See the Official Video for “OMG,” the Song That Became the 2024 Mets’ Resurgence Soundtrack

José Iglesias’s “OMG” became the unofficial soundtrack of the 2024 New York Mets. Here is how the song, official video, blue-and-orange sign, and Citi Field ritual came to define the team’s resurgence—without confusing cultural momentum with proof that music caused the wins.

José Iglesias’s “OMG” did not cause the New York Mets to start winning. It gave their 2024 turnaround a sound, a gesture, and a shared celebration. The official video shows the song’s broader communal spirit, while the Mets turned it into a clubhouse and Citi Field ritual.

José Iglesias’s “OMG” did not cause the New York Mets to start winning. It gave their 2024 turnaround a sound, a gesture, and a shared celebration. After a home run at Citi Field, players could hold up a blue-and-orange “OMG” sign. After a victory, they could sing along with Iglesias. The official music video turns that same spirit into a larger communal party, with workers dancing before the song reaches an outdoor celebration.

Watch the official video, Jose Iglesias Candelita – OMG – (Official Music Video), on Candelita’s official artist YouTube channel—not a fan re-upload. Then the Mets connection becomes easier to understand: “OMG” was both a catchy song and a repeatable ritual that helped the 2024 team express its joy.

Who made “OMG”?

The song was written and performed by José Iglesias, the Mets infielder who records under the stage name Candelita. Iglesias joined New York on May 31, 2024, and used “OMG” as his walk-up music.

Its message is uncomplicated and celebratory. Iglesias has described the song as an invitation to live in the moment, enjoy life, and focus on health and prosperity. In an ESPN interview, he sang the opening line and translated its basic idea as throwing away the bad things while asking for health and prosperity.

That positive message mattered because Iglesias was not presenting “OMG” as a detached side project. He brought it directly into the Mets’ clubhouse and ballpark, where it quickly became connected to a team trying to reverse a disappointing start.

Why Mets fans connected the song to the resurgence

The timing was almost impossibly effective. Iglesias’s first Mets appearance came on May 31. On June 3, he had a three-hit game. From that date through June 27, the Mets went 15-4 while “OMG” was being played in the clubhouse after wins.

The club’s broader record tells the same story without pretending that music was a statistical cause. New York went 19-8 from Iglesias’s arrival through July 2 and 26-13 from his May 31 debut through the All-Star break. Those numbers explain why supporters began treating “OMG” as the soundtrack of the comeback. They do not prove that the song improved the team’s performance.

The Mets had other symbols of their unlikely revival, including Grimace’s first pitch at Citi Field on June 12. But Grimace was a visual meme, while “OMG” supplied a recurring audio cue. It could play in the clubhouse, accompany a home run, fill a stadium, and be performed by the players themselves.

From walk-up music to a Citi Field performance

The team adopted the song as a group activity. Players reportedly wore “OMG” shirts at their lockers, including shirts with a QR code directing people to Iglesias’s music. Teammates also joined Iglesias for a performance connected to a Citi Field event.

The most visible moment came on June 28, the day the official music video was published. After the Mets defeated the Houston Astros 7-2, Iglesias performed “OMG” for 32,465 fans at Citi Field. His teammates watched from the first-base side before joining him on the field during the chorus.

Iglesias presented the scene as a reflection of the team’s closeness. He repeatedly emphasized that the celebration was about winning and the Mets’ energy, not simply about promoting his recording career. That distinction helps explain why the song felt authentic to fans: it was being used by the clubhouse before it became a large-scale stadium attraction.

What the official “OMG” video shows

The video expands the song beyond baseball. Contemporary coverage described dancing workers—including an Amazon worker, a mechanic, and a cook—before the video ends with an outdoor party.

That choice of imagery is important. “OMG” is not presented only as a Mets novelty or a baseball victory anthem. Its characters are ordinary workers, and its payoff is collective celebration. The video’s world is consistent with the way Iglesias and the Mets used the song: people come together, put difficult moments aside, and enjoy a shared occasion.

For viewers looking for the original, the official upload is titled Jose Iglesias Candelita – OMG – (Official Music Video). The description identifies it as the official video and points listeners toward the song on their preferred streaming service. The official upload is the best reference for the visual concept; Mets coverage provides the baseball context.

The blue-and-orange “OMG” sign became a ritual

The song’s most durable Mets expression may not have been the performance itself. At Citi Field, the organization began playing “OMG” after Mets home runs, while players posed with a blue-and-orange “OMG” sign.

Pitcher Luis Severino described the sign as part of a clubhouse atmosphere that kept the players happy and reinforced the feeling that the team could come back and win. The sign worked because it was immediate and recognizable. A player could hold it up after a big moment, television cameras could find it, and fans instantly understood the reference.

That made “OMG” more than background music. It became a piece of performance: the home run, the sign, the song, the players’ reaction, and the crowd’s recognition all reinforced one another. Fans who want to participate in that blue-and-orange visual language can look for an official New York Mets baseball cap or other licensed team apparel, while remembering that a Mets cap is fan gear—not merchandise specifically connected to the “OMG” recording.

Did “OMG” actually fuel the Mets’ winning streak?

Not in a causally provable sense. The defensible explanation is chronological and cultural, not statistical. The Mets were already playing much better baseball when “OMG” became part of the clubhouse routine. Iglesias was also contributing directly as a player through his hitting, defense, baserunning, and presence in the clubhouse.

Brandon Nimmo stressed that the song was only one part of Iglesias’s impact. That is the right way to understand the story. “OMG” did not manufacture better pitching, hitting, or fielding. It helped give a changing team a common emotional language at a moment when confidence and connection were becoming visible.

So the accurate shorthand is not “the song won games.” It is: “OMG” became the soundtrack and social shorthand for the Mets’ 2024 resurgence.

How the song reached beyond the Mets

The baseball attention translated into measurable interest in the music. The Associated Press reported in October 2024 that “OMG” had generated more than 2 million U.S. on-demand audio and video streams through October 10, according to Luminate. At that time, the official video had nearly 4.5 million YouTube views.

The song also debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Digital Song Sales chart in July. In October, Iglesias released a remix with Pitbull and Silvestre Dangond. Amazon Music lists “OMG (Remix)” by Candelita, Pitbull, and Silvestre Dangond as a two-minute, 11-second track released October 11, 2024. Anyone who wants to hear the expanded version can listen to the “OMG” remix; it should be treated as a listening option, not as physical Mets merchandise.

Those 2024 stream and view counts are historical snapshots, not current totals. They show how quickly the Mets connection pushed the song into wider public attention, but they should not be presented as up-to-date figures.

“OMG” followed the Mets into October

The song and signs did not disappear when the regular season ended. MLB reported that the celebratory “OMG” signs appeared during the Mets’ playoff-clinching celebration in Atlanta and during their Wild Card and Division Series victories over Milwaukee and Philadelphia.

In November 2024, one of the team’s signs entered the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s permanent collection. That acquisition captures the song’s unusual afterlife. A piece of signage associated with a clubhouse celebration became an artifact of a particular Mets season.

Fans interested in preserving that memory can browse licensed New York Mets collectibles or broader Mets memorabilia, but there is no basis for assuming that a specific “OMG” sign replica is currently available. The Hall of Fame item is evidence of the moment’s significance, not proof of an ongoing merchandise line.

Is “OMG” still the Mets’ team song?

It is better described as the signature song of the 2024 Mets than as the club’s permanent official anthem. The Mets’ current walk-up-music listings do not establish “OMG” as a current player selection, and later coverage described the 2025 club as lacking the same “OMG” identity.

That does not diminish what happened in 2024. Many sports songs become inseparable from one roster, one run, and one emotional period without becoming permanent institutional traditions. “OMG” belonged especially to Iglesias’s arrival, the team’s turnaround, and the players who made the song part of their celebrations.

The real legacy of the song

“OMG” did not win the Mets’ games, and calling it the official team song would overstate its status. Its importance was more interesting than that. It gave the 2024 Mets a repeatable ritual at a time when the team was building belief.

The song’s path—from Iglesias’s walk-up music, to clubhouse celebrations, to a home-run sign, to a Citi Field performance, to postseason imagery, and finally to a Hall of Fame collection—shows how sports culture is made. A player brought in a song. Teammates adopted it. Fans learned the gesture. Cameras repeated it. A season gave it meaning.

That is why the official “OMG” video remains worth watching: not because it explains the Mets’ record, but because it shows the communal, optimistic spirit that made the song such a powerful soundtrack for their 2024 resurgence.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: José Iglesias’s “OMG” did not cause the Mets’ 2024 turnaround. It became the team’s shared celebration language—first in the clubhouse, then at Citi Field, during home runs and postseason wins—and an enduring artifact of that particular Mets season.
