The personal computer or home computer rose in the beginning of the 1970s with the Altair 8800, Apple II and VisiCalc.

This documentary, divided into three parts, records this rise and tracks its continuation through the IBM PC and Apple Macintosh revolution through the 1980s and the mid 1990s at the beginning of the Dot-com boom. Interviews of legends like Apple’s Steve Jobs and Microsoft’s Bill Gates are also included in the film.

This series first premiered in June 1996 on PBS and was released in VHS format soon after being broadcasted but is now out of print, hence highly prized and extremely difficult to find. A release on DVD by Ambrose Video in 2002 was noted by product reviewers on Amazon.com and elsewhere to have numerous small but quite important segments expunged from the program as originally aired for unidentified reasons.
