That tool was built for the movie’s limited 2025 theatrical release. Today, the domain redirects to Netflix, where the film is available to stream; theaters may still schedule occasional special engagements, but availability must be checked for a specific date and location.
Netflix built a theater finder for Frankenstein
The website frankensteingdt.com was created to help audiences find limited theatrical screenings of Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. Visitors could search by city, state, or ZIP code and see participating theaters and dates—an especially useful feature because the film did not receive a uniform nationwide release.

There is an important distinction for anyone looking for showtimes now: the dedicated site no longer functions as a comprehensive live theater database. It currently redirects to Netflix’s main Frankenstein title page. The film is available to stream on Netflix, while theatrical screenings may still appear as short-term special engagements.
The film first opened in New York and Los Angeles
Del Toro’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus began its select theatrical run on October 17, 2025. The initial engagement was concentrated in New York City and Los Angeles, a release pattern associated with the film’s awards-qualifying theatrical window.

That opening was not designed to provide every market with the same daily schedule. Instead, theaters and dates varied by location. The official ZIP-code search therefore answered a practical question that ordinary movie listings could make difficult: whether this particular Netflix film was playing anywhere near a viewer at all.
The film stars Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as the Creature, with Mia Goth also among the principal cast. Netflix describes the story as one about a brilliant but egotistical scientist whose experiment brings a creature to life and ultimately destroys both creator and creation.
More markets followed on October 24
Additional markets began appearing from October 24, 2025. The expansion still differed from a conventional wide release: some cities had limited dates, some screenings were held at independent cinemas, and the length of the engagement depended on local demand and theater programming.
That release pattern explains why the old website emphasized a city, state, and ZIP-code search instead of presenting one nationwide theater list. A theater list without a date and location would have been easy to misunderstand, particularly as screenings opened and expired at different times.
When did Frankenstein come to Netflix?
Netflix scheduled the film’s streaming debut for November 7, 2025. It is now available on Netflix as a 2025 R-rated drama with an approximately 2-hour, 32-minute runtime. Netflix also lists multiple audio and subtitle options.

For most viewers, Netflix is now the dependable way to watch the film. The former showtime finder should be treated as a record of the movie’s theatrical promotion, not as proof that a theater near you currently has tickets available.
Are theaters still playing the film?
Possibly, but not as part of a permanent nationwide run. Frankenstein has returned for occasional theatrical engagements after its initial release, including special-format and awards-related screenings.
- January 2026: A reported re-release included a 35mm presentation at New York’s Paris Theater and Los Angeles’s Egyptian Theatre, with additional markets reported in Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Washington, DC.
- March 9, 2026: Cinemark listed the film as part of its Oscars Movie Week programming.
These examples show that the film can return for repertory, awards-season, 35mm, or other event screenings. They do not establish that it is currently playing in every named city—or anywhere else on a particular date.
How to check for a screening near you
- Choose the date and geography first. Theater availability can change quickly, so begin with the city or ZIP code and the specific day you want to attend.
- Check local cinema websites. Search the major chains serving your area as well as independent theaters, art-house cinemas, and repertory venues.
- Look for event language. Listings may describe the screening as 35mm, Oscars Movie Week, a repertory presentation, or a special engagement rather than as a standard first-run booking.
- Confirm the listing directly before traveling. Event dates can expire, and a search result or older article may remain visible after tickets disappear.
Do not publish or rely on a universal theater list without stating its date and geography. A screening listed in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Atlanta, or Washington, DC does not mean the film is available throughout that region.
What is the film about?
Del Toro wrote and directed the film as a new adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel. Its central figure is Victor Frankenstein, a gifted scientist whose ambition leads him to create life. The experiment sets the creator and the Creature on a destructive course, with the film focusing on the consequences for both of them.

- Give the gift of movies! Regal gift cards are good towards admissions and concessions.
- Regal Entertainment Group is the largest motion picture exhibitor in the world and includes all Regal Cinemas, Edwards Theatres and United Artists Theatres.
- Regal Entertainment Group has over 530 locations in 40 states.
- No returns and no refunds on gift cards.
That premise, along with the cast led by Isaac and Elordi, makes the movie a natural fit for both theatrical presentation and later collector editions. The film’s streaming availability does not eliminate the possibility of occasional cinema screenings, but it does mean viewers no longer need to wait for a local theater to schedule one.
How to watch Frankenstein at home
The current home-viewing option is Netflix. Use the official Netflix catalog to search for Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, then check the title page for the availability, audio, subtitle, and device options attached to your account and region.
For collectors, Criterion has announced Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein 4K UHD release for October 27, 2026. The forthcoming package includes a 4K digital master of the theatrical version and a 4K digital master of Frankenstein: The Reborn Cut, described as a new extended director’s cut.
The announced Criterion edition also includes Dolby Atmos sound, a Guillermo del Toro commentary on the Reborn Cut, a making-of documentary, craft conversations, moderated question-and-answer sessions, an interview with composer Alexandre Desplat, subtitles, descriptive audio, and an essay by Christopher Frayling. Because the release date is in the future as of August 13, 2026, readers should confirm retailer availability, pricing, and format details before ordering.
The extended version is the main reason collectors may want the physical edition rather than a standard home-viewing option: Criterion’s extended Reborn Cut gives the set a meaningful difference beyond simply transferring the theatrical film to disc.

The old Frankenstein website did show which theaters were playing the film during its 2025 limited release. Today, however, it redirects to Netflix and should not be described as a live, nationwide showtime finder. Stream the film on Netflix, or search local theater listings for a specific date if you are looking for a one-off 35mm, repertory, awards-season, or other special engagement.
