im 14 and tried contin one time. i took 3 40 mgs pills about 2 months ago and my whole body went numb. the feeling was like percocet, just stronger and didnt give me a naseua feeling. i felt like i was floating on air, and i could see why people abuse this drug. it took me 2 days to get over cravings, i would be thinking about how much i wanted one but i fought it. this is definitely a dangerous pill when abused and should be taken off the market..

@MrScolopendra Oxycontin doesn’t affect me either and I have heard the same thing from others as well. The methadone does act as an agnostic and blocks it’s effect but I’ve tried it while off methadone and it didn’t work then either. It seems that for some people it just doesn’t work and for others it works really well. I don’t know why that is.

@MrMedicinebox i get all my carry’s..on wed’s so today i took my 50ml drink at the clinic and drank another 70 mls.and im barely nodding but il be goo tomorrow il only drink 20ml and il be good till Saturday.Im afraid that if i get off of the methadone that i will get back to not only opiates but other drugs..this here at least keeps me out of trouble.But i live in Canada and i HATE where i live and i would LOVE to move away from here so i almost have no choice to”ween” myself off

I’m really surprised to hear that Chris. Firstly because in the UK, largely as a result of the US experience, oxycodone is supposed to be restricted for prescription for terminal cancer patients only.
What were you prescribed it for, and really, did you truly need to be told that if you take any opiate for an extended period, then physical dependency will always occur, and you may well become an addict, [the two are not the same - addiction involves craving and abuse of the medication, dependency is an inevitable side effect]?
As for detox, the doctor who prescribes them for you should handle it for you, if you no longer need them, [as in your pain has healed]. If, on the other hand, you were taking them to get high, then the procedure is no different than if you were on heroin. You get your doctor or you self-refer you to your local drug services, they will assess you, probably transfer you to methadone, reduce your dose, and then send you to a detox/rehab when you are ready.
Lauren we DO have this problem in this country (the UK), I myself am on a dose of 120mg Oxycontin per day aswell as 25mg Oxynorm (instant release OC). After 2 years of living with this dependence, and never having been told anything about the possibility (or definality) of addiction, I’ve found that getting help to detox from Oxycontin is actually harder than if you are addicted to heroin or crack cocaine, since the funding for Oxycontin detox should come from the NHS there’s alot of red tape, I’ve been waiting for 6 months and I’m still no closer to getting a place at a facility anywhere anytime soon.
