How to Watch My Hero Academia in Order: Episodes, Movies, OVAs, and More

A spoiler-safe My Hero Academia watch order covering all 170 numbered episodes, four movies, OVAs, Memories recap specials, and the More epilogue.

The simplest first-time order is release order with broad chronology-aware insertions: watch Seasons 1–3, Two Heroes, Season 4, Heroes Rising, Season 5, World Heroes’ Mission, Season 6, Season 7, You’re Next, FINAL SEASON, and finally No. 170+1, More.

The movies and OVAs are optional. If you want only the main story, watch Episodes 1–170 and then the separate More epilogue. If you want everything, use the expanded order below, including the two-part rescue-training OVA between Season 3 Episodes 61 and 62.

The quick answer

For a first viewing, use release order as the backbone: watch Seasons 1 through 7, then FINAL SEASON, and finish with the separately listed epilogue No. 170+1, More. Insert the four movies after Seasons 3, 4, 5, and 7 respectively if you want the expanded experience. The OVAs are optional, with the two-part rescue-training story fitting most cleanly between Episodes 61 and 62 of Season 3.

If you only want the essential narrative, watch the numbered television episodes from Episode 1 through Episode 170, followed by More. None of the four movies is required to understand the television ending, and the OVAs can be skipped without losing the main plot.

My Hero Academia watch order for first-time viewers

Step What to watch Why this placement works
1 Season 1, Episodes 1–13 The starting point for Midoriya, One For All, U.A. High School, Class 1-A, All Might, and the League of Villains.
2 Season 2, Episodes 14–38 Completes the Sports Festival, Hero Killer, and Final Exams material.
3 Season 3, Episodes 39–63 Watch the season in order. Completionists can pause after Episode 61 for the two-part Do-or-Die Survival Training OVA.
4 My Hero Academia: Two Heroes The least disruptive first-film placement is after Season 3 and before Season 4.
5 Season 4, Episodes 64–88 Covers the Shie Hassaikai, Remedial Course, U.A. School Festival, and opening Pro Hero material.
6 My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising Works after Season 4, once the students’ developing abilities and relationships are established, and before the central Season 5 story.
7 Season 5, Episodes 89–113 Continue through the Pro Hero, Joint Training, Endeavor Agency, and Meta Liberation Army material.
8 My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission Best watched after the major Season 5 developments, especially the Endeavor Agency and Meta Liberation Army material.
9 Season 6, Episodes 114–138 Watch the Paranormal Liberation War and Dark Hero material without interruption.
10 Season 7, Episodes 139–159 Watch the Star and Stripe, U.A. Traitor, and Final War material. The four Memories specials are optional beforehand.
11 My Hero Academia: You’re Next This fourth film belongs broadly to the Season 7 era and is least spoiler-prone after Season 7.
12 FINAL SEASON, Episodes 160–170 The complete final television season.
13 No. 170+1, More The separate epilogue, set eight years after the characters’ U.A. graduation.

You do not need to stop after every episode to fit in every extra. The movies and OVAs are largely self-contained, so release order with a few broad chronology-aware insertions is easier to follow than a highly fragmented episode-by-episode schedule.

The television anime episode and arc order

The television series is the story’s backbone. It contains eight seasons and 170 numbered episodes, with the final television installment, Episode 170, airing on December 13, 2025. The official anime listing uses FINAL SEASON for Episodes 160–170; some English-language guides call this Season 8, so both labels refer to the same concluding television run.

Television section Episodes Main material
Season 1 1–13 Entrance Exam, Quirk Apprehension Test, Battle Trial, and U.S.J. incident.
Season 2 14–38 U.A. Sports Festival, Vs. Hero Killer, and Final Exams material.
Season 3 39–63 Major mid-series escalation and the lead-in to the provisional-license material.
Season 4 64–88 Shie Hassaikai, Remedial Course, U.A. School Festival, and opening Pro Hero material.
Season 5 89–113 Pro Hero continuation, Joint Training, Endeavor Agency, and Meta Liberation Army material.
Season 6 114–138 Paranormal Liberation War followed by the Dark Hero period.
Season 7 139–159 Star and Stripe, U.A. Traitor, and Final War material.
FINAL SEASON 160–170 The concluding television storyline.
No. 170+1, More Separate epilogue An additional ending set eight years after U.A. graduation. The official site lists its broadcast date as May 2, 2026.

Where the four My Hero Academia movies fit

All four theatrical films are optional side stories. They add action, character interaction, and background, but none is a prerequisite for understanding the numbered television episodes or the ending.

Movie Recommended placement What to know
Two Heroes After Season 3, before Season 4 Midoriya and All Might visit I-Island and meet David Shield, a scientist connected to All Might’s past. Some watch-order guides place it around the opening Season 4 setup, but watching it after all of Season 3 is the simplest spoiler-safe choice.
Heroes Rising After Season 4, before Season 5 A training assignment takes Class 1-A to Nabu Island, where they face Nine. The students’ abilities and relationships are better established by the end of Season 4.
World Heroes’ Mission After Season 5, before Season 6 Midoriya, Bakugo, and Todoroki become involved in an international crisis led by a villain seeking to eliminate Quirk users. The film is self-contained but fits after Season 5’s major power and character developments.
You’re Next After Season 7, before FINAL SEASON An original story supervised by Kohei Horikoshi and positioned in the broad Season 7 period. Waiting until Season 7 is complete minimizes the risk of seeing later costumes, abilities, or character circumstances too early.

Why not place the films at exact episode breaks? Their chronology is broad rather than essential to the television plot, and different guides may choose slightly different stopping points. For a first viewing, the season-level placements above preserve context without repeatedly interrupting the main story.

OVA and original-animation order

The franchise’s extras are often called OVAs by viewers, while the official anime material also uses the term original animation episodes. They are optional. The following order gives each one a sensible place without pretending that every side story is essential.

Extra Recommended placement Is it necessary?
Training of the Dead After Season 2, Episode 38 No. It is an original story involving Class 1-A and students from another school, so the characters and school relationships are easier to recognize after Season 2.
Make It! Do-or-Die Survival Training
Survive! Do-or-Die Survival Training
After Season 3, Episode 61, before Episodes 62–63 No, but it is the most useful chronological insertion. The two-part story follows Class 1-A during rescue training shortly before the provisional-license material.
HLB During the Season 5 period; conveniently after Episode 107 and before Episodes 108–113 No. It is a light, baseball-themed original episode.
Laugh! As If You Are in Hell During the Season 5 period; conveniently after Episode 107 and before Episodes 108–113 No. Midoriya, Bakugo, and Todoroki are interning at Endeavor’s agency in this winter-set original story.
U.A. Heroes Battle Safest for a first viewing: after Season 6. Chronology-focused viewers may place it before the Season 5 Endeavor Agency arc. No. It is a light, card-game-centered school story and does not materially change the main plot.
My Hero Academia: Memories After Season 6 and before Season 7 Optional. These four recap specials are useful after a long break, but redundant if you have just watched Season 6.

Expanded completionist order

Use this version if you want the movies and original-animation episodes in their most useful chronological positions while keeping the television narrative intact.

  1. Season 1, Episodes 1–13.
  2. Season 2, Episodes 14–38.
  3. Training of the Dead.
  4. Season 3, Episodes 39–61.
  5. Make It! Do-or-Die Survival Training and Survive! Do-or-Die Survival Training.
  6. Season 3, Episodes 62–63.
  7. Two Heroes.
  8. Season 4, Episodes 64–88.
  9. Heroes Rising.
  10. Season 5, Episodes 89–107.
  11. HLB and Laugh! As If You Are in Hell.
  12. Season 5, Episodes 108–113.
  13. World Heroes’ Mission.
  14. Season 6, Episodes 114–138.
  15. U.A. Heroes Battle. This is the safest placement for a first-time viewer, even though its described chronology can place it earlier.
  16. My Hero Academia: Memories, the four optional recap specials.
  17. Season 7, Episodes 139–159.
  18. You’re Next.
  19. FINAL SEASON, Episodes 160–170.
  20. No. 170+1, More.

What is essential, and what can you skip?

Essential for the complete anime story

  • Seasons 1–7, Episodes 1–159.
  • FINAL SEASON, Episodes 160–170.
  • More, if you want the separately released epilogue rather than stopping with the television finale.

Optional films

Two Heroes, Heroes Rising, World Heroes’ Mission, and You’re Next are not required bridges between seasons. Watch them for additional character moments and self-contained theatrical action, not because the main series assumes that you have seen them.

Optional original-animation episodes

The OVAs add comedy, training, or side adventures. The Do-or-Die Survival Training pair is the only extra with a particularly useful chronological position, because it sits immediately before the provisional-license material. Even that pair remains optional.

Optional Memories specials

Memories is recap material with added scenes, not a new season. Watch it before Season 7 only if you need a refresher after a long break. If you have reached Season 7 immediately after Season 6, skip it.

Release order versus chronological order

Release order is the better default because it minimizes confusion and preserves the way the franchise originally introduced its characters, powers, and references. A strict chronological approach sounds precise, but it can force unnecessary stops in the middle of a season for stories that do not affect the main narrative.

The practical compromise is chronology-aware insertion: keep each television season together, place the Do-or-Die OVA between Episodes 61 and 62, and place the films between seasons as shown above. This gives you the relevant character and power context without turning the series into a stop-start checklist.

Where to watch and how to avoid availability mistakes

Streaming availability changes by country, licensing period, language track, and date. A service that carries the television series in one territory may not carry all four movies or every OVA there. Film announcements from Crunchyroll and platform listings from the official Japanese franchise site are useful evidence for specific territories and dates, but they should not be treated as permanent worldwide availability.

Before starting, search the current catalog in your country for the exact title you need. Check whether the listing includes the numbered episodes, the desired subtitle or dub track, and the movie or OVA separately. If a film is unavailable on your main service, you can continue the television order and return to the optional movie later without losing the main plot.

Physical collection options

Physical editions are useful when a streaming catalog is incomplete or rotates titles. For the numbered story, compare editions such as a My Hero Academia Season 1 Blu-ray; check the disc region, subtitle options, dub language, and included episode range before buying.

Readers who want the source material rather than another viewing edition may prefer a My Hero Academia manga box set. VIZ identifies Box Set 1 as a collection of the first 20 manga volumes, so it is a reading companion to the anime, not a box containing the television episodes.

Completionists can also look for movie-specific releases such as a My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising Blu-ray. Treat every physical-media listing as edition- and region-dependent: price, stock, language tracks, included extras, and retailer availability can change.

Where does More fit?

No. 170+1, More comes after FINAL SEASON Episode 170. It is listed separately rather than as ordinary Episode 171. The official anime site describes it as an epilogue set eight years after U.A. graduation and lists its broadcast date as May 2, 2026. Do not watch it before the final television season; it is designed as the last stop in the anime order.

Bottom line

Watch the television anime straight through in episode order, add Two Heroes after Season 3, Heroes Rising after Season 4, World Heroes’ Mission after Season 5, and You’re Next after Season 7. Add the OVAs only if you want extra material, place the Do-or-Die pair between Season 3 Episodes 61 and 62, and finish everything with FINAL SEASON Episodes 160–170 followed by More.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to watch the My Hero Academia movies?
