Red Onion Supermax Prison

Red Onion State Prison is the place where convicts are sent when they are difficult to manage and present disciplinary challenges. It is often viewed as the “cream of the crop” of prisons you cannot escape or present difficulty.

The supermax state prison is located in Wise Country, Virginia, near Pound. It was opened by the Virginia Department of Corrections. There are about 800 inmates on a regular basis there.

Opened in 1998 as a Super-Max prison, convicts in the facility are holed up alone for 23 hours a day. And to make matters worse, usually, convicts are sent there to serve 100 or 1000 years without a parole.

And it is not the physical challenge that ruins you. It is the mental, being holed up alone, and knowing there is no way to leave the prison one day.
