Stephen Collins was reported to be living in Fairfield, Iowa, as of the latest location reporting reviewed. A March 2025 report citing county assessor records said he bought a home there in 2017, while photographs from 2024 showed him running errands in Iowa.
Collins, once best known as Reverend Eric Camden on 7th Heaven, has largely remained out of mainstream Hollywood since publicly acknowledging inappropriate sexual conduct involving three female minors in 2014. Here is what can be established about his location, legal status, career, marriage, and the 2025 documentary that brought the story back into the news.
Stephen Collins was reported to be living in Fairfield, Iowa, as of the latest location reporting identified for this article. The Des Moines Register reported in March 2025 that Jefferson County assessor records showed Collins bought a Fairfield home in 2017. Separate 2024 photographs published by The U.S. Sun showed him running errands in Iowa.
That is the most specific responsibly reportable answer—not an exact address, a guarantee that he remains there today, or a detailed account of his private routine. Since the 2014 scandal, Collins has largely disappeared from mainstream Hollywood, with no well-documented return to the prominent acting career he had built through 7th Heaven, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, film, television, Broadway, and writing.

Where Stephen Collins is now
Collins is publicly reported to be living in Fairfield, Iowa, a city in Jefferson County. The location has particular significance because Collins was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on October 1, 1947, but the available reporting does not establish that he has lived continuously in Fairfield since buying the property in 2017.
Property records and photographs can establish a reported connection to a place; they do not justify publishing a private address or presenting a person’s day-to-day movements as public information. There is no reliable basis in the researched reporting for claims about Collins’s health, finances, daily schedule, or exact current residence.

Why Stephen Collins was famous
Collins became internationally recognizable as Reverend Eric Camden, the father and Protestant minister at the center of the family drama 7th Heaven. The series ran for 11 seasons and turned him into one of the most recognizable television fathers of its era.
Before and alongside that role, Collins worked across several parts of the entertainment industry. He played Captain Willard Decker in Star Trek: The Motion Picture, appeared in other film and television productions, performed on Broadway, and published fiction. His career therefore did not begin with 7th Heaven; the series was the role that gave him his broadest national and international profile.

What Collins publicly acknowledged in 2014
The 2014 story centered on a recording that became public and was connected to a marriage-therapy session. In a statement to People reported by CBS News in December 2014, Collins publicly acknowledged what he described as inappropriate sexual contact with three female minors. He said the incidents occurred between 1973 and 1994, called the conduct terribly wrong, and said he had been working to atone for it.

Collins also said the recording had been made during a 2012 marriage-therapy session without his knowledge or consent. That statement addressed both the conduct discussed in the recording and the circumstances in which the recording was made.
In a later interview with Katie Couric, reported by the Associated Press and republished by CBS News, Collins gave a more specific characterization of his account. He said he was not a pedophile and described the conduct as one incident involving inappropriate touching and two incidents of exposing himself. He also said he had been in treatment for approximately 20 years.
Those details should not be compressed into a broader claim than the record supports. The careful summary is that Collins publicly acknowledged inappropriate sexual conduct involving three female minors, while his later interview disputed aspects of how that conduct was characterized and described the individual incidents in his own terms. Allegations reported from other women should also be distinguished from his public statement rather than treated as though they were all the same account.
What happened with the investigations?
Two law-enforcement investigations were reported in October 2014:
- New York: CBS and the Associated Press reported that New York police had an open investigation after a complaint involving allegations dating to the early 1970s.
- Los Angeles: Los Angeles County sheriff’s detectives opened an investigation after a woman reported that Collins exposed himself to her when she was 13 in West Hollywood in 1983.
The CBS/AP reporting said Collins had not been charged in either Los Angeles or New York at that time. Later coverage connected with the 2025 documentary continued to describe him as never having been charged or prosecuted, but the responsible formulation is narrower: no charges or prosecution are established in the available reporting reviewed for this article.

That wording matters. The researched material does not amount to an exhaustive search of every court, law-enforcement, or sealed record. It also does not support stating as settled fact that prosecutors declined to act because of the statute of limitations. Nor does it support describing Collins as convicted, imprisoned, or a registered sex offender.

Collins and actress Faye Grant married in 1985. They separated in 2012, and Collins filed for divorce that year. The divorce proceedings entered the 2014 news coverage because court filings by Grant referred to Collins’s alleged admissions.
Collins’s lawyer argued that Grant was using the allegations to seek a more favorable settlement. Grant denied trying to obtain an improper advantage. Those were opposing positions in a divorce dispute, not a judicial finding that resolves every underlying allegation.
Later entertainment reporting and documentary-related coverage identify Jenny Nagel as Collins’s wife and describe the couple as living quietly in Iowa. Because that information comes primarily from secondary reporting and database material rather than a public marriage record included in the researched sources, it is best stated as a report rather than as a fully independently verified detail.
Did Stephen Collins keep acting after the scandal?
The professional consequences were immediate. CBS/AP reported that scheduled 7th Heaven reruns were pulled, that Collins lost roles in Ted 2 and ABC’s Scandal, and that he resigned from the National Board of the Screen Actors Guild.

Entertainment databases still preserve his earlier film and television credits, but that is not evidence of an active current career. The researched sources do not show a meaningful return to mainstream acting after 2014. It is more accurate to say that his prominent acting career effectively ended or went dormant after the scandal than to claim that he has never performed or worked in any capacity since then.
His historical work remains available through archived television episodes, films, and published books, but the continued availability of an old credit is different from a professional comeback.

What is—and is not—known about his life now
The public record supports a limited picture:
- He was reported living in Fairfield, Iowa, after a 2017 home purchase documented through county assessor records.
- He has not returned to the level of television visibility associated with Reverend Eric Camden.
- His 2014 public acknowledgment led to professional fallout and renewed scrutiny.
- Available reporting reviewed here does not establish a later criminal conviction, imprisonment, or a meaningful Hollywood comeback.
- Secondary reporting identifies Jenny Nagel as his wife, but details of their private life remain limited and should not be embellished.
Claims beyond those points—particularly claims about his exact whereabouts, private relationships, health, money, or routine—would go beyond the evidence. The best-supported conclusion is that Collins has maintained a low public profile in Iowa while his former television career and the 2014 scandal continue to be revisited through archival coverage and documentaries.
