This great lecture summarizes scientific research that explains why humans have an inclination to create divinity.

It is not a defense of atheism, but rather shows what science says about the various modules & capabilities that humans have developed over thousands of years that lend themselves to the creation & acceptance of religious explanations.

Although the presenter made clear that he is not a man of faith, the conference is not an attack on the church as much as an explanation for why people might believe. Very current and a good intro for anyone who wants to learn more about this topic.

  1. Jay Lew says:

I Believe science could create life in a test tube but there is still an intelligence behind that creation. I agree there is a possibility that god doesn’t exist but i would hope you would agree there is a possibility of a creator. I will never just say god did it as a scientist because that is not science that is just foolish. As a scientist i will look for a way that life could arise without any intervention of intelligence I just want the evidence.

  2. Jay Lew says:

I am not your average christian I don’t take the bible literally for it was written by a man. i don’t see my self as religious because i am not dictated to by a dictator I just love The words Jesus spoke so i live my life in a loving manner and care for people as he did. When it comes to science i am an atheist because the supernatural does not belong in the scientific method just as you stated.

  3. Jay Lew says:

Hey love all the things you are presenting here as evidence for an intelligence behind life on earth. At my school everyone is atheist I live in Washington state or the most non religious state in America, I do have many arguments but there is no point in arguing with them i am obtaining a degree in biochemistry and would love as much information on a reason to believe in an intelligent creator. my email is [email protected] thank you

  4. cynic252 says:

go and read the book that the einstein quote is from..you may understand it then! Just because you are liberal the belief system you support is not. you misunderstand the mutilated genitalia…that is what religions do to men and women. Come on open your mind you are a young man stop being dictated to by a dictator. The bible is the word of god you cant pick and choose and interpretation resulted in such things as the catholic and protestant strifes.

  5. cynic252 says:

cont..One physical quantity, called entropy, provides a measure of the ‘orderdness’ of a physical system, including the universe as a whole. The entropy of the universe is increasing in time — i.e. the universe is evolving to a state of higher disorder (only on average — locally, in our bodies for instance, the increase in entropy is vigorously resisted by our consumption of energy.)

  6. cynic252 says:

an agnostic is someone who wants to fill the blanks in our knowledge with faith in something where we have no evidence…thats sad. you need to have a more rigorously defined notion of order and chaos to be able to address this question empirically. What specific features of the universe cause one to consider it as ordered/chaotic? Of course, suggesting that such order/chaos arises supernaturally is not an empirical statement and is not scientific.

  7. cynic252 says:

You are a scientist for petes sake. I have no faiths. There is much science doesnt know but that doesnt give me the right to make things up to fill the blanks. We may never know exactly how life started ( I think we will) but I will not create an imaginary creator to fill that gap. It doesnt matter how small a chance it is. You dont have to believe anything but dont make up things…science is all about discovering the world we live in. You sound scared and confused.

  8. cynic252 says:

You lose the freedom from an evil baby killing dictator who threatens you with hell if you dont believe in him. This frees your mind to look at the reality as it is. I know a lot about many religiions but the meaning of each sentence in the bible are many. Just look at the reason why protestants and catholics deivided ! I gain a lot by seeing this life as a wonderful thing and if he does exist he has alot of explaining to do before I will enter heaven. I will not be dictated to by a tyrant.

  9. JCviggen1 says:

“In my mind” Well I believe you’re right there. It could be that God created Evolution. It’s just that there is zero evidence for it, it’s on the same level of probability as saying we were created by the sun-god Ra. Endless assertions can be made, but to determine reality we look at evidence not assertions. And it’s not the atheists who have to prove something does not exist. Atheism simply means there’s no reliable evidence of any kind to believe, should evidence come forth it will be examined.

  10. Mogley52 says:

WAS IT REALLY A DINO-BIRD? Read this article published in The Mercury newspaper of Pennsylvania. It thoroughly exposes faulty evolutionary thinking and analysis of fossils used to support dinosaur to bird evolution. Also read, FEATHERS MISSING FROM ‘FEATHERED DINOSAUR’ DISPLAY by biologist and creationist Brian Thomas. What some interpret as feathers may have been nothing more than “artifacts of the fossilization process, or partly decayed skin fibers.”

  11. Mogley52 says:

HOW DID MY DNA MAKE ME? When you divide a cake, the parts are smaller than the original cake and the cake never gets bigger. When we were a cell and that cell divided, the new cells were the same size as the original cell and we got bigger. New material had to come from somewhere. That new material came from food. The sequence in our DNA directed our mother’s food we received in the womb to become new cells forming all the tissues and organs of our body. Read my article: HOW DID MY DNA MAKE ME?

  12. Mogley52 says:

SCIENCE SHOWS THE UNIVERSE couldn’t sustain itself eternally because of entropy (energy decay, even in an open system). Einstein confirmed that space, matter, time had a beginning! That beginning had to be supernatural because natural laws have no ability to bring the universe into existence from nothing. The supernatural cannot be proved by science but science points to a supernatural intelligence for the origin and order of the universe ~ HOW FORENSIC SCIENCE REFUTES ATHEISM (Article)

  13. Mogley52 says:

GENETIC AND BIOLOGICAL SIMILARITIES are better explained due to a common Designer Who designed similar functions for similar purposes in the various forms of life. Genetic information, like other forms of information, cannot happen by chance, so this is the best explanation.

  14. Mogley52 says:

NATURAL SELECTION DOESN’T PRODUCE ANYTHING. It can only “select” from what is produced. Natural selection can only “select” from variations that are genetically possible and which have survival value. If a biological variation occurs that helps a species survive (i.e. change in skin color, etc.), that survival is called being “selected.” That’s all that natural selection is. There’s no conscious selection by nature. It’s a passive process. Nothing more!

  15. Mogley52 says:

THE SCIENCE SUPPORTING CREATION (Google this title to access the site). The site presents a collage of evidences from science supporting creation and refuting arguments by evolutionists (i.e. “flaws” in design of human eye, “Junk DNA,” dinosaur to bird evolution, dinosaur feathers, argument from vestigial or useless structures, embryonic recapitulation, age of the earth, fossils, origin of life, etc.).

  16. cynic252 says:

the bible is the word of god isnt it so how can you interpret it. Remember interpretations have led to much unrest in christian circles i.e. protestant and catholic. You cannot suspend the scienctific method to have an imaginary friend that relies on faith. you misunderstood my mutilated genitalia, its religions that do it to people. You can believe what you want just dont be part of religion which hates gays etc.You are confused with your logic read more widely and embrace atheism

  17. Jay Lew says:

to answer your question which god do you put your faith in, all I say is another force greater than our own something of intelligence, i am more agnostic than theist. I am an evolutionist but i hold a belief that life could not arise by pure randomness there has to be an initiating factor. why is there a sense of order in life on earth and its ecosystems but we live in a chaotic universe? i am open for evidence show me what you got

  18. Jay Lew says:

You must hold the faith that science has the answer for the start of life without any miracle occurring and the completion of the first replicating cell came about by random process. I would love to see your probability factors show me the mathematics. Why should i believe that life could arise on a lifeless planet by pure chance under random conditions. show me some evidence of how genetic information is passed down without the mechanisms to transcribe, translate and process the information.

  19. Jay Lew says:

For you I don’t think you know much about religion just what people do in those religions that don’t understand the meaning of the passages because of their lack of education. For my imaginary friend I say to you if die and im wrong what do I lose, but if your wrong and god does exist you lose a hell of a lot.

  20. Jay Lew says:

That’s great I am currently attaining my degree in biochemistry but I am only 20. Yes i admit I am a christian but I do not take the Bible literally like most people. “Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind” another great Einstein quote I think I will follow. I do not hate Gays i have Many gay friends, i believe in contraception and for mutilated genitalia people should be able to do whatever they want.
