Robert Wadlos is known as the Alton Giant, or the Giant of Illinois. He is still the tallest person in history, measuring at 8 feet 11.1 inches in height (2.72m).
He was born in Alton, Illinois, a suburb of St. Louis. He was last measured on 27 June 1940, less than a month before his eventual death. His life was tragically cut short due to infection.
