The proposal was genuine: Jenn selected Devin, and the couple became engaged during filming. The surprise was not that she proposed. The surprise was that their engagement had ended before ABC broadcast the finale.

Why did ABC show the proposal after revealing the breakup?

The editorial distinction matters. Jenn really did choose Devin and really did propose to him during filming. The footage was not a hypothetical proposal, a preview, or a fake ending. It was a real moment from a relationship that had already ended by the time the live finale was produced and aired.
