‘The Samurai’ is the definitive study of some of world’s most famous fighters from the heyday of the Heian Period (794-1185) to the inevitable decline that followed the opening of Japan in 1853.

This film explores the extraordinary legacy of martial artistry, ceremony, self-discipline and tenacity in battle of the knights of medieval Japan, an elite warrior class that held the reins of power and the fascination of the people for more than 700 years.

They were the masters of sword and bow, were driven by an unforgiving code of ethics, and they proved ferocious in combat. They beat back foreign invaders and fought each other for land, status, honor and glory.

Modern-day samurai explain the ways of life in the Bushido, while scholars detail the pivotal events in their centuries-long history.

are you really saying that atomic bomb saved lives??!!what’s wrong with you?is that what they teach you in schools in america?

  2. do you know what a genocide is, it is the systematic mass murdering of a people or peoples due to their ethnic background, by definition droping the bomb isnt a genocide. and by the way it saved more japanese lives than it took, the japanese military was arming the entire counry to repel the american invasion and 99 percent of the population would have died including woomen and children, this wouldnt be the american soldiers fault because the japanese defenders were trained to attack first

  3. axiumvids says:

  7. glamedrehl says:

so? that does not justify what the japanese did to the chinese. i was just trying to point out that they weren’t all semisacred warriors

  8. marko2147 says:

lets not forget the atomic bomb that US detonated and killed 200000 civilians…genocide that no one answered for

  9. True. Japan has a bloody oppressive past.

  10. glamedrehl says:

let’s not forget what the japanese did to the chinese and the koreans and the US soldiers captured on the philiphines. sacred warrior spirit and honour or not they happily killed thens of thousands of people who we’re happen to live on land they wanted

  11. Marescaman says:

I think skill is what made them.

  12. EdwinMerit says:

Ah, History Channel…. when did you turn from THIS to Aliens and Apocalyptic nonsense?Truly is a shame…

  13. jacob3178259 says:

its not because their skill necessarily but their equpiment. the katana is pretty much the best sword ever made and their armor is very efficient it allows for alot of protection but also alot of mobility. obviously knights armor is alot stronger but its hard to move around in. a knights claymore is pretty much only reliable for stabbing, you have to be a fucking beast to lop someones head off with it, but a katana can slice AND stab its sharpness also makes it easy to dismember people

  14. This is the history channel i remember, where people who watched actually became more educated. I agree with nickkraw1 about the Hill Billy Channel.

  15. CourtWolfe07 says:

Most of the stuff that used to be on History Channel is now on H2. History Channel now is just pretty much all about reality tv. It’s a shame.

  16. nickkraw1 says:

It should be called Hill Billy Channel now…

  17. PedoPedrin says:
