With the help of a scientist who wields a hammer, Jennifer Aniston and general anesthesia, Professor Marcus du Sautoy is in search of answers to one of the greatest mysteries of science: how do we know who we are?
While the thoughts that make us feel like we know ourselves are easy to use, which are very difficult to explain. Therefore, in order to find out where they come from, Marcus is subjected to a series of survey experiments.

@Harakashi – you raise a very good point. There are more nuerons in the gut than in the brain, significantly so. In the very least, there is undeniably a connection btwn the brain & the gut, just as one example.
In the last experiment, why in the hell didn’t Marcus ask about, or at least let John speak to, WHAT is behind/before the yellow or the blue “being activated”, even if it is purely (I assume) theoretical??? THAT is THE most fascinating implication! Early it’s not even just 6 seconds; there’s actually something happening BEFORE that.

Consciousness could be in the gut or heart and the brain is just a tool like a computer is a tool. Maybe the 6 seconds is the required time for the gut to give instructions to the brain.

What about recorded out of body expirences without drug , visual or physical stimulant induced by making the patent brain, “brain dead” in the area responsible for memory (aswell as other areas) during surgery on a brain tumor? NDE/OBE are real and scientifically dabated phenomenon. Facts is that they can’t simply be explained as a hallucination unless u throw out scientific method. Try convincing someone who’s had a NDE that its anything otner than an OBE.
well said. Why else would a veterinarians need to put an animal under anesthesia if it wasnt conscious? My dog is very self aware.
