We talk about it all the time. The theatre is part of our social life, of our society. Through the years, the theatre has strived to be a critic of society. So many authors have used drama and the theatre to present their view on society, politics, democracy, and so on.

And it all derives from Ancient Greece. It was back in Ancient Greece that the theatre was born. In Ancient Greece, particularly in Athens, theatre was a big part of the social life and democracy.

This documentary looks to explore that deep connection between Athens the state, and Athenian democracy. We all need to thank the people of Athens for their perseverance in making the theatre central part of democracy.

And the crew of BBC documentaries has helped us understand what happened in Athens thousands of years ago.
