Is the TikTok Apple Juice Real? The Martinelli’s Bottle Explained

Yes—the viral TikTok apple juice was real. It was Martinelli’s 10-ounce PET bottle, whose shaped plastic walls can create an apple-like crunch when compressed. The juice is genuine 100% apple juice, but Martinelli’s does not recommend biting or chewing the bottle.

Yes—the TikTok apple juice was real, but don’t bite the bottle. The viral product was Martinelli’s Gold Medal 100% Apple Juice in the 10-fluid-ounce PET plastic bottle. Its apple-shaped packaging can make a remarkably convincing crunch when compressed, while the drink inside is genuine 100% apple juice.

Yes—the TikTok apple juice was real, but the bottle should not be bitten. The viral product was Martinelli’s Gold Medal 100% Apple Juice in the 10-fluid-ounce PET plastic bottle. Its apple-shaped plastic packaging can make a sharp crunching sound when compressed, and the drink inside is genuine apple juice—not a fake beverage, an edited sound effect, or a bottle containing an apple.

What made the videos surprising was the packaging. The same small bottle is shaped and constructed in a way that can produce an apple-like crunch. Martinelli’s has acknowledged the phenomenon, while also warning consumers not to chew or bite its plastic bottles.

Which apple juice bottle went viral?

The TikTok trend involved the 10-ounce PET bottle of Martinelli’s Gold Medal 100% Apple Juice. PET is a type of plastic commonly used for beverage packaging. The bottle’s compact, rounded, apple-like design distinguishes it from Martinelli’s other products.

That distinction matters. Martinelli’s also sells apple juice in glass bottles and larger plastic containers, but the viral sound is associated specifically with the small 10-fluid-ounce PET format. A glass bottle or a different-size container should not be assumed to produce the same effect.

Martinelli’s currently lists the product on its official website as Gold Medal 100% Apple Juice in a 10-ounce PET bottle. The product may also appear in multipacks, including four-packs and nine-packs, depending on the retailer and location.

Was the sound real?

Yes. Videos that circulated widely from around 2020 showed people holding or compressing the small bottle and reacting to a crisp sound resembling the bite of a fresh apple. Martinelli’s later described the bottle as a social-media sensation and said that crushing the 10-ounce PET bottle can produce a similar sound.

The careful wording is that the bottle can make the sound. Not every squeeze will sound identical. The result can depend on the bottle’s shape, how it is held, how much pressure is applied, and the condition of the plastic.

Why does a plastic bottle sound like a bitten apple?

The best-supported explanation is a packaging-and-acoustics effect. The shaped PET walls can buckle and rub against one another as the bottle is compressed. That sudden deformation creates a distinctive series of sharp pops and crunches that our ears may associate with biting into an apple.

Martinelli’s confirms both the material and the behavior: the bottle is PET plastic, and compressing it can create an apple-like sound. However, the company’s current product and FAQ pages do not publish a complete engineering explanation of the acoustic mechanism.

Some contemporary reports attributed the effect to multiple layers of plastic in part of the bottle. That detail should not be presented as a definitive manufacturer-confirmed explanation unless supported by a directly verifiable packaging source. The more defensible conclusion is that the bottle’s rigid, shaped PET walls buckle and generate the crunch-like sound under pressure.

Is the juice inside real apple juice?

Yes. Martinelli’s identifies the drink as pasteurized 100% apple juice made from U.S.-grown fresh apples, with vitamin C listed among the ingredients. According to the company, its Gold Medal process involves picking, pressing, pasteurizing, hot-filling, capping, and cooling the juice.

In other words, the novelty was the sound of the container—not the nature of the beverage. It is not an apple-flavored substitute, a fake liquid, or a novelty product designed only for TikTok.

The brand’s product information for the larger 64-ounce apple juice format also helps illustrate why shoppers should check the packaging carefully: Martinelli’s sells the same general beverage in several bottle types and sizes, but they are not all the viral container.

Did Martinelli’s create the TikTok trend as a marketing stunt?

The available evidence does not establish that Martinelli’s secretly engineered and launched the trend as a planned TikTok campaign. The company describes consumers discovering the sound and posting videos, then documents the attention the bottle received afterward.

It is therefore more accurate to call the phenomenon consumer-led and later embraced or documented by the brand. Martinelli’s benefited from the attention, but that is not proof that the entire trend was preplanned.

The videos spread rapidly beginning in 2020, and hashtags connected with the trend accumulated hundreds of millions of views at historical points. Those figures are dependent on the platform, the specific hashtag, and the date they were measured, so they should not be treated as a current TikTok view count.

Should you bite or chew the bottle?

No. Do not place the bottle in your mouth, bite it, or chew it to recreate the video. Martinelli’s explicitly says it does not recommend chewing its plastic bottles and emphasizes consumer health and safety.

The bottle is intended to hold a beverage, not to function as a toy or a chewable object. Biting or chewing plastic can injure the mouth, damage teeth, create sharp edges, or cause pieces of material to break away. The sound can be explained without attempting the stunt.

Martinelli’s states that its plastic bottles do not contain BPA and that its packaging complies with applicable U.S. food-packaging regulations and California Proposition 65. Those statements apply to the packaging when used as intended for beverage storage. They are not permission to chew or bite the bottle.

Can you still buy the viral bottle?

The 10-ounce PET bottle remains listed by Martinelli’s, although availability, price, pack size, and retailer stock can change. The company directs shoppers to its Where to Buy function to look for local availability.

When shopping, look for wording such as:

  • 10 fl oz or 10-ounce
  • PET plastic
  • Apple-shaped PET bottle
  • Martinelli’s Gold Medal 100% Apple Juice

A useful search phrase is “Martinelli’s Gold Medal 100% Apple Juice 10 fl oz PET bottles.” Check the product photographs and specifications before buying, because a listing for Martinelli’s glass bottles or a larger container is not the same viral packaging.

If you want to see or purchase the exact format, Martinelli’s Gold Medal 100% Apple Juice 10 fl oz PET bottles are the relevant product—not simply any Martinelli’s apple juice. Local grocery stores and retailers may offer multipacks, but stock is geographically variable.

A short history of the bottle

The apple-shaped design was not invented for TikTok. S. Martinelli & Co. says the company has been family-owned and operating since 1868, and traces its distinctive “Golden Apple” bottle design to 1933.

The viral moment involved a later plastic version of that long-running visual identity: the small 10-ounce PET bottle. TikTok made the container famous for its unexpected sound, but the apple-like shape reflects decades of Martinelli’s packaging history.

One important recall clarification

A 2025 recall notice concerned a specific Martinelli’s 4/10-ounce glass-bottle product lot associated with elevated patulin. That notice was not for the 10-ounce PET bottle identified in the TikTok trend.

It would be inaccurate to generalize that recall to every Martinelli’s product or to the viral PET packaging. Food-recall information can change, however, so anyone checking a particular bottle or lot should verify the current notice and lot details through an authoritative recall source before consuming it.

The verdict

The TikTok apple juice was real in three separate ways:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. The product was a real Martinelli’s beverage.
  2. The juice was genuine pasteurized 100% apple juice.
  3. The 10-ounce PET bottle could produce a real apple-like crunch when compressed.

The part viewers should not copy is the biting. The phenomenon is a clever packaging-and-sound effect, not a safe bottle-chewing challenge.

Yes. Martinelli’s says the 10-ounce PET bottle can make a sound similar to biting a fresh apple when compressed. The exact sound can vary with the bottle and how it is handled.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: The viral TikTok product was Martinelli’s 10-ounce PET bottle of 100% apple juice. The juice is real, and the bottle can genuinely make an apple-like crunch when compressed. Do not bite or chew it; buy the PET version only if you want the exact packaging associated with the trend.
