Eric Bana as Kyle Turner
Eric Bana plays Kyle Turner, the central investigator in Untamed. Kyle works for the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch and knows Yosemite’s terrain, people and institutional culture unusually well. That knowledge makes him an effective investigator when a woman dies at El Capitan under circumstances that do not fit the initial assumption that she is an unidentified victim.
Kyle’s professional case is also a personal one. He is living with unresolved grief over the death of his son, Caleb, while his marriage to Jill has broken down. His familiarity with the park gives him authority, but his emotional history makes it difficult for him to treat the investigation as a detached assignment.

Bana is therefore playing more than a conventional detective protagonist. Kyle is a law-enforcement specialist whose judgment is repeatedly tested by grief, guilt and the secrets he has never fully confronted.
Sam Neill as Paul Souter
Sam Neill plays Paul Souter, Yosemite’s chief park ranger. Paul is one of the park’s senior figures, balancing administration, operations, law enforcement and family responsibilities.
He is also Kyle’s mentor and friend, with a relationship that carries the warmth and authority of a father-son bond. Paul’s standing in the Yosemite community initially places him among the people Kyle trusts. His role in the larger mystery becomes more complicated as the investigation reaches into the park’s past.
Rosemarie DeWitt as Jill Bodwin
Rosemarie DeWitt plays Jill Bodwin, Kyle’s former wife. Jill previously worked as a teacher and park counselor and has since remarried Scott Bodwin.
The death of Kyle and Jill’s son Caleb remains the defining trauma in their relationship. Their divorce did not remove the emotional connection between them; instead, it left both characters dealing with grief, anger and information that has not been shared openly. Jill is essential to the family storyline because the questions surrounding Caleb’s death are inseparable from the main investigation.

Lily Santiago as Naya Vasquez
Lily Santiago plays Naya Vasquez, a rookie Yosemite ranger and former Los Angeles police officer. Naya moved to the park with her young son, Gael, in an attempt to build a different life.
Her previous homicide experience gives her useful investigative instincts, even though she is new to Yosemite’s ranger culture and hierarchy. Naya becomes Kyle’s partner on the case and provides a perspective that is less rooted in the park’s old relationships. Her transition from city policing to a remote national-park environment is part of her character arc, rather than just background information.
Wilson Bethel as Shane Maguire
Wilson Bethel plays Shane Maguire, a former Army ranger who works as Yosemite’s wildlife management officer. Shane is a loner who prefers the wilderness and follows his own rules.
That independence makes him capable in the park but difficult for Kyle to read. Shane’s military background, practical knowledge and tense connection to Kyle place him near the center of the suspicion surrounding the case. He is also deeply connected to the backstory involving Kyle, Jill and Caleb.
Who plays Lucy Cook and Caleb Turner?
Ezra Franky plays Lucy Cook, the young woman initially identified as Jane Doe. Naya eventually discovers that the victim is Lucy, a girl who disappeared from Yosemite in 2012. Lucy’s identity turns the apparent stranger’s death into a case connected to the park’s older secrets.

The unidentified woman is eventually revealed to be Lucy Cook, who disappeared from Yosemite as a child in 2012. Her return to the park connects the present-day murder investigation to a much older history involving Paul Souter, Maggie Cook and Lucy’s family.
Paul Souter was Lucy’s biological father
DNA evidence establishes that Rory Cook was not Lucy’s biological father. The deeper revelation is that Paul Souter was Lucy’s biological father. After Lucy returned to Yosemite, she began blackmailing Paul. He confronted her, and her death occurred accidentally during that confrontation.
This means Shane Maguire was not Lucy’s killer, despite the suspicion surrounding him and his connection to the case. Paul’s position as a trusted senior figure makes the revelation especially damaging: the mentor Kyle relies on has been concealing a secret at the center of the investigation.

How Jill, Shane and Caleb’s death are connected
Jill secretly hired Shane to kill Sean Sanderson after learning that Sanderson had killed Caleb. Jill’s concealed action is one of the reasons her marriage to Kyle collapsed. The secret links the family tragedy to the larger investigation and explains why Shane is so important to the Kyle-Jill-Caleb storyline.
The result is a chain of separate but overlapping crimes and secrets: Lucy’s death is tied to Paul, while Caleb’s death and the response to it are tied to Sean, Jill and Shane. The cases converge because Yosemite’s close-knit community has allowed the past to remain hidden rather than resolved.
