things I Hate About You; for a stylish comedy, The Grand Budapest Hotel; for family spectacle, The Super Mario Bros. Movie; for a heist, Ocean’s Eleven; for Tamil family drama, Kadaikutty Singam; and for current Indian action, Dhurandhar. In India, look for these titles on JioHotstar—not the old Disney+ Hotstar app name—and verify availability and plan access before watching.
