Spoilers throughout. The seven villains associated with Kraven the Hunter are Kraven, Calypso, Rhino, the Foreigner, Chameleon, Nikolai Kravinoff, and Dr. Miles Warren. That is an editorial count rather than an official Sony roster: five recognizable Marvel characters appear in the main story, Nikolai is the film’s central human antagonist, and Warren is an unseen scientist identified as the source of the characters’ mutations.
Spoilers throughout: Kraven the Hunter does not present seven traditional costumed supervillains in a single lineup. The number is an editorial count: five recognizable Marvel characters who appear in the main story—Kraven, Calypso, Rhino, the Foreigner, and Chameleon—plus Kraven’s father, Nikolai Kravinoff, and the unseen scientist Dr. Miles Warren, better known in Marvel Comics as the Jackal.
That distinction matters because Sony’s 2024 film radically changes the usual Spider-Man-villain setup. Sergei Kravinoff is the protagonist and a violent vigilante who hunts criminals, while the family trauma created by Nikolai, and the experiments connected to Warren, generate the film’s villain network.

1. Sergei Kravinoff — Kraven the Hunter
Kraven is both the film’s hero and its most complicated villain. In Marvel Comics, Sergei Kravinoff is a classic Spider-Man enemy and a member of the Sinister Six. The movie, however, begins before that rivalry and reframes him as a criminal-hunting antihero.

As a child, Sergei is mauled by a lion during a safari. Calypso saves his life with a mystical serum, and the experience leaves him with heightened strength, speed, agility, endurance, and animal-like senses. As an adult, he uses those abilities to hunt traffickers, poachers, gangsters, and other criminals.
Kraven’s targets are different from those of his comic-book counterpart, but his identity has not been replaced. The film is presenting an origin for the same Sergei Kravinoff who traditionally becomes one of Spider-Man’s most dangerous adversaries. His brutality is also central to the character’s moral ambiguity: he may target people who deserve punishment, but he often operates through killing, fear, and personal vengeance rather than lawful justice.
Why Kraven counts as a villain
“Villain” describes Kraven’s Marvel identity and comic-book history more accurately than his immediate role in this movie. Kraven the Hunter positions him as the protagonist, but it also shows how violence, pride, and Nikolai’s influence shape the man he becomes. The movie is therefore an origin story for a future Spider-Man villain told from that character’s point of view.
2. Calypso Ezili — Calypso
Calypso is Kraven’s childhood friend and adult ally, not a straightforward antagonist in the film. She is played as a lawyer who combines legal knowledge, intelligence gathering, and mystical expertise. When Sergei is dying after the lion attack, young Calypso gives him the serum that changes his life.
As adults, Calypso helps Kraven identify and pursue criminal figures. Her motivation is especially tied to victims of people such as Semyon Chorney, and she sees her violent partnership with Kraven as a form of justice. That makes her morally compromised, but not equivalent to the film’s principal criminals.
The comic-book Calypso is substantially more villainous. She is a Haitian voodoo priestess and a recurring Kraven associate whose stories involve mystical powers, hypnotism, potions, poisons, and manipulation. The film retains the supernatural connection while making her closer to a morally ambiguous co-lead.
Movie Calypso versus comic Calypso
- In the movie: Calypso is a lawyer, information source, childhood friend, and mystical ally.
- In the comics: she is a more overtly dangerous priestess associated with magic, psychological control, and Kraven’s Spider-Man conflicts.
- The important continuity link: both versions connect Calypso to Kraven’s powers and to the supernatural side of his story.
3. Aleksei Sytsevich — Rhino
Aleksei Sytsevich is the film’s main physical antagonist. He begins as a Russian criminal rival of Nikolai Kravinoff and later becomes Rhino through an experimental transformation. Netflix’s official film guide identifies Alessandro Nivola as Aleksei/Rhino and describes him as a Russian mercenary with a skin condition and rhino-related powers.

Rather than primarily wearing an artificial Rhino suit or bonded hide, this Aleksei undergoes a biological or mutagenic process. His skin hardens, his body becomes more powerful, and he can transform into a horned human-rhinoceros hybrid.
Rhino’s conflict is not only about criminal ambition. He has spent years being dominated and humiliated by Nikolai, a man who represents the power Aleksei wants for himself. That insecurity helps explain why he pursues greater strength and why his rivalry with Nikolai becomes personal.
Rhino eventually kidnaps Dmitri and uses him as bait to force Kraven into a final confrontation. Kraven defeats him, making Aleksei the clearest immediate threat resolved by the film’s ending.

Rhino’s biggest adaptation change
The name and general concept remain recognizable, but the mechanism changes. Classic Rhino stories generally center on a powerful artificial hide or suit created through experimentation. The film instead emphasizes a mutagenic biological transformation, linking Rhino directly to the same scientific thread that later creates Chameleon.
4. The Foreigner
The Foreigner is Rhino’s assassin and chief enforcer. Christopher Abbott plays the character as a highly skilled killer whose unusual ability makes him seem to appear suddenly behind his targets.
The film suggests that this effect comes from hypnosis or the disruption of an opponent’s perception. It does not provide an extensive explanation, but the power is more than ordinary speed or stealth. The Foreigner can interfere with what a person experiences, creating gaps in awareness that resemble teleportation.
That idea comes from the comics. Marvel’s Foreigner is a mercenary, martial artist, strategist, and assassin with limited hypnotic abilities. Through eye contact, he can make victims lose several seconds of awareness. To the victim, he appears to have vanished and reappeared somewhere else.
In the movie, the Foreigner also has a personal reason to pursue Kraven: Kraven killed his brother. That vendetta gives the character a direct connection to Sergei, although the film spends less time developing him than it does Rhino or the Kravinoff family.
5. Dmitri Kravinoff — Chameleon
Dmitri Kravinoff is Kraven’s half-brother and the character who becomes Chameleon. Before receiving any scientific enhancement, Dmitri already has an extraordinary talent for imitating voices, mannerisms, and personalities. He can observe another person and reproduce enough of their behavior to deceive people around him.
His family background is crucial. Dmitri grows up under the same abusive, domineering father as Sergei. Nikolai treats weakness as shame and trains his sons to associate survival with violence. Sergei sometimes protects Dmitri, but their relationship remains complicated by Sergei’s own disappearance and by the family’s constant competition.
After Rhino takes Dmitri captive, he is brought to a New York scientist. The procedure gives him more literal appearance-changing abilities, transforming an already gifted impersonator into the film’s version of Chameleon.
The ending does not make Dmitri a fully developed supervillain yet. Instead, it turns him into the film’s most important unresolved threat. Nikolai’s control over the family has been broken, but Dmitri’s new powers and years of resentment leave open the possibility that he will become a future enemy of Kraven—and eventually of Spider-Man.

Chameleon is one of Spider-Man’s earliest villains and is traditionally Kraven’s half-brother. The film preserves that important relationship while expanding the family drama around it. Its major change is the path to his powers: movie Dmitri begins with realistic impersonation skills and only later receives scientific enhancement that makes his transformations more literal.

6. Nikolai Kravinoff — the crime-lord father
Nikolai Kravinoff is Sergei and Dmitri’s father, a ruthless Russian crime lord, and the film’s principal human source of abuse and corruption. Russell Crowe plays him as a man who treats power as entitlement and weakness as humiliation.
Nikolai trains his sons to hunt and kill, but his influence is more damaging than simple criminal instruction. He teaches them that violence is a family duty and that compassion is a liability. Sergei’s relationship with him drives the origin story: the son’s anger, rejection of his father’s worldview, and later campaign against criminals all grow out of that destructive relationship.
Nikolai also helps create Chameleon’s future villainy. Dmitri spends his life seeking approval or escape from a father who repeatedly diminishes him. Sergei’s attempts to protect his brother cannot erase the damage, and Dmitri’s transformation becomes a possible continuation of the cycle rather than a clean liberation from it.

Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Is Nikolai a Marvel supervillain?
Not in the same sense as Rhino, Chameleon, or the Foreigner. Nikolai is best described as a film antagonist and crime lord. He does not have a classic Spider-Man villain codename or an established costumed-supervillain identity comparable to Doctor Octopus or the Green Goblin.
He belongs in a seven-villain explanation because he is central to the film’s moral architecture. Nikolai creates the trauma, ideology, and family conflict that produce both Kraven and Chameleon. Calling him a movie antagonist is accurate; presenting him as a long-established comic-book supervillain would overstate his Marvel status.
7. Dr. Miles Warren — the Jackal
Dr. Miles Warren is the film’s unseen scientific villain. He is not shown as an active on-screen character, but his name is attached to the experiments that alter Aleksei and Dmitri.
Warren is identified as a biochemist and cloning expert. In Marvel Comics, he is known as the Jackal, a major Spider-Man villain associated with genetic experimentation and cloning. The movie uses him primarily as an explanation for its transformations: Warren’s science helps turn Aleksei into Rhino and Dmitri into Chameleon.

Because Warren is only referenced, he should be separated from the five recognizable Marvel identities who actively participate in the main narrative. Nevertheless, his role is concrete rather than speculative. The film names the scientist responsible for the experiments, making him an important part of the story’s villain structure even though he never appears.
Warren is also the clearest unresolved scientific thread. The film leaves open questions about his research, his motives, and the extent of his work. That makes him sequel-oriented setup, but it does not confirm that another film will be made or that a specific continuation is planned.

Semyon Chorney is a named Russian crime lord played by Yuri Kolokolnikov. He is connected to Calypso’s backstory and becomes one of Kraven’s criminal targets. His actions help motivate Calypso’s pursuit of justice and show the kind of criminal network Kraven and Calypso are trying to dismantle.

Chorney is worth mentioning because viewers making a list of every antagonist in the film may count him. He is not, however, one of Marvel’s established supervillain identities. If the article promises “seven Marvel villains,” Chorney should be treated as an additional criminal antagonist rather than substituted for Miles Warren.
How the movie changes the comic-book villains
| Character | Comic-book identity | Film’s version |
|---|---|---|
| Kraven | Spider-Man supervillain and Sinister Six member | A criminal-hunting vigilante whose origin is told before his traditional Spider-Man rivalry |
| Calypso | Haitian voodoo priestess associated with magic, hypnotism, potions, poisons, and Kraven | A lawyer and mystical ally who helps Kraven pursue criminals |
| Rhino | A powerful villain traditionally associated with an artificial Rhino hide or suit | Aleksei undergoes a biological or mutagenic transformation into a horned hybrid |
| The Foreigner | Mercenary, martial artist, strategist, assassin, and hypnotist | Rhino’s assassin, using perception-disrupting abilities that resemble sudden teleportation |
| Chameleon | One of Spider-Man’s earliest villains and Kraven’s half-brother | Dmitri, Kraven’s half-brother, gains literal transformation abilities after scientific enhancement |
| Miles Warren | The Jackal, a geneticist and cloning antagonist | An unseen scientist whose experiments create or enable the film’s mutations |
| Nikolai Kravinoff | Not presented here as a classic costumed Marvel supervillain | A movie-specific crime lord and abusive father who drives the family conflict |
What the ending means for the villains
Kraven defeats Rhino, while Dmitri survives his captivity and scientific transformation. Nikolai’s influence over the family is broken, but the damage he caused remains. Dmitri is now free of his father’s direct control and has powers that could make him a serious future threat.
The ending therefore resolves the immediate conflict without closing the wider villain story. Chameleon and Miles Warren are the strongest unresolved threads: one is a newly transformed member of Kraven’s family, and the other is the scientist behind the transformations. That is reasonable sequel setup, but it should not be confused with confirmation of a future movie or continuation.
Why there are “seven” villains in this explanation
The count combines different categories:
- Five recognizable Marvel characters active in the story: Kraven, Calypso, Rhino, the Foreigner, and Chameleon.
- One major human antagonist: Nikolai Kravinoff, the crime lord and abusive father.
- One unseen scientific antagonist: Dr. Miles Warren, the future Jackal, whose experiments enable the transformations.
So the headline is useful, but it is not an official Sony roster. It is an editorial way of explaining the film’s full network of antagonists while being honest about the difference between classic Marvel villains, a film-specific crime lord, and an off-screen scientist.

Bottom line: Kraven the Hunter turns a traditional Spider-Man villain family into an origin network. Nikolai creates the trauma, Miles Warren creates the mutations, Rhino and the Foreigner supply the immediate external danger, Calypso provides mystical and practical support, and Dmitri emerges as the unresolved Chameleon threat. Kraven himself remains a Marvel villain by identity and history, even though this film temporarily casts him as its violent antihero.
