Why the dates matter
The original headline reports from July 2024 and the later cause-of-death reports are different parts of the story. Jabbar’s death was announced on July 2, funeral coverage followed during the next week, and the reported medical finding was not published until September. The family’s initial request for privacy should therefore not be presented as a disclosure of the cause of death.
Reports about Jabbar’s private life that were not confirmed by family, medical authorities or reliable reporting should not be treated as established facts. The supportable record is her death, the family’s privacy request, the July funeral arrangements, the community remembrances and the later medical-examiner reporting.
