Lost Gods of Easter Island is a BBC documentary written and presented by David Attenborough. It explores the history of civilization in the remote islands of Passover. Attenborough embarks on a personal quest to discover the history of the strange figure of a wood carving became an auction room in New York during the 1980s.

The auction catalog notes that the carving was on Easter Island and the auctioneers said that the sculpture had become a junk-shop in Pennsylvania. He knew that the “grotesque head, coupled with an extremely long, thin body like a stick” was more important than the auctioneers believed it and had that presence and power purchase.

An investigation was initiated to trace the origin of the artifact – an investigation that spans the world and takes him on trips to Russia, Australia, England, the Pacific, a beach in Tahiti and finally to one of the most remote places the earth, and 15 years later, in a personal detective story combines art, anthropology, and traces the history of the origin of the stature and in doing so, tells the story of a forgotten civilization and a people who lived in one of the most remote places on Earth.
