I’m really surprised to hear that Chris. Firstly because in the UK, largely as a result of the US experience, oxycodone is supposed to be restricted for prescription for terminal cancer patients only.
What were you prescribed it for, and really, did you truly need to be told that if you take any opiate for an extended period, then physical dependency will always occur, and you may well become an addict, [the two are not the same - addiction involves craving and abuse of the medication, dependency is an inevitable side effect]?
As for detox, the doctor who prescribes them for you should handle it for you, if you no longer need them, [as in your pain has healed]. If, on the other hand, you were taking them to get high, then the procedure is no different than if you were on heroin. You get your doctor or you self-refer you to your local drug services, they will assess you, probably transfer you to methadone, reduce your dose, and then send you to a detox/rehab when you are ready.
Lauren we DO have this problem in this country (the UK), I myself am on a dose of 120mg Oxycontin per day aswell as 25mg Oxynorm (instant release OC). After 2 years of living with this dependence, and never having been told anything about the possibility (or definality) of addiction, I’ve found that getting help to detox from Oxycontin is actually harder than if you are addicted to heroin or crack cocaine, since the funding for Oxycontin detox should come from the NHS there’s alot of red tape, I’ve been waiting for 6 months and I’m still no closer to getting a place at a facility anywhere anytime soon.
No….we just have epidemic levels of addiction to brown Afghani heroin instead.
Did the Taliban REALLY think they would get away with closing down a $300 billion a year business when the eradicated 90% of Afghanistan’s poppy fields in 2000? Bush Cheney & Rumsfeld soon made sure business was booming again, [no pun intended]

i was hookt on this crap for 7 years…i shot 13 40mg oxys in one day and i wanted more, it grabs you by the nuts.
im now on methadone and i havent seen a syringe go in my arm since..3 years clean yay!!!
