Ariana Grande’s tattoos are an evolving personal archive, not a collection with one official master list. They include hometown and family references, tributes to Manchester and her dogs, friendship tattoos, music and tour milestones, Harry Potter and Pokémon designs, relationship-era ink, and newer Wicked-related artwork. Published counts vary from more than 40 publicly documented pieces to at least 61 counted in a 2023 retrospective, with additional tattoos reported in 2026.
The important distinction is between meanings Grande has confirmed herself and interpretations supplied by fans or media coverage. The documented explanation for a tattoo is included below; speculation is labeled as such.
Ariana Grande’s tattoos are best understood as an evolving personal archive rather than a fixed collection with one official meaning. Her publicly documented tattoos include hometown and family references, tributes to pets and friends, music and tour milestones, fictional favorites, matching relationship tattoos, and a growing group of Wicked-related designs. The exact total is unsettled: published retrospectives have counted more than 40 publicly documented tattoos, one 2023 review counted at least 61 individual pieces, and additional tattoos were reported in 2026.
That uncertainty matters. Tattoos fade, disappear beneath new artwork, are covered for acting roles, and are photographed inconsistently. Some meanings come directly from Grande’s own posts or interviews; others are based on timing, visual context, or fan and media interpretation. The guide below separates those categories instead of treating every theory as fact.
#1 Best Overall
How many tattoos does Ariana Grande have?
There is no authoritative public inventory of every tattoo Grande currently has. A careful description is that she has dozens of tattoos and more than 40 publicly documented pieces. A 2023 retrospective counted at least 61, but that figure should not be treated as a permanent total because pieces have since been added, altered, covered, or become difficult to see.
Most of Grande’s collection is concentrated on her fingers, hands, palms, arms, and legs. Small symbols can be particularly difficult to identify in photographs, while hand tattoos may look different depending on lighting, makeup, fading, and touch-ups. As a result, a list claiming to show every tattoo currently visible on her body is likely to become outdated quickly.
| Theme | Examples | How certain is the meaning? |
|---|---|---|
| Family and hometown | 561, Baby Doll, Bellissima | Strongly documented |
| Tribute and remembrance | Manchester bee; pet names | Strongly documented, with details that vary by tattoo |
| Friendship and matching designs | Court, the Truman Show quote, For Good | Confirmed or directly reported |
| Music and career | H2GKMO, SWT, 7 rings-related ink | Usually clear, although the Japanese translation episode needs qualification |
| Fiction and fandom | 9 3/4, Lumos, Eevee, Glinda | Reference is clear; deeper symbolism is not always stated |
| Relationship revisions | pete, reborn, always, 8418 and their cover-ups | Existence and changes are documented; emotional motives are often speculative |
The most clearly documented Ariana Grande tattoo meanings
The Manchester bee
The bee is one of Grande’s most significant tattoos. The worker bee is a longstanding symbol of Manchester, and it took on an additional meaning after the terrorist attack at the Manchester Arena on May 22, 2017, at the end of Grande’s concert. The attack killed 22 people.
Contemporary reports said Grande and members of her team received bee tattoos in tribute to Manchester and the victims. It is therefore accurate to describe the tattoo as a Manchester remembrance tattoo. It is not accurate to assume that every bee or insect design appearing elsewhere in Grande’s collection necessarily carries the same meaning.

The small 561 tattoo refers to the telephone area code for Boca Raton, Florida, where Grande grew up. Unlike many of the tiny symbols whose meanings have been debated online, this is one of the clearest biographical explanations associated with her collection.
Baby Doll and Bellissima
Baby Doll and Bellissima are family nicknames represented in Grande’s early body art. Baby Doll appears on a finger, while Bellissima is also documented among her early tattoos.
Retrospectives do not always agree about which relative used which nickname. The safe conclusion is that both are family terms of endearment, without assigning one specific nickname to one specific relative unless Grande’s own source is available.
The heart and Hebrew lettering
Grande’s early tattoos include a small heart and Hebrew letters commonly rendered as aleph-lamed-dalet. Tattoo guides have associated the Hebrew lettering with a Kabbalistic protective or guardian meaning.

The lettering and its commonly cited interpretation are documented, but the exact theological meaning is not consistently attributed to the singer herself.
H2GKMO
H2GKMO is an abbreviation of the phrase honest to God, knock me out, a saying Grande has used. The tattoo was part of a shared tattoo moment involving people close to her, including Pete Davidson, Courtney Chipolone, and members of her performance circle.

The original social context and the tattoo’s present appearance are separate questions. Some matching tattoos from that period were later changed or covered, so the acronym’s meaning should not be confused with a claim that every original matching design remains visible today.
The Japanese phrase meaning let’s sing
Grande displayed the Japanese phrase うたいましょう, translated as let’s sing, in late 2018 and later confirmed that translation. The phrase fits both her identity as a singer and her longstanding interest in Japanese language and culture.

This tattoo is different from the later Japanese-character episode connected to 7 rings: the two designs should not be treated as one incident.
Music, career, and pop-culture tattoos
The 7 rings tattoo that actually said barbecue grill
In January 2019, Grande attempted to reference her song 7 rings with Japanese kanji on her palm. The visible characters, 七輪, did not mean seven rings. They referred to a shichirin, a small charcoal grill or barbecue grill.
CBS News reported the correction using Grande’s Japanese social-media post and coverage from Japanese-language fans. Grande later added characters to the design, but the safest description of the original tattoo is that it was an intended 7 rings reference that initially translated as shichirin. It should not be described as a perfect Japanese translation of the song title.
The episode is memorable because it illustrates a broader problem with tattoo translations: a dictionary or online translation can produce a technically recognizable word while missing the intended phrase, grammar, cultural context, or natural usage. Grande’s mistake became part of the tattoo’s documented story, regardless of how the later version was interpreted.

SWT
SWT stands for the Sweetener World Tour. It is best understood as a career-era or tour milestone tattoo, marking the period associated with Grande’s Sweetener album and its world tour.
9 3/4 and Lumos
Grande’s 9 3/4 tattoo references Platform 93⁄4 from the Harry Potter series. Tattoo guides have also documented another Harry Potter-related design, Lumos, the spell used to produce light.
At least one version of the 9 3/4 design was later covered or substantially altered with botanical artwork. The reference is therefore part of Grande’s tattoo history, but photographs should not automatically be used to claim that the original design remains fully visible.
Eevee
Grande has a tattoo of Eevee, her favorite Pokémon, on the inside of her arm above her left elbow. Allure described it as a new Pokémon tattoo and noted that Grande had not given it a more elaborate public explanation beyond her affection for the character.
Rank #3
The most defensible interpretation is simple: it is a fandom tribute. There is no reliable basis for assigning a deeper personal symbolism to the tattoo.
Celestial imagery: clouds, moons, stars, suns, and planets
Grande has several celestial motifs, including a cloud, moon, stars, a sun, and planetary imagery. These designs are visually connected, but that does not mean every star or planet has an individually confirmed meaning.
The cloud was among the matching tattoos associated with Grande’s 2018 relationship with Pete Davidson. The moon-and-stars design has a separate family context: it was obtained on a day when Grande’s grandmother received her first tattoo, Ciccio, a nickname honoring Grande’s late grandfather. The timing is documented, but it would be too broad to assign the same family meaning to every celestial tattoo in the collection.
Friendship tattoos and matching designs
The Truman Show quote
Grande and Courtney Chipolone have matching tattoos based on the closing line of The Truman Show:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →In case I don’t see ya: good afternoon, good evening, and good night.
Grande reportedly wears her version upside down relative to Chipolone’s. This is a film reference and a friendship tattoo, not a lyric and not a reference to one of Grande’s songs.
Court and the Court-knee pun
Court is a playful reference to Grande’s friend Courtney Chipolone. The word is positioned near the knee, creating the pun Court-knee. It is one of the collection’s most straightforward friendship designs and one of its clearest examples of visual wordplay.
The Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson tattoos
Grande and Pete Davidson acquired multiple matching or relationship-related tattoos during their 2018 engagement. Reported examples include pete, reborn, the cloud, always, and other symbols.
Several of those tattoos were later covered, altered, or replaced. Reported examples include:
- An olive branch placed over or replacing reborn.
- Botanical artwork around or over always.
- A tattoo associated with 8418 being replaced by a Myron tattoo.
- Cover-up or substantial alteration of the 9 3/4 design.
8418 was reported as a tribute connected to Davidson’s late father, a New York City firefighter who died in the September 11 attacks. The later Myron tattoo connected that area of Grande’s tattoo history to one of her dogs.
Rank #4
The existence of these cover-ups is documented. The emotional reason for each change is not. It is tempting to interpret every botanical or replacement tattoo as a public statement about the breakup, but Allure specifically cautioned that such conclusions were speculative. A cover-up can be described visually and chronologically without claiming to know Grande’s private motive.
Pet tattoos and animal tributes
Grande’s dogs appear repeatedly in her tattoo history. Toulouse is tattooed across her knuckles, while Myron commemorates a dog she shared with Mac Miller.

The dog’s name and the replacement are the confirmed parts; broader claims about the precise emotional message of the redesign should be labeled interpretation.
Pet names are a recurring pattern in Grande’s collection because they function as highly personal identifiers. Unlike a tiny abstract symbol, a name usually has a clear referent even when the surrounding circumstances are not publicly explained.
Wicked-related tattoos: For Good, poppies, hearts, and Glinda
The matching For Good tattoos
In November 2025, Grande and Cynthia Erivo publicly shared matching palm tattoos reading For Good. The phrase refers to the signature song from Wicked and also reflects the friendship the two performers formed while playing Glinda and Elphaba.
NBC reported that both stars shared the tattoo images on Instagram. This is one of the most directly documented recent meanings in Grande’s collection because the design, its matching nature, and its connection to the film and the performers’ relationship were publicly presented together.

Poppy flowers and ankle hearts
Earlier reporting documented additional matching tattoos connected to Grande and Erivo’s Wicked experience, including poppy flowers and ankle hearts with initials. Grande’s E can refer to Elphaba or Erivo, while Erivo’s G can refer to Glinda or Grande.
The poppies have been associated with the poppy fields in The Wizard of Oz and Wicked, where the flowers are connected with sleep or enchantment. That symbolism is widely reported, but the exact timing and complete inventory of the matching tattoos have varied across coverage. Cynthia Erivo told The New York Times that she and Grande got many tattoos together during the production period, without creating a definitive public checklist of every piece.
The Glinda and Oz illustration
Grande also has a relatively large illustration of Glinda from the original Oz books on the back of her hand. Vanity Fair reported that Grande described waiting a long time before filling that hand and connected the imagery to L. Frank Baum’s Oz world.
This design is more specifically tied to her role as Glinda and to the wider Oz literary tradition than to a generic preference for fantasy imagery. It belongs to the same creative chapter as the Wicked matching tattoos, although not every Oz-related tattoo should automatically be assumed to have been designed as part of the same session.

Newer flowers and hand tattoos reported in 2026
In March 2026, Allure reported new vines and daisies across Grande’s fingers, thumb, and palm after Grande and tattoo artist Mira Mariah shared images. Grande commented that she loved her peaches flowers, linking the flowers to a personal or creative reference without fully explaining the symbolism.
Some secondary coverage has speculated about possible connections to Grande’s Eternal Sunshine character or to her dog Myron. Those connections remain unconfirmed in the available reporting. The established facts are the new floral artwork, the artist involved, the approximate reporting date, and Grande’s own phrase about peaches flowers.
What the tattoos say about Grande’s collection as a whole
Taken together, Grande’s tattoos fall into six recurring categories:
- Family and hometown identity: 561 and family nicknames preserve ties to Boca Raton and relatives.
- Remembrance: the Manchester bee and some tribute-related designs connect body art with public or private loss.
- Pets: names such as Toulouse and Myron turn beloved animals into permanent personal markers.
- Friendships and shared experiences: the Truman Show quotation, Court, and the matching Wicked tattoos emphasize relationships and creative partnerships.
- Music and career eras: H2GKMO, SWT, and the intended 7 rings reference connect tattoos with songs, tours, and periods in Grande’s career.
- Fiction and fandom: Harry Potter, Pokémon, Oz, and Wicked imagery show how books, films, characters, and stage roles enter the collection.
The final category is revision. Grande’s tattoos do not simply accumulate; some are redesigned as relationships, projects, and personal circumstances change. A botanical cover-up can become a new piece in its own right, while an old reference may remain visible only as part of the design’s history.

Several claims commonly repeated in tattoo roundups should be treated cautiously:
- Every celestial symbol has a separate message. Grande’s collection includes multiple moons, stars, clouds, suns, and planetary forms, but not every small element has a public explanation.
- Every cover-up was a statement about Pete Davidson. The timing and redesigned artwork are documented; Grande’s emotional motive has generally not been established.
- The final Japanese tattoo perfectly says 7 rings. The original 七輪 clearly referred to a shichirin grill. Later additions should not be translated more confidently than the available evidence allows.
- The 2026 flowers definitely represent a specific character or pet. Grande’s phrase peaches flowers is documented, but proposed links to Eternal Sunshine or Myron remain interpretations.
- A published count is a complete current total. No authoritative public inventory establishes which older tattoos remain fully visible as of August 2026.
For a reliable tattoo identification, three questions help: Did Grande explain the design herself? Is the timing or matching context documented by a reputable source? Or is the meaning being inferred from a photograph? Only the first two justify firm wording; the third should be labeled as reported, possible, or unconfirmed.
Reporting note: This guide distinguishes Grande’s public explanations from interpretations in tattoo retrospectives and entertainment reporting. The Japanese translation episode was reported by CBS News; later flowers were reported by Allure; the For Good tattoos were covered by NBC and other reporting; Erivo’s comments about matching tattoos appeared in The New York Times; and Grande’s Oz tattoo was discussed by Vanity Fair. Because the supplied reporting does not provide an exhaustive official inventory, dates and visibility are qualified where necessary.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many tattoos does Ariana Grande have?
Published counts vary because Grande’s tattoos fade, are covered, photographed inconsistently, and continue to change. The safest description is that she has dozens of tattoos, with more than 40 publicly documented pieces. A 2023 retrospective counted at least 61, but that is not a definitive current total.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsWhat does Ariana Grande’s Manchester bee tattoo mean?
The bee honors Manchester and the victims of the May 22, 2017 Manchester Arena attack. The bee is also a longstanding symbol of Manchester, so it represents both the city and remembrance.
What did Ariana Grande’s 7 rings tattoo actually say?
The original characters, 七輪, referred to a shichirin, a small charcoal grill or barbecue grill, rather than the phrase seven rings. Grande later added characters, but the original mistranslation remains part of the tattoo’s documented history.
Which Ariana Grande tattoos are connected to Wicked?
The clearest documented examples include the matching palm tattoo For Good, poppy flowers, ankle hearts with Grande and Erivo’s initials, and Grande’s Glinda illustration from the Oz books. Reports do not provide a complete public inventory of every matching Wicked tattoo.
Did Ariana Grande cover her Pete Davidson tattoos?
Some relationship-related tattoos were covered, altered, or replaced, including designs associated with Pete Davidson such as reborn, always, 8418, and 9 3/4. The changes are documented, but the personal reasons behind each cover-up have not been definitively established.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Ariana Grande’s tattoos document places, family nicknames, pets, friendships, music eras, fandoms, and major creative partnerships. The clearest meanings belong to pieces such as the Manchester bee, 561, SWT, the dog names, and the matching For Good design. The rest of the collection is best read with an important distinction: a visible image may be documented, while its deeper meaning may still be only an interpretation.
